None of you have heard anything about A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder transferring to the West End have you? It looks really good!

usernamesandgingerbreads · 28/12/2015 22:33

Aww one of my loveliest friends is in Guys and Dolls

SouthWestmom · 29/12/2015 00:23

Oooh yes, please would love that.

Katymac · 29/12/2015 16:59

We're off to see Bernadette Peters in June - DD & I are so excited!

Ooh great thread! Dds both very interested in MT, in the end DD1 decided to go the uni route ( maybe followed by postgrad drama school) in her first term she's done 4 productions so not too shabby. DD2 still pondering.
We're off on xmas treat to see In the Heights tonight and Miss Saigon tomorrow, so all very excited!

NewLife4Me · 29/12/2015 18:47

Can I join in even though more classical theatre.

Please? Sondheim, The Secret Garden etc are still modern theatre but just a bit heavier than the usual.
I love listening to your chat about dance, singing, acting and think whichever genre or discipline you are into there are similarities between them all.

Now a question I've needed answered for ages if anyone can help.

I have seen 2 children in a line up of sondheim music, think it was a tribute for his 80th B'day.
I'm sure one young woman was singing I know things now from ITTW, but the other was clearly a child so definitely not singing Joannah from Sweeney Todd.
Any suggestions please? DD loves Sondheim so always on the look out.

SouthWestmom · 29/12/2015 19:22

I agree about the similarities and any one going ' on stage, set' probably needs to be capable in most types of performance, at least enough to be chorus - I'm thinking tuition stages here not performance. Although ds loves acting, he still does MT .
I saw Peter pan goes wrong and was amazed at the voices when they burst into song! Wasn't expecting that!

Katymac · 29/12/2015 19:26

Oh me too & I'm happy for any choir/musicians/actors/dancers/performers/band members to join in plus backstage peeps too

The more the merrier & we can all get together & put on a show!! Wink

That would be amazing! A mumsnet musical! Can it be Annie?ds does a wicked miss hannigan 😀

Katymac · 29/12/2015 19:36

On youtube there is an 80th & an 85th birthday - do you know which?

OP posts:
Katymac · 29/12/2015 19:38

I reckon they should all just play their favourite role (choosing one should cause enough angst for DD) & just have a series of scenes

Katy

I'm sure it was 80 but will check.
I only saw the younger girl in the line up at the end but the older one (still a young woman) had done I know things now.
She seemed too young for Cinderella, Joannah, or LRRH.
I wondered if there was a childs part in any sondheim shows or if he had written any out of show songs for children.

balletgirlmum · 29/12/2015 22:13

There is a child in Sunday in the Park with George but I don't think she sings.

NewLife4Me · 29/12/2015 22:35

I think it must have been the choir or something.
It was the 2010 B'day party and they were children dressed in black.
They were on at the end after the presenter said how many people had come down/up town to join the celebrations.
You didn't see them in the show.
Maybe they weren't specific children's parts but the kids were singing as part of a choir or something.

cardibach · 30/12/2015 10:27

This is great katymac. I'm very jealous about Bernadette Peters. DD and I also loved In The Heights. We're going to NYC in the summer and already obsessing about which show(s) to see. Would love Hamilton, but it's sold out all summer unless we can pick up last minute returns or something.

RosyMac · 30/12/2015 21:48

I'd love to see Hamilton, have been listening to the soundtrack as well as In the Heights! Love them both!! Can't wait for it to hit west end...

EvilTwins · 30/12/2015 21:54

Hello! Can I join in? Total MT nerd, though the kids I'm trying to help get in are kids I teach not kids I gave birth to Grin

cathyandclaire · 31/12/2015 07:20

There's a daughter ( young teen I think) in A Little Night Music, can't remember if she has a song.

Katymac · 31/12/2015 18:45

Hi Evil!!

I saw the youngster but tbh I have no idea (enjoyed watching the concert tho')

I've just been offered a paid chaperoning job for a major tour & it's the one week I'm on holiday - typical!

Katymac · 31/12/2015 20:08

Oh no BGM! Bloody typical..... I wonder if they would like me (never chaperoned before Wink

You have to be licensed (not sure how long it takes to get one these days)

Katymac · 31/12/2015 22:17

Sounds exciting mind you I may be no good with 'other people's children'

OP posts:
EvilTwins · 01/01/2016 16:27

Getting a licence allegedly takes up to 6 weeks but when I needed one ASAP so that kids I teach could be in the touring production of An Inspector Calls they did it on the spot.
