OK, I'm going through some really rough times, and have had a spectacularly rotten day today. I need some musical distractions.

i love Iron Maiden, Nickelback, Metallica, Stone Sour, Foo Fighters, etc.

Name me some songs that will cheer me up/let me sing my rage out/make me smile, please.

For your troubles, I shall share

acsec My DDs get the gig ticket money these days. Swine of it is, they go to stuff I'd like to see but it would be too awful if I was there and I want them to enjoy gigs as much as I did, so I don't cramp their style

DH isn't really about the RAWK, he's more of a Bob Dylan fan...

ElizabethBathory · 27/09/2013 21:19

And this!! Love this thread Grin

Boosterseat · 27/09/2013 21:20

Acsec -DH took me for my birthday to see Less than Jake , Reel Big Fish and Flogging Molly, it was brilliant and we were so knackered afterwards from dancing like lunatics.

flaggybannel · 27/09/2013 21:21

SLASH ! !

Sorry , no idea what came over me there . as you were.

FryOneFatManic · 27/09/2013 21:25

Rammstein are great, I'm listening to Waidmanns heil right now.

In the car currently I have:

Metallica (at the request of my 9 yr old DS)
Linkin Park (ditto)
Dio
Black Sabbath

And the compilation freebie off the latest Metal Hammer (Trivium, Alter Bridge, Korn, etc, awesome stuff)

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 27/09/2013 21:27

Korn - make me bad
Slipknot - people = shit
Disturbed - stupify

FryOneFatManic · 27/09/2013 21:27

Actually, one of the best tracks I know is Iron Maiden "The Trooper". A real kicker of a riff there. Grin

Boosterseat · 27/09/2013 21:28

An exs best friends band were playing with them at a gig in Leeds and he used to drive equipment around for his mates band so he took me with him and I met him when they were all packing up later on.

He was just a bit of a twat really but so are a lot of 17 year olds in bands.

I cant even remember the name of exs mates band, I just thought they were shite.

acsec · 27/09/2013 21:28

DSS has no musical identity yet, so no gigs for him.
DH doesn't like my music so I'm going with a friend. I'm digging out my skanking jeans from my DMum's loft and I'm going to love every minute!

I used to gig all the time, but I don't really have anyone to go with :( My big bro used to get me a ticket when he was seeing someone good, but he's got his hands full with 3 DCs under 2 now.

SignoraStronza · 27/09/2013 21:31

Am loving Carcass at the moment - their new album/line up is awesome. Sadly will miss them at Damnation festival, but off to see them with Hell and Amon Amarth shortly afterwards.

If you have Internet radio, try Braingel. Always playing some interesting stuff.

DropYourSword · 27/09/2013 21:32

Local band of mine - ten cent toy - have a look at them, they are amazing

hawkeye21 · 27/09/2013 21:59

I'm suddenly mourning the fact that I can no longer attend gigs. Also, so many of my CDs can no longer be played as I don't want DD to pick up the language (looking at you Ginger).

PosyNarker · 27/09/2013 22:02

I am out of touch old school.

Early Green Day always makes me smile. It definitely lacks a certain amount of political correctness but Basket Case is a fab album & the song itself. Longview is a song about wanking - my teenage self and therefore my 30-something self with memories finds it hilarious ymmv.

Guns & Roses have some fantastic shouty songs. Welcome to the Jungle is ace. I love Don't Cry as a ballad. Some of the rest depend on your tolerance for sexist lyrics tbh, because they have some great tunes with some wtf lyrics.)

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun. Utterly weird, fantastic anthemic track and truly odd 90s video. I love it.

Buddy Holly by Weezer. The most offensively cheerful indie rock track ever?

Do you like Suede? There are some great tracks on Dog Man Star. It's more indie, but they are on the rocky side and there are some anthemic choruses plus a fair bit of (tuneful) indie whining.

PosyNarker · 27/09/2013 22:11

Also can I just take an off topic moment to mourn the gorgeousness that was Axl Rose. Was motivated by this thread to go on You Tube for stuff I have on CD. How did he age so badly?!?

ladyjadie · 27/09/2013 22:16

Limp Bizkit- Boiler
My Chem- Honey..
Every Time I Die for more upbeatiness

So many more that escape my addled memory Sad

mewkins · 27/09/2013 22:29

Posy, I was just watching Soundgarden on youtube -what were they thinking?!

I am not metal enough for this discussion but have enjoyed a bit of Pearl Jam and At the Drive-in courtesy of this thread so thanks Grin

BendyBusBuggy · 27/09/2013 22:52

Posy, Soundgarden made me think of this

Alice in chains: Rooster
