We're delighted to end 2013 by welcoming Golden Globe winner Idris Elba to Mumsnet HQ on Thursday 19th December between 1.00 and 2.00pm to answer your questions.

Idris is best known for his portrayal of Russell 'Stringer' Bell in The Wire and later as Detective John Luther in BBC One's Luther. On January 3rd Idris is back on the big screen playing Nelson Mandela in the highly anticipated MANDELA LONG WALK TO FREEDOM for which he is has recently been nominated as ‘Best Actor’ for his portrayal of Mandela at the 2014 Golden Globes.

MANDELA was made with the full support and endorsement of Mr Mandela, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Mr Mandela entrusted his life story to South African producer Anant Singh in the face of fierce competition from the major international studios. Singh spent 16 years developing the film, teaming up with David Thompson and finally commencing principal photography of this UK-South African coproduction in May 2012.

Come and chat to Idris on Thursday at 1.00pm and to find out more about the new film and his other work. If you're unable to join us please post a question in advance to this thread.

ooh yes I'll be working on Thursday, Idris, so maybe do a thread in Dadsnet, and drop me a PM and we can catch up later.
Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/12/2013 08:27

Ok I have a serious question.

Idris, if you had to snog one of them, who would you choose. Chris Hemsworth or Tom Hiddleston?

RubyRR · 18/12/2013 08:34

Does emergency leave allow for time off for webchats?

itsblackoveryonderhill · 18/12/2013 08:46

Idris, I would like to ask you a question...

How surreal did it make you feel that on the UK premiere of Long Walk to Freedom, the announcement came that Nelson Mandela had passed away? Did it make you feel, 'well that is my lifes' work of portraying a true character'?

oh and can you come round my house to teach my DH the suaveness and 'the look' that you're doing in the pic that MNHQ have put up, my DH wouldn't know what has hit him [me] if he learnt such skills

MikeChristmasTreeIsLit · 18/12/2013 08:56

Oh dear. I think I have a cold coming (cough cough)

Looks like I may have to take a day off tomorrow.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 18/12/2013 09:09

We are badly disgracing ourselves. Truly.

Someone must have a serious question for the man!

JustineMumsnet · 18/12/2013 09:24

Lots of great questions here but, ahem, there are a few comments here which transgress the line we feel and which we are going to delete. Fully understand the excitement but we do need to keep webchats polite and on the rails as per the guidelines.

Sorry to be spoilsports - feel free to repost your question in slightly less x-rated fashion if you've been zapped (but only one question each, remember).

Amrapaali · 18/12/2013 09:24

Idris, you grew up in east London. Do you often go back and revisit your childhood haunts? Do you think East ham or Hackney has changed for the better, especially after the Olympics? All I can see is a wealth gap widening...

Oh and ignore the hormonal pantings over the last two pages. We are a good bunch, honest we are.... now if I could just reach out and stroke that french beard

Xmas Grin
Amrapaali · 18/12/2013 09:27

Yes, behave the lot of you!! Xmas Angry

We don't want to be in the news again for all the wrong reasons. Any publicity is good publicity, but even so.... Xmas Grin

SconeForAStroll · 18/12/2013 09:33

I can't believe GetOrf hasn't found this thread yet!

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 18/12/2013 09:44

(any one else having a bit of smirk at the mental image of the queue for the bathroom mirror at about 12.30 at MNHQ tomorrow?)

Theonlyoneiknow · 18/12/2013 09:44

GUTTED!!! I have a Christmas lunch. Shall I sacrifice a four course (free) lunch for Idris Grin

Mignonette · 18/12/2013 09:45

Hi there-

What film and book are you looking forward to watching/reading?
Who was your favourite actor growing up- if you had one?

Loving the work and I'm keeping it clean Wink.

Theonlyoneiknow · 18/12/2013 09:46

Are you doing any DJ gigs in the near future?

What is your favourite track, guaranteed to get your arms in the air and on the dancefloor?

MikeChristmasTreeIsLit · 18/12/2013 09:47

Delete one of the goos questions so I can ask it.

Since you deleted my original one ill do a clean version.

MikeChristmasTreeIsLit · 18/12/2013 09:48

Do you think Stringer Bell respected McNulty?
Please could you marry me? The current Mr Disgrace has kindly offered to give me away

dottyaboutstripes · 18/12/2013 11:08

Hi Idris, don't suppose you have any Welsh in you and that's where your name's from? We'd be glad to adopt you as our own (and yes, of course I speak for the whole Welsh nation Grin)

ClausIsTrulyReal · 18/12/2013 11:20

I'll bet you get fed up with being asked stuff.

Would you like to ask us something, instead?

[thoughtful]

holstenlips · 18/12/2013 11:50

Hi Idris . Do you work out? :-D

Crumblemum · 18/12/2013 12:19

I heard a rumour that you might be the first black James Bond. Sounds like a good idea to me (although my favourite James Bond was Roger Moore, so I might not be the best judge), what would you say if offered the part?

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 18/12/2013 12:35

As you can see from the reaction on here to your presence at MN Towers you tend to get us ladies (and some men no doubt) a little hot under the collar - MN loves you Idris!

My question is: There are of course many stories in the press about you becoming a dad again, you already have a daughter, what have you found the hardest thing about being a parent?
