We're delighted to end 2013 by welcoming Golden Globe winner Idris Elba to Mumsnet HQ on Thursday 19th December between 1.00 and 2.00pm to answer your questions.

Idris is best known for his portrayal of Russell 'Stringer' Bell in The Wire and later as Detective John Luther in BBC One's Luther. On January 3rd Idris is back on the big screen playing Nelson Mandela in the highly anticipated MANDELA LONG WALK TO FREEDOM for which he is has recently been nominated as ‘Best Actor’ for his portrayal of Mandela at the 2014 Golden Globes.

MANDELA was made with the full support and endorsement of Mr Mandela, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Mr Mandela entrusted his life story to South African producer Anant Singh in the face of fierce competition from the major international studios. Singh spent 16 years developing the film, teaming up with David Thompson and finally commencing principal photography of this UK-South African coproduction in May 2012.

Come and chat to Idris on Thursday at 1.00pm and to find out more about the new film and his other work. If you're unable to join us please post a question in advance to this thread.

Cannot BELIEVE this is taking place while I'm off on maternity leave! Xmas Envy

Stringer Bell was an amazing character in my favourite drama of all time. PatTheHammer season 4 in the school was my favourite. But then 1, 3 and 5 were brilliant too anything but season 2 in the port.

Dear Idris,

I'm having a great deal of trouble with playing it cool trying to come up with a proper question but just want to tell you that my husband does a wicked impersonation of you (as Luther) Grin.

Did you do any special, law-enforcement related preparation for your role as Luther?

Do you ever Google image yourself and just...admire?

Lots of pictures of his visit please!

I have a T shirt with "All in the game, yo" on.

But I would like to ask what his favourite line from The Wire was, whether his own or another character's?

Oh my days!! I have to sit down for a little bit to recover. Smile

Did you find it hard playing Mandela-such an inspiration to so many people?

Would you like to pop round for a cup of tea any time? Grin

Janemumsnet- I too hate season 2 with a passion!
Season 3 and 4 rock in my opinion. Omar, Stringer and The Bunk are all in equal place as my favourite characters.

I cannot think of a single sensible question. I may faint.

Okay, pulling myself together...

My husband and I loved Luther. I nearly fell off the sofa when you told someone to call New York and check with Detective Munch. All one universe.

Anyway...um...

Oh hello Idris, lovely if you to join us.
I watched the entire box set if the wire whilst cultivating my last baby. I wasn't keen on your character I much preferred Omar. Grin
we loved Luther, we did find some if the story a bit far fetched, such as being able to track down a cars whereabouts purely from a description eg, brown car.......oh yes that's at this multi story in George street.
So my question is this? Are you still DJ ing and are you planning to do a set in Cheltenham again? Last time my idiot sons saw you but didn't tell me so I missed it.
I have not spoken to then since so you would be healing a family rift. (That bits not true but I'm still a bit cross)
Oh by the way my number is...
