My husband’s long and arduous weekend. Handholds needed for him

Just a quick post, while our dinner cooks. My husband has had such a long and trying weekend. Let me know if you have any messages of support that you would like me to pass along.

He’s been on a 48 hour stag do bender. It’s been particularly tough on him because he’s 42 years old and has high blood pressure. God bless him.

There have been pub crawls, smoked meat cookouts, distillery tours where they tasted 25 different spirits, poker games and much more. And my husband has pushed through like an absolute saint. He didn’t go to bed until after 4am on both nights and has even lost his poor little voice from all the karaoke. He did 2 Cher songs! Wow!

I’ve had an easy weekend of it, in the homestead. Looking after 3 kids and getting all the washing done after our family holiday. Had a full day of work on Friday. Caught up on some DIY in the evenings too. General relaxation.

Which is why, when my husband arrived home this afternoon at 4.45pm and said he would be going up to bed for nap, I was happy to do the kids dinner and bedtime on my own.

The poor soul. Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts.

Thanks everyone. He’s a good man and he doesn’t deserve the headache.

He has 4 DGOD. I’ll ask him if there’s a particular one he wants me to fluff for him.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it, poor man really been through it lol

CandyLeBonBon · 17/04/2023 04:28

I'm glad he's made it through the night OP. What a worrying time for you. You must've been beside yourself. What a brave soldier he is. Flowers

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 17/04/2023 06:07

I've checked the news this morning and there hasn't been any stories about him, so I'm praying that he's made it though Flowers

MegaClutterSlut · 17/04/2023 07:31

Not expecting a reply anytime soon because no doubt your still busy at his bedside from your all night vigil but please tell me, DID HE MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT? 😭

CalpolDependant · 17/04/2023 07:33

I can’t believe the emotional outpouring for my brave and selfless darling husband. 🫶🏼

To all the people that have been clapping him in the street…. Thank you. Words are not enough.

He made it through the night.

He doesn’t want me to tell you the next bit, because he’s modest as well as heroic but I think you’d all want to know…

The 2 Cher songs were: If I Could Turn Back Time; and Strong Enough.

Piquant.

Wow, simply amazing 😢👏

Oxborn · 17/04/2023 07:50

Thanks so much for the update I’ve been up all night thinking of him laying there suffering what a soldier, if only we could turn back time but we can’t luckily he’s strong enough to get through @Mumsnet Hero

WoollyRosebud · 17/04/2023 08:05

So glad to see he has made it through the night. Like many others on here I have hardly slept for worry about him. What will be his chosen nourishing breakfast for the day? Boiled or lightly poached egg with soldiers, tea, fruit juice. Prepared by your own fair hands OP and carried to his bedside on a tray with lacy cloth. He may need to have morsels dropped into his weak quivering mouth as holding a fork or spoon will be hard. A sippy cup may be useful too.

fairgame84 · 17/04/2023 08:11

Thank God he survived the night. I bet it was touch and go at times.

The least you can do for such a brave soldier is change his ringtone to his favourite cher song. It's what he would have wanted if he'd sadly passed. Now it can be a living tribute to commemorate the weekend.

WoollyRosebud · 17/04/2023 08:23

I have been thinking about a suitable song to awaken the brave soldier. The opening tune to The Lion King would I think fit the bill rather well, full blast next to the bed. Maybe his darling children could parade in carrying a favourite soft toy aloft

Good Cher choices. But I think he needs to widen his repertoire, maybe you could do some of the Sonny / Cher duets from her early days?

I’ve got you Babe

sonicmum2002 · 17/04/2023 09:24

Oh, words cannot express the relief. Thank you for taking time out of your bedside vigil to post an update. I can get on with the rest of my day, knowing that he pulled through.

PictureConsequences · 17/04/2023 09:32

Oh thank goodness, what an absolute trouper! I will be able to concentrate on my work now, so that's a great relief.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 17/04/2023 09:42

This thread just forced a bit of a long and arduous wee out of me...

LessonsInPhysics · 17/04/2023 09:42

Mumsnet perfection, thank you all.

YesitsBess · 17/04/2023 09:43

Of course he sang 'Strong enough'. Its iconic, an anthem, and speaks to his indefatigable bravery in the face of all odds, smoked meats, and artisan spirits.

A true legend. 💃

BitOutOfPractice · 17/04/2023 10:07

Even his choice of Cher songs was brave. Brave and selfless. But that’s him all over isn’t it?

LadyMary50 · 17/04/2023 12:45

Have you thought about getting the vicar to his bedside and renewing your wedding vows.you could include the local gospel choir to sing something inspirational.Give him a big hug from me (around the neck)😂

LadyMary50 · 17/04/2023 12:49

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 16/04/2023 22:40

He won’t be properly rested if he has to keep getting up for a wee so I’m volunteering my nursing skills to come round and pop a catheter up his willy. Only trouble is I can’t seem to find any anaesthetic gel. Oh well, needs must.

😂😂👏👏loving this thread..

Mumsnut · 17/04/2023 13:03

I put a duff battery in the landing smoke detector on these occasions and go out when it starts beeping

Mummytothreeferalkids · 17/04/2023 13:17

This post is amazing. But genuinely feel for the man at this point at the grand old age of 33.5 and 3 kids I don't know how I'd still be alive with a weekend like that. 😂😂😂😂

Deathraystare · 17/04/2023 13:29

Oh the poor poor man. I hope you put out his slippers as well as the dressing gown of doom!

80sMum · 17/04/2023 13:38

Ah! This is more like the Mumsnet that I used to know! Great thread, OP! Thanks for making me chuckle. Lord knows, we could all do with a bit more of that! 👍🤣🤣

MamskiBell · 17/04/2023 13:44

Oh what a poppet, my thoughts and prayers are with him. God love his soul. 🙏
