AIBU to ask you if a daily habit has transformed your life?

CarlyWarly1980 · 25/07/2020 20:27

Just that, really..
Do you have a daily habit that has transformed your life for the better? A friend recommended a book along these lines but am I being unreasonable to think a daily habit can't really transform your life?
My friend has said the new habit of drinking water and putting on mascara every day helps her feel confident and think clearer improved her skin and helps her concentration. So I'm asking others on here AIBU to think one habit done daily can't really "change" your life?

YABU.

A positive change to your daily routine absolutely can change your life.

Instead of sneering, try it.

Fireplaceoffire · 27/07/2020 18:19

@mandolin you talk about life being finite and experiencing it but you are spending 10 hours a day working......

totallyyesno · 27/07/2020 18:56

@Fireplaceoffire Maybe she likes her work - some people do!!

Isaidnomorecrisps · 27/07/2020 19:04

@rachaelclaire1
No way - I was telling a painter about my left over covid (breathing still a bit crap) and he said you HAVE to change your life and follow this bloke called Wim Hof. Slightly sceptical I googled and he was real - so it’s good?

TWAMSWIAO · 27/07/2020 19:08

Well I’ve failed on all three today Grin

AperolWhore · 27/07/2020 19:09

@CarlyWarly1980 I’ve just started her beginners foundation course after multiple people recommending her to me and I’m really enjoying it xx

KatherineParr4 · 27/07/2020 19:26

Oh dear Manolin. Nothing could induce me to put any clothes on my body before showering.

  • @mandolin you talk about life being finite and experiencing it but you are spending 10 hours a day working......*

Maybe Mandolin is passionate about her work.

Manolin · 27/07/2020 20:18

@gorygloria You got it (his work though).

A ten hour day is nothing if you enjoy what you do. I do not commute and that is a great help. Many of my ex-colleagues work 37 hour weeks, with 10-20 hours commuting, working on emails in the evening, at weekends etc.

Anyway, 50 hours a week leaves 118 spare hours. Think of it that way. Some days may be longer, some days I choose not to work. I am not overworked, stressed or undervalued. My habits have transformed my life and I am very happy with that.

claireyjs · 27/07/2020 20:18

Drinking 2l water per day, lowering carbs intake and walking 10k+ steps per day...
Started this at beginning of lockdown. So far I have lost 22lbs and no longer have to take blood pressure tablets so yes, it has changed my life...

Manolin · 27/07/2020 20:20

@aglet Your judgment is wasted on me.

AintPageantMaterial · 27/07/2020 21:23

Manolin I think your routine and work/life balance sound fabulous. And all with chickens for company too.

AperolWhore · 27/07/2020 21:37

@KatherineParr4 yoga with Adrianne. She’s fab, not annoying in the slightest and her free yoga for complete beginners on YouTube is really enjoyable. I did that everyday for 7 days (20min) and for the bug x

RunningNinja79 · 27/07/2020 21:45

I've just thought of something that I do, especially during lockdown and its as simple as get dressed. I know most days people tend to leave the house whether that be for work, school runs etc. However, even if I'm not leaving the house I still get washed, clean teeth and get dressed. I've never been one to sit in PJs all day. I just can't do it unless I'm ill and even then I still feel the need to put on something.

During lockdown even while working at the dining room table I still made sure I was dressed. I wasn't in office clothes, but I was popping to the shop suitable.

So today I have had my evening walk (as it was a rest day as far as running is concerned), I've got myself a guided journal (which is a pretty notebook and some guided points on pinterest) and I have done some stretches this morning.

I have been drinking 2Ls of water for over a week and started the 16:8 (eating between 11-7) last week due to feeling fed up about my weight.

Tomorrow it is some hill work while running, upper body stretches and continue the journal

Gratitude practice is a game changer

LovelyIssues · 27/07/2020 21:48

Some of these are great! Getting up before everyone else for enough time for a coffee, wiping round the sink / toilet while I use the bathroom in the morning seems to make it more manageable. And a good face care routine before bed! Since lockdown I have a terrible new habit of having an alcoholic drink every evening to "unwind" I desperately want to kick this habit. And I definitely need to drink more water.

formerbabe · 27/07/2020 21:57

Make my bed...I'm naturally messy....if I don't make my bed, the whole day is a disaster.

DoveOfPiss · 27/07/2020 22:06

I love this thread!
I am going to start yoga with Adrienne after so many recommendations both on here and irl.

I have started doing 5 deep breaths in bed before I go to sleep. Its worked wonders for my anxiety and really helps me exhale the stresses of the day. I now take minutes to fall asleep rather than hours.
Also use the Presently gratitude app daily on my phone. This really helps me think about the little things in the day like the traffic lights all being green or the birds singing in the trees.
Still need to drink more water though!

KatherineParr4 · 27/07/2020 22:09

I have never heard of a guided journal. Where do I get one? This is a great thread!
