Embarrassed by boyfriend

Been seeing someone for around 3 months. We get in we'll but he's quirky, which is fine - well I thought it was. Sometimes I'm starting to think he's just plain odd.

He's overweight and said he wanted to get fitter so I suggested he come along to my karate class. He did and I ended up mortified. He wore scruffy old jogging suit bottoms with paint on them and a massive baggy t-shirt with Harry Potter on. Whenever instructor showed him something he giggled. Instructor is hard arse, old school - I've known him for years and knew he was going to react badly. After 3 or so giggling moments and DB stood in weird positions and flapping his arms around like a little girl instructor said "what are you giggling at? Are you a girl or what? Do you have something wrong with you?". Everyone was looking. DB started stuttering and instructor carried on with "you know this is karate and not ballet don't you? Are you in the wrong class?". DBs face went bright red. I was mortified and just wanted to hide. Another female instructor said "alright, it's his first day" so instructor said "but what's he giggling at?". Anyway later on instructor came over to me and said "where the hell did you find him? Is he one of your patients or something?" I was so embarrassed I just said "he's a neighbour".

After the class I asked DB why he kept laughing. I'd warned him beforehand about the instructor. He replied "it was funny, I thought I looked silly!" So I said "you did, why did you act like that? It's a class full of martial artists, nobody else was acting like that" do he looked embarrassed and said "I don't know" so I said he shouldn't come again as instructor will have it in for him now. He got upset and said "but I like spending time with you" so I snapped and farted and said "well you embarrassed me, I've been going there for years and now I don't want to go back because of you, find your own hobby".

Anyway this isn't an isolated incident, a couple of weeks ago he embarrassed me in a cafe shouting and making a scene. In private we get on really well but in private he mortifies me.

He still wants to come to karate with me tonight. AIBU to tell him I don't want him there?

I can't help feeling a bit sorry for him. Sometimes I giggle when I feel uncomfortable, and your instructor sounds like a bit of an arsehole here not your partner.

It was kind of you to suggest he came with you to get fit though.

Why not find something new you can do together and keep your martial arts for just you.

I did Shotokan karate when I was younger and loved it, dad is black belt in same.

Our sensi doesn't fuck about, your there to learn and acting like a dipshit proved he wasn't right for it and a licence would never been approved for by your leader.

Your BF was being an idiot and that's marked you up, get rid and stay friends only if he's fine that way but I agree with your leader - he acted like an idiot so he was treated as such.

Snapped and farted 😂😂. Break up with him you shouldn't be embarrassed about taking your boyfriend in public with you and you just don't sound compatible together maybe as friends but definitely not as a couple.

kitty as soon as I posted, I wanted to take back what I said about running from the hills, when I realised he could have Aspergers or Autism. It certainly does sound like he might be, it does not sound like op is compatible with this man. Her tone towards him is quite condecending. Yes I would be upset if anyone thought that of dd, which they could well do, as she is socially emotionally a lot younger than 11. Maybe this is the case with op boyfriend. I can see her coming across in the same way as this man, in public it can be very embarrassing. In a cafe last week, she did a massive burp(forced it out trying to be silly), and started laughing loudly so we had all eyes on us.

In my Dojo, a lot of people wear t shirt and joggers to Kickbox, there is no set uniform. Coming back to op, maybe she should let him go.

Snapped and 'shouted'?
Farting would have been less aggressive.

Did he know what he was supposed to be wearing? I would have no idea what to wear to a class.

Does anyone remember the "so I pissed on my chair and said..." thread from a few months ago? Very much of the same ilk.

My husband is a bit of a nervous giggler, he’s also not particularly bothered about looking smart.

If someone asked me ‘where I found him’ I wouldn’t lie and say he was my brother. I think you need to move on.

The way OP says "snapped and farted" - it's like farting is her last-resort ammunition in arguments. Pulling out the big guns when there is nothing left to say...

Oh don't, my poor ribs ...
