To be miffed at "Gift list for mother of the baby" enclosed in *Baby naming ceremony* invitation?

doubleshotespresso · 12/06/2013 23:38

So some close friends (who married in church), but now claim to be atheist are holding a naming ceremony for their 8 month old first baby in an hotel.....

The invitation is beautiful with a map, timings "event closes at 11pm"?

The gift list ranges from £30-to £300, all items for the mother, cosmetics, trinkets, jewellery, pampering breaks, personalised hand-bound stationery and photo albums...

Anybody know the drill for these naming ceremonies? Are we supposed to guess a gift for the baby? Or just congratulate the mother for deciding on a name?

I have read this a dozen times and am staggered beyond belief-DP read it and fell into hysterics....

My gut tells me to go along with Jo Malone scented nappies or something.

Somebody please tell me this is not normal?!?!?!

Feels like reaching the end of an epic novel .....and not being disappointed Smile
What a super outcome for all concerned, and how wonderful that your friends are formally recognising what a special person you are ......and what a great role model for their baby in the future!
Having said that the sister's defence should be "heard" .... well, people also condemn themselves by what they say and she certainly has done that! I suspect that the family will be extracting retribution for some time to come, and I really do hope that she decides not to come for the event!! Appalling behaviour from a patently self centred and truly unpleasant individual.

Best of all double, BEST OF ALL, ....is your own news. Flowers Wine
You couldn't write that kind of an ending in a novel without cries of "unbelievable"!! .....but "This IS Your Life" Grin

Sometimes people really do get what they deserve Grin Grin Grin

ThedementedPenguin · 23/06/2013 16:17

Wow.

Doubleshot you are truly an amazing friend. The christening/naming day sounds fantastic and all the kids will really enjoy themselves.

Congrats on the engagement. :)

I appear to have something in my eye..... Congratulations!!! x

HappyHippyChick · 23/06/2013 16:30

Woo Hoo! Congratulations 🎉 💍

swampytiggaa · 23/06/2013 16:32

Just finished reading this in one sitting. OP you are fantastic and a brilliant friend. Most people - me included - would see an invitation/gift list like that and think 'grabby cow' and avoided the situation.

You however had the bollox to talk to your friend about it and have been able to help her health wise as well as sorting the ddp and ds out.

You rock. Honestly you have made me look at myself and i want to be like you in future - a true and good friend.

So pleased you are getting your happily ever after x hope all your dreams come true.

SauvignonBlanche · 23/06/2013 16:40

Classics - yes! Grin

longjane · 23/06/2013 16:47

GreenEggsAndNichts · 23/06/2013 17:02

wow! Thank you to whomever posted the link to this thread over in the parking thread. This is an amazing tale. Gobsmacked by the sheer cheek of the sister! She can have a ridiculous party for herself when she has her own baby, fgs.

Congratulations on everything, OP. Well done putting your foot down (we should all have friends like you!) and ofc, congratulations on your engagement. Flowers

LeoTheLateBloomer · 23/06/2013 17:03
