Much as I love to do it....

Do you think you should get Tech to write a little script that makes it so that any time anyone tries to write a post saying

Message deleted by Mumsnet

it should be altered to say

Message deleted by Mumsnet (not really, they just wrote that)

OP posts:

Message is hiding under the dining table and is refusing to come out unless everyone calls it NinkyNonk and it is allowed to wear its Spiderman pants every day.

WTWTW - tis so a message, it says so next to the box where you type the message and then post it. So it IS a message. So ner.

aquavit · 28/06/2011 16:14

message will be out of the office until 3rd July and will get back to you on its return

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 28/06/2011 16:14

thumbwitch, but we have 'op' not 'om'.

People often say 'so why bother to post?' or 'thanks for all the helpful posts' or 'it was posted on a previous page'. Nobody uses 'message' in the same context.

Sending a message is odd, am not sending a message, am posting on a thread.

Also IPOAT not IMOAT.

So ner back atcha.

Grin

(Couldn't give a sod really and today is the first time I have found it odd)

MissBeehiving · 28/06/2011 16:17

Message in a bottle

thumbwitch · 28/06/2011 16:19

Not sending a message, posting a message on a thread. Posting a post on a thread sounds odd too, no? And more ner ner ne-ner ner. Grin

Although I agree there are inconsistencies.

OK - MN self-imploded due to fatal inconsistencies.

bellavita · 28/06/2011 16:21

oooh I do love a good message deleter! Grin

RustyBear · 28/06/2011 16:22

WhipMeIndiana - "The medium is the message" is a phrase coined by Marshall McLuhan meaning that the form of a medium embeds itself in the message, creating a symbiotic relationship by which the medium influences how the message is perceived. It's a haunting memory from my days at library school, but I thought it might be relevant to your message's identity crisis.

Actually, it may well have an slightly different application in MN, where the topic where the message is posted influences the way the message is percieved - especially if the topic is AIBU.

nickelbabe · 28/06/2011 16:24

WTWTA - you post the message therefore you are the poster of the message

verb versus noun.

WTWTA deleted for not making any sense. Wink
