to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

It was perfect. I had got stuck at the start of one of the longest narrow stretches and had been there for ages as every time I started to pull out, someone else came bombing along. So eventually I made a dash for it and was well into the straight when Cowbag appears, doing her usual ridiculous speed. So I kept trundling towards her and had a slightly nasty moment when I thought she wasn't going to stop, but she screetched to a halt right in front of me and she was on her phone!

I sat there while she carried on her conversation and glared at me, clearly expecting me to cave in as usual. So I smiled encouragingly and she glared a bit more and then actually gestured at me to get out of her way. I shook my head, still smiling, and made a shooing gesture at her. At this point she very clearly was telling whoever she was talking to about the woman who wouldn't get out of her way, and she took the phone away from her ear and started pointing back down the road. I smiled again and pointed back the other way which lead to lots of arm waving in a "you are so unreasonable" sort of way, and further angry phone conversation. At this point I realised I had one of my work notebooks and a pen lying in the passenger footwell so I picked it up and made a big show of leaning over the front of the car to write down her registration. She took the phone away from her ear again and did a "what? what?" gesture, so I mimed someone talking on a phone and shook my head sadly and wagged my finger at her.

I actually thought she was going to explode with rage. She stared at me for another few seconds, obviously said 'I'll call you back', threw the phone down and reversed. As I passed her I started to wind the window down and she did the same, clearly gearing herself up for a massive rant and I just said "thank you, so kind" and gunned off down the road.

I was quite surprised that the three cars in the passing place she had to reverse to were so patient - there was no tooting or anything. Maybe they recognised someone at the end of their patience.

I think I might just have issued a declaration of war....

What an awful woman!!!

That's killing her with kindness eh! She was probably on the phone to the speaking clock anyway.

Ripeberry · 05/05/2011 09:08

Ooh! Get yourself one of those tiny cameras that go in the car (£30) and put it on your sun visor, so if she does get shirty you will have it all on memory card and with sound as well Grin

I regularly drive with my camera and several times it would have been useful in any accident disputes.

KatieMiddleton · 05/05/2011 09:10

Rofl at "so kind" when I suspect you meant "take that you cowbag!".

Brilliant Grin
