to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

OneDigitus - yes I am BD.

You will have to give me a clue about yourself though. Smile

ChristinedePizan · 01/05/2011 12:22

Theotherboleyngirl - Hardknott Pass should not be even attempted unless you are a competent reverser :o

OnesDigitusPrimusMagicalis · 01/05/2011 12:23

gorn a bit poshly Latin for the Royal Wedding - aka Thumbwitch [csmile]

TOBG - yep, you are the only one who feels sorry for her! She creates her own stress - it's within her power to feel happier and give herself a small warm fuzzy feeling if she'd only be a bit more generous with her reversing.

MoreBeta · 01/05/2011 12:36

Thumb - oooohhhh that makes sense now. Grin

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 15:09

MoreBeta I didn't drop Latin in Lower IV and it's still taken me all day to work it out with the help of Thumb's direction Grin

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 15:28

oh I cheated on the last bit - I couldn't find a translation I liked for 'witch', since the words that I found also meant other things; and I have just, to my utter shame, discovered (some 30 years after buying it) that my Latin dictionary is missing the last few pages, from Wa onwards. You can see how much I used it, can't you... and I did an O level in it!

ANYway, back to Panda's madwoman... Grin

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 15:33

Thumb I did an O level in it too, however I can safely say that I have not had a great deal of use for it in general life in the 24 years since...Although it was quite handy when I moved to Spain 7 years ago, in a roundabout sort of way!

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 15:41

Oh I have used it ... but then I had a medical sort of job, lots of medical terms are derived from Latin (and Greek but I didn't do that). DigitisPrimus is the Latin for thumb, as is pollex but I liked the first one better for a posh RW type name.Grin
Now stop derailing Panda's thread! Wink

HerHissyness · 01/05/2011 15:48

Oh Slap away, Hecate (and others) slap away.

I try not to drive up there, because it winds me up so much, but some times it's unavoidable, and apart from shaking my head almost imperceptibly, I clearly mutter in my car so I have half a hope they can lip-read! Grin

In our car park, you have to reverse into the space, so you can see the incompetent loons as they nearly slam into the side of your car. Those that can't reverse end up driving into the path of equally idiotic drivers, it's like dicing with death!

One driver ended up in the edge of the football pitch having clearly pressed the accellerator instead of the brake. Took out a bollard.

Thank God there wasn't anyone walking on the pavement she crossed to do so.

Surely you can't get a license without proving you can at least parallel park and reverse round a corner, and both of those moves are surely a lot harder than reversing relatively straight to a passing place?

Non-reversing woman is clearly Margaret Thatcher.

I am so in love with this thread, I can't even explain it. MN silliness and righteous outrage at its very best. :)

Can't wait for the Thursday update!

Can't wait ti see what happens tomorrow Grin

razors · 03/05/2011 11:27

Think I have read most of this but have not seen anyone suggest taking down the rude woman's number plate and reporting her to the police for dangerous driving.

I do feel your frustration but this thread has also been very funny!

razors · 03/05/2011 11:29

Just another thought - have you spoken to your local MP about the rat run situation?

razors · 03/05/2011 11:30

Sorry should have thought this through before posting but have you seen sometimes on the news where local villagers have a speed gun and stand on corners recording speeding cars and giving information to local police?

KeepCalmAndCurryOn · 03/05/2011 11:37

All you need is a dayglo tabard and a hairdryer - will slow down the speeders Grin

HerHissyness · 03/05/2011 21:37

Is it Thursday yet? No? Sad

How many sleeps? Grin

TheWestCoastLotus · 03/05/2011 22:57

Loving the image of pretending to have a radar gun by holding a hair dryer!! :o

Needanewname · 03/05/2011 23:12

2 more sleeps! Am loving this thread, wish I'd found it at the beginning though.

fearnelinen · 04/05/2011 00:11

Shamelessly marking - go panda!

KTisPG · 04/05/2011 11:47
