Is it possible to have natural twin births?

Hi

I'm 18 weeks preg with twins, due in Aug.
I've had numerous discussions with midwives etc who seem to be of the mindset that a c-section is the most likely scenerio for twin births. This is my 4th pregnancy and the other 3 were a great experience, and as natural as they could possibly be.

help, can someone put my mind at rest!

I had twins naturally - just gas and air. They were 4 11 and 4 13 - so quite small really. They came of their own accord at
36 wks and 2 days. 2nd one wasn't really ready to come, and had waters broken for me.... but then about 50 mins later she was born. 2 gorgous girls
BUT - then had spinal block to have placentas removed as they wouldn't come away!!
never mind. all fine.
GOOD LUCK!!! And its great having twins... just make sure u ask for help - and get someone else to give the 10pm feed so that u can get some rest.
And - try to feed at the same time or u will be permanently feeding.
MY BREST FRIEND - is a great cushion to buy if you are going to breastfeed.... u can do them together - one tucked under each arm on this firm, strap around you pillow.

yes! I have twins, born 6 weeks early, only gas and air. please dont feel pressurised into a c section. i had a doctor standing there after dt1 was born saying "if you dont hurry up you will need a c" i told him to get lost, and so did my midwife! dt2 was born 13 minutes later.

I know someone who's just had twins naturally at 39wks. The babies weighed just over 6lb and nearly 8.5lbs!!

My mum gave birth to me and my twin 5 weeks early, naturally and surprisingly because no-one knew she was having twins. She described it as 'one tickle and you were out, another tickle and your sister was born'.

I'm wondering whether time numbs the memory

My little sis had twins naturally at term (they were 15lb 2oz between them and the 2nd heaviest ever at that hospital fwiw!), it was her 5th pregnancy. That same week a good friend had twins by section, 2nd preg but one twin was breech and the other transverse so no other option really. I think there is more risk for things to go wrong during a multiple birth so it follows that more are born by section. So if everyone is happy that your twins are in a good position come August then hopefully you will push them out too? Your midwives sound very vague, perhaps they wait till later on to check the position as you get nearer the due date. If you can't get information from the midwives then make a fuss and demand answers from one of the consultants at the hospital.

Hi I have 7 year old twin girls born without cesreian they were both facing head down don,t know if that helped. they were born after 11 hours i was 32 at the time.

I had twins naturally at 35 weeks. I had mobile epidural which had worn off by the time twin 2 appeared (31 minutes later!!!!) but gas and air sufficed. Pretty quick and relatively easy.
Don't worry yorself, as long as they are in a good position then natural should be fine xx

i was with my friend when she gave birth to twin boys at 36 weeks.she was in operating room just in case but managed naturally in the end.

fiplus4 · 14/06/2007 19:02

My girls were induced at 35 weeks (nos. 3 & 4 in the family) then continued of their own accord. 4 minutes between them, with the second turned round 'en route' by someone who'd one it before. No stitches - unlike the 2 boys! Never discussed other possibilities - apart from saying that if there were probs, we'd go through any necessary procedure.

I had mine naturally too at 39+6,both were head down,1st twin was assisted with forceps and twin 2 arrived 28 minutes later, mind you the gas and air was fab, they were 5lb9 & 5lb8.Good luck x.

Hiya,

Just had twins naturally 17 days ago. Midwife had to fight all the way to keep it natural but we did it, and very glad too. Must admit everyone, including other midwives at the hospital were very shocked as apparently nearly all are C-section at out hospital. Most of the midwives haven't had a twin delivery naturally.

I had my twins naturally, I had spontaneous rupture of membranes at 32 weeks and went into labour almost immediately. The obsteric junior doctor kept asking if I wanted an epidural to which the answer was NO. Both were head down but twin 2 flipped just after twin 1 was born so came out feet first, delivered by hand. I guess one good thing about the girls being so premature was they were quite small so no stitches required! My consultant recomended attempted vaginal delivery all along as both were head down.

There has never been any other option to my mind, regardless of the number of babies, but a planned c-section. I know I'll be shot down for such views, but simply - I do not wish to be in pain for hours and then have my fanny torn up and feel like a wind tunnel afterwards, Kegels or not. And yes, I know all about the risks of c-section.
Different strokes and all that..
Luckily my consultant fully agrees.

Our twins were born by c-section yesterday, but they were both breech, so we were advised that was the only way they were comiung out...
