Sky bill £114!!!

I am reviewing my monthly outgoing and my sky bill is out of control!

£114 per month for broadband and a TV entertainment package.

i rang to see if they can reduce it - the best offer they could give me is £101 including a glass TV. I said I don’t want a glass TV and I got an incoherent answer about the TV making it cheaper!

I am considering switching to Virgin - but I think there must be something I am missing - the equivalent bundle seems to be £52 (albeit with a few less TV channels).

anyone made the switch? I can’t believe I pay so much to Sky plus apple tv and Netflix ontop😩

at a guess they use the higher paying customers to then have the lower prices for new customers and then rinse and repeat

The only thing we dont have is that many sports channels but they werent that good anyway , no.live PL for example snd random matches

Most likely is you joined more recently than her, started on a cheaper package and yours had been rising with inflation.

My suspicion is that OP joined on Sky+ before moving to Sky Q at some point, but waiting for OP to return to confirm.

There seems to be a definite jump now with the legacy Sky Signature package on Sky+ / Sky Q and that they're trying to encourage people away from satellite systems to streaming.

This has been the advice from every single bloody technical support member I've spoken to (despite me explaining numerous times why we can't) which feels more like sales to me.

It will be interesting to see what you get offered if you play the retentions game, but I don't think it will be anywhere near what you're currently on. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong.

We have Sky Q because we like the convenience and the planner thing. I probably wouldn’t bother wth Sky stream box and would just use the Apple TV instead when Q goes, it is more expensive but we don’t pay what OP pays.

We pay £85 with sky, that includes the sky glass to, 2 mini boxes, cinema, sports etc
they only knocked it down when I said I was leaving to go with virgin
we do have virgin WiFi though as Sky’s is shit

NowTV is owned by Sky and is their version of Netflix. If you just want the sports and nothing else, it's £35 a month. You can cancel online and they'll offer you better prices when you go to cancel. Turn down the first offer and you get a second better offer. If you turn that down, it just cancels.

No you don't. You just save it within your account in the app. Most have multiple profiles so you can have a different favourites to your partner and DC.

Plus it gives suggestions in different categories and when the algorithm learns what you like, it suggests different things that are similar.

Do you actually need superfast BB anyway? Look at TalkTalk and what they offer. I get BB including, TV and it is £25 a month plus £8 for Netflix. I work from home on Teams and it is more than adequate

But even if you do need superfast broadband, it's about £25 pm. We pay that for full fibre from Vodafone currently and just hop from offer to offer every year or two so never pay more than that. Plus we usually get a voucher for somewhere like M&S or Amazon, so as near as a cash discount if you ever spend money with either of those.

I am on the phone with them now trying to cancel it - what a bloody faff! They don’t make it easy.

So it seems when you actually really conceal they can offer you all sorts of deals. My bill is now £61. Including full fiber broadband, digital streaming and okay less tv channels but I didn’t watch most of it anyway.

Sky can definitely offer a better price. We threatened to leave.we took up a similar offer with sky glass, cut out loads of their packages and went very very basic. Paying nowhere near the £100 you've quoted. Lo and behold they soon offer you discounts on any packages or channels you might be interested in. We took up a couple and still far cheaper than what we were originally paying.

I wouldn't be too sure. Virgin did this on purpose.

I stopped Sky altogether 3 years ago after shelling out thousands for donkeys years. I really thought I wd miss it.

I watch Catch up Tv more now and we have both Netflix and Prime.

The only channels I occasionally miss are TLC and Sky Atlantic.

Sky is such a rip off and we also never got on that well with their broadband either.

If you can't cancel by phone do it by letter and make it formal. This is how I got out of virgin..

A n internet provide I was with got bought by Sky. So I arranged a new provider and rang Sky to cancel.
My password was "I hate sky" and I'd never actually expected to have to say it all. I always assumed it'd be first and fourth letter etc. But no. Full password. So I told her.
Next question: Why are you leaving. I reminded her of the password I'd set when being forced to be on Sky.

It mostly started because I had sky tv and discovered (after some time to be fair) that I couldn't get ITV. So I got them to come and sort it out. One engineer suggested moving house.
So in the end they paid for a huge length of cable and put the dish at the bottom of the garden.

So, Sky Q customer not Sky+?

I wasn't sure because you said multi room (which is Sky+ name) not multi screen (Sky Q) but that sounds a reasonably good deal and gives me some hope for next week...

I think I am sky q - to be honest I don’t pay much attention😊 - which is probably why I ended up paying such a huge bill for crappy service.

The new bill is much lower - I won’t be able to record but I don’t do that anyway. I only use the second sky box in the ‘big room’ at Christmas - and when I thought about it it is usually to watch a Christmas movie on Apple TV or Amazon prime anyway.

I could have got it a little cheaper by changing broadband providers but I think it’s down to a reasonable cost now.

No. We have been with sky since it came out.

I made the switch to Virgin broadband but kept Sky TV.

As soon as you do the virgin order, sky will email you maybe a day later and offer you the new customer price, you can then cancel virgin.

It was so annoying because I had asked them 3 times to give me the new customer price - so I said too little too late. It was also really annoying switching over to virgin as they were totally incompetent.

However, Ive now got cheaper fibre for 2 years. I'll probably go back to Sky after that. Glad I kept the tv though.

Yeah its so annoying now its all abroad and they have no authority like they used to - however the accessibility center is still in Scotland.

I was cancelling and having issues and ended up talking to them as the centre in India must have decided my issue was too complicated. Spoke to a lovely scottish lady who said she thought it was so silly how sky and virgin etc don't give loyal customers new customer prices and we have to play these silly games. She said sometimes she'll be on the phone setting up a new person and they then say oh sorry Ive just an email from Virgin/BT etc saying now they can give me a better price so I don't need this anymore.

She managed to get me a better price on my tv too! I said I wish we could just talk to you in the first place!

Agreed - while everyone was polite and professional the individual I initially spoke to was clearly instructed to upsell and was desperate for me to take the new TV - I could sense his frustration every time I said I didn’t want or need the sky glass TV. He even said I should take it and either not use it or give it away! He said it would more expensive without the TV???

when I spoke to someone else they said no TV - okay that would reduce things considerably. There is a little hub thing similar to the sky box you just plug in
