Sky bill £114!!!

I am reviewing my monthly outgoing and my sky bill is out of control!

£114 per month for broadband and a TV entertainment package.

i rang to see if they can reduce it - the best offer they could give me is £101 including a glass TV. I said I don’t want a glass TV and I got an incoherent answer about the TV making it cheaper!

I am considering switching to Virgin - but I think there must be something I am missing - the equivalent bundle seems to be £52 (albeit with a few less TV channels).

anyone made the switch? I can’t believe I pay so much to Sky plus apple tv and Netflix ontop😩

Yeah I don’t want crap streaming tv either. I like my Sky Q! I like my planner and recording

I never really understand why people get Sky Q or VM for recording
Everything is in the relevent app
DH would record endless things and I had to point out he just had to go onto the app and its all there anyway
I will never regret getting rid of mine

My brother did the same to my mother with sky, also signing her up for a fairly expensive mobile phone contract that he says she'll need if she's out and about. The lot comes to about £150 per month and she can barely use any of it. I swear he likes to just play billy big bollocks with her money, going online and splashing the cash.

I need to make that phone call, ours is £135.

I never moan about the licence fee as it's only a bit more than that a year.

What apps do you mean?

Not everything is on catch up tv or apps. You also often have to wait until the next day.

I get annoyed with all the great offers fof new customers.
I had Hayu, HBO and 2 other channels I didn't want added to my package recently as some sort of loyalty gift.
Now they're being offered for new customers for £24 a month.
I'd rather have them removed and have £24 off my bill.

I extortionate when you look at the deals they offer new customers.

I will now pay £63 a month which still feels like a lot for broadband and some TV channels - but it’s a lot cheaper than £114!

I know I could get it cheaper again - but this is fine for me and I will negotiate again in two years - I won’t let it drift and drift again!

Most programmes are on the app for the channel eg iplayer, itvx released the same day unless its a big reveal

Why record it when you can just go to ITVX etc and catch up ?
It used to drive me nuts that he recorded stuff and it turned the channel over midway though what I was watching

When i moved i ditched Virgin which i had had for 20 years and was nearly £100.
i have very gast broadband on Plusnet at £39 (ish) a month and run two TVs off it with apple TV. Just done same with parents - plusnet and a new tv with inbuilt google tv.
no landline. So much cheaper and just watch live on terrestrial apps or choose the programme or stream. Way way cheaper if you're on a budget.

Loads of stuff isn’t on until the next day. I find this out when I’ve forgotten to record something and go on the app and then it’s not there it’s so annoying. You can’t just start it say 15 mins late or fast forward ads.

Plus you’ve then got to watch it with a ton of adverts that you can’t skip! And not everything is even on there. Also it’s either itv or ch5 won’t let you use certain buttons like fast forward or pause. It’s just not half as good.

Agree totally - Virgin and i had a massive dispute re leaving even tho id been with them 20 years and they didn't service the area i was moving too!! Would never ever use them again. They took me to debt collector to pay £60 leaving fee even tho i have 3 months notice and returned the router. Just tried to set up EE broadband with my parents and they lost all my info. Cancelled and went with best package on plusnet plus add ons of streamers and it's much cheaper.

Prompted by this thread and my recent binning of fucking bastard VM I have been on a spree
Got my pet insurance for the dogs down by £130 a month
Home and contents insurance down by £67
Binned a couple of subscriptions totally £21

Just been through this with Sky today. I can get Sky Ultimate and broadband 900 for 41 pounds. Sky Q on the way out.

We also bought a separate hard drive to record programmes but i think we've used it twice.
Think you can buy individual sports events if you want them?

We’re now paying £30 odd for Sky so it’s not too bad! And with Virgin for broadband.

We have an air con unit. I’ve been watching the smart meter when it’s on and it’s about 25/30p an hour so I don’t feel bad running it most nights at the moment!

Home insurance is horrifying. Mine was £600 for the year.

Its proper fitted aircon in the bedrooms, can also use as a heater in the winter
Before anyone has a shitfit about aircon my DH a heart condition, GP advised it
We also have a unit so that will go downsrairs
Its like a 747 taking off though and not so good.

I have the Sky Ultimate linked previously for £24/month which includes Netflix and Disney+ (plus my favourite channel of Sky Atlantic).

Then I have the cheap broadband for under £20/month. Can't remember the exact amount. So that's less than £44 a month for it all.

We binned off Sky and now have EE tv and broadband. Went from £140 to £80 (ish)

I’m planning on getting it fitted myself too but in the next house as we’re moving. No point in anyone feeling ill in this heat!

Ha yes my unit is quite noisy but I actually find it helps send me to sleep!

Thats what we had and then it ended up at about £80 over time! I also like Sky Atlantic :)

I'd happily ditch Sky but DH likes the sports. Is there any alternative?

We've just left BT after many many years. Our broadband alone was £60pcm. We're now with Community broadband. Faster than bt and only £20pcm.

We have now tv, and pay £21 a month for sky sports.

Our sky package includes netflix..our broadband Lighting Fibre is £12 a month. Virgin media have just been fined £93 million, not £28, mil, for not answering the phone and dealing with complaints.
