Just had our bill and I think I could vomit.

We owe them £1000 just over for the period from end of November 2007 to 20th May, so our payments have gone up to £200 a month

Family of 5, 2 adults 3 kids
We have dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, laptop and tv.

What do you pay?
I'm doing this for research really and if ours is bad then I'm going to swap because we cannot afford to pay that much.

Well I have the last quarter's gas bill in front of me, and it was £240 (3 months) for family of 3, 4 bed semi, gas CH, gas cooking, gas power combi boiler for hot water. Electric is usually less, but can't remember right now. I've just switched as that is with BG and I've gone for a capped tarrif with Eon.

Nbg · 30/05/2008 16:25

CK, I'm thinking of going with Eon, or at least calling them for prices.

tiredemma · 30/05/2008 16:27

we use atlantic at the moment

£55 a month for elec
£43 a month for gas

just changed to Eon though who offered £88 in total for both with capped prices until oct 2009

tiredemma · 30/05/2008 16:28

sorry- two adults, two children

washing machine, elec cooker. tv in every room

No dishwasher, no tumble dryer.

Nbg · 30/05/2008 16:33

We pay by dd - I think it is only £23 per month.

DH is VERY strict about electricity and has saver bulb thingies in all the lights.

We have a dishwasher and washing machine, no tumble drier.

2 adults and 2 young children who are trained to turn off all lights if they are not in the room.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 30/05/2008 16:39

We pay £130 a month for both, all the usual elec things, only use gas for the heating/water.

Two adults, two kids, someone is usually always at home.

We find that the £130 isn't quite enough to cover the winter fuel prices, but then in summer it evens out, with usually a little bit of credit, I do mean a little bit though!

tiredemma · 30/05/2008 16:40

must add Nbg- we are out all day so no elec/gas is used really between the hours of 8am - 5pm.

pointydog · 30/05/2008 16:49

£23 per month??!! Are you sure?

Collision · 30/05/2008 16:50

No, not sure. Will check when DH comes home!

Chocolateteapot · 30/05/2008 16:51

Was £75 a month for gas and electricity combined with Scottish power but have just changed to Eon who reckon it will be £65 a month.

There are 2 adults, 2 children. Both adults at home all day as we both work from home. Electric oven, dishwasher & tumble driers. Two computers on most of the time .

Nbg · 30/05/2008 16:52

Have just called Eon and their fixed rate offer ends today at 8pm.
They can't really save us anymore than £15 a year but we do get one of those contraptions that go between the meters and reads what your using.

Last gas bill came to £450 for qtr (as against their estimate of 570) covered Jan - Mar - 2 adults/2 Children - heating is about all we have for gas come to think of it and I dont have it on all day even when working from Home that being said boiler is old (and size of a small planet) will see if it reduces when we refurbish assuming we dont spend all our money on utility bills that is- Electricity was £240 for the same period - family size house - 5 bed/3 bath not massive - although you would be forgiven for thinking so looking at the bills - just short of £700 per qtr.

Haylstones · 30/05/2008 17:01

We pay £65 pcm. 2 adults, 2 children, fairly big house, washing machine, dishwasher, couple of TVs and gas central heating.

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 17:03

£57 pcm

2 adults and 3 dc - one is only a baby though

tumble drier, 3 tvs, laptop, and 2 games consoles. also big american fridge thing if that makes any difference.

oooggs · 30/05/2008 17:10

£44 per month with Eon

2 adults 3 children (ds1 4.5 & dts 14mths)

tv, electric oven, dishwasher, washing machine, radio, electric shower, pc & tumble drier.

we use energy saving lightbulbs, have gas cetral heating & a woodburner

oooggs · 30/05/2008 17:10

oh yes and a fridge & a fridge/freezer!!

Nbg · 30/05/2008 17:12

We have LPG. We use Calor and it costs about £380 to fill 80% of the 100ltr tank.

Use varies, however, as the heat is gas.

Electric is from Scottish HydroElectric - the appliances (including cooker) and lights - about £90/quarter.

Family of 4, large bungalow a little over 100 years old.

Wheelybug · 30/05/2008 17:14

Gas - about £500 for a quarter in winter £80 in summer (and we only have heating on a bit in the morning and a bit in the evening)

elec - 70 a month.

DH, me, DD (age 3). Biggish oldish house.

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 17:14

Southern Electric, i am a dual fuel customer.

oooggs · 30/05/2008 17:15

NBG - we are with E'on (dh has complained today that we use too much electric)

Moosma · 30/05/2008 17:18

Nbg we have the same as you but with only 2 children. We pay £30 a month on gas and £65 on electricity however I have just been refunded £140 for the gas and £116 for the elec. So really we spent £220 on gas and £664 on elec in a year.
