It's such a huge relief as DH had some health issues recently so decided to cut back on work by 90% (he's self employed). We can now relax and sleep well at night knowing it's all ours. House is work about 650k.

I haven't even started paying a mortgage yet (pray I can in the future) but I really smiled at your lovely news. Congratulations!

Paradoes · 02/01/2025 21:33

Super achievement op .. delighted for you. Such a comfort

wishing you both the best of health and a very Happy New Year

LostittoBostik · 02/01/2025 21:34

Congratulations! A huge achievement.

Make sure you enjoy some of the money this first year too. Have a brilliant holiday.

I keep thinking about how if I'd stayed single and in my first flat I'd be almost done now but instead we still have 17 years to go on our current deal 🫠

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 02/01/2025 21:37

Congrats OPFlowers What an achievement and a relief.

Dh and you can now sleep the sleep of the mortgage-free.

wohmum · 02/01/2025 21:39

Congratulations- that’s fabulous!!

Spectre8 · 02/01/2025 21:42

Congratulations! Whay a relief and good timing too. Can focus on health and not worry about having to earn alot to cover the basics.

I'm starting my 5yr count down shortly. The light at the end of the tunnel is much bigger and I can't wait either.

I read somewhere that.paying of your mortgage isn't necessarily financial freedom its more power over money. I think that was a great way of putting it. Money no longer controls you or shapes your decisions. Of course you will still take it into account but other factors will now be able to have a bigger say in decisions.

DoYouReally · 02/01/2025 21:50

That's an amazing start to the New Year - congratulations.

Hopefully, more relaxed pace of life will help your husband significantly.

Congratulations fantastic achievement. We hope to be done in 3 years 🎉🎉

doneandone · 02/01/2025 22:36

Wow, congratulations op Flowers
We had our annual mortgage statement through the post today and have £121000 left to pay Shock
on the bright side, we have 2 years left at a really low interest rate of 1.86% instead of the 12 months I thought we had! Would love to overpay but paying for dc at uni so can't afford to pay any extra in to it right now.

SchoolNightWine · 02/01/2025 22:40

Congratulations! We have 3 payments left, so can understand your excitement.

Soontobe60 · 02/01/2025 22:42

We downsized a few years ago in order to pay off our mortgage early. Best decision we ever made!
