PREMIUM BONDS. APRIL 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2024 15:09

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1860 in prizes

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,860

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 3 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

White - main one with info 😄😄😄

Blue - those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

But I won last month and didn't show anything the day before so not sure it shows for all

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

Where does it show when there's something pending in the blue app ?

EatenEasterChocsAlready · 01/05/2024 16:53

@Jellybean85 so they found your old bond just thru dob and name

My name, dob and mothers name and dob.

Thanks all will confirm in the morning!!

Dearover · 01/05/2024 17:50

@solice84 Don't let it destroy your dreams tonight. I've never had a "pending" transaction shown and my prizes are automatically reinvested.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/05/2024 17:50

@Notsonifty50 same. The first time I cashed in which I think I did for mini blondes so for a good reason / but would have been my original ones 🥲

Thanks all. I can confirm it's total holdings listed not eligible holdings. I added £25 last week that wasn't eligible but showed in the total.

We have some big repairs coming up that we were going to have to raid our modest savings in PB to fund and now we're paid for !! Also a nice meal out this weekend 🎉

Handy to know so total

A huge congratulations to @Jellybean85 and I hope you have a fabulous meal out!

I hope the other MN's who are restrained enough not to look also have a big win!

Can I ask a really basic question? Been following this thread for a couple of days, just seen someone said you have to be in for a whole month to be in the draw. So if I buy some bonds today (I don't currently have any) would I be in for May? And is it possible eg can I open an account today? TIA

Best day to buy if the day before end of month so have the whole next month before in month after

has anyone got anything pending in their navy blue app yet? Can’t remember when that usually appears

It’s usually from 9pm (UK time).

Where does it show when there's something pending in the blue app ?

Usually starts around 10 but starts with the bigger wins. The other app catches up before the smaller wins show as pending.

Trumpton · 01/05/2024 18:00

DH’s 3x £1 bonds from 1967.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

We have both got nearly full holdings so get something most months. He has been luckier than me the last 6 months..(£650 for me and £1000 for him)

From one Jellybean to another @Jellybean85 - woo hoo!!! May the jelly magic come my way tonight 🤞🙏😜

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 01/05/2024 18:20

Are there prizes every month?
Also, am I best waiting til May 31st to open one now?

ajandjjmum · 01/05/2024 18:20

Fantastic @Jellybean85 - love seeing people on here win. Gives me hope!

When do any winnings show on the cream app? Will it be midnight?

minny80 · 01/05/2024 18:21

Rhoticity · 01/05/2024 14:11

so i have the list of my bonds which are for example

A1234567890 to A1234569000

do I have to look through all the bonds to see if mine appear?

Winning Bond NO.
400DT748739
400PJ306291
401TJ413151
401XJ119706
406GX900978

The way I understood it, your bond numbers will be in a range, for example, ABCDE0001 to ABCDE0025. If ABCDE0007 is extracted you win the corresponding price.
I had spare time this morning and made a script to compare my bond numbers with the winning list, I share the alphanumerical prefix (ie. ABCDE) with 5 winners in the list, but none of the extracted numbers is in my range 😑Hopefully I have still won some of the smaller prices, as I didn't win last month!

KohlaParasaurus · 01/05/2024 18:24

Yes the prize draw happens every month.

Your Bonds will need to have been invested by 31st May in order to take part in the July draw, but I wouldn’t leave it that late. I’d be buying them around 20th to make sure it all clears through in time.

DaydreamerBetty · 01/05/2024 19:18

Congratulations @Jellybean85
What fantastic timing! 😀

RudolfsLeftToe · 01/05/2024 19:31

I’ve only got the navy app, has this updated for anyone else yet? I’m not expecting to win as I’ve not got much in there, DH has full holdings though and we are obviously going to win big before we have to decimate it for our house deposit in the next couple of months.

ThePoshUns · 01/05/2024 19:32

Nice one @Jellybean85 , fingers crossed for the rest of us

Ellie525 · 01/05/2024 19:52

Just set up PB for little one (grand total of 25 quid lol!) Just wondering is it like a Junior ISA where soon as they turn 18 they can access the money? (Obviously hoping it will be more than 25 quid by then!!)

FreakInTheSheets · 01/05/2024 20:03

Evening all. I was quite lucky last month and got £100 on £9.5k holdings.

I could really do with a couple of quid this month as vet bills are clearing me out right now. (I've checked the spreadsheet and not expecting any high value prizes)

FreakInTheSheets · 01/05/2024 20:09

I do think it's a bit crap, in this day and age, that we have to faff around with a spreadsheet and then an app 24 hrs after the draw and then an email a day or two after that. It should be like the lottery and the results are instant.
