PREMIUM BONDS. APRIL 2024

1000 replies

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2024 15:09

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1860 in prizes

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,860

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 3 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

White - main one with info 😄😄😄

Blue - those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

But I won last month and didn't show anything the day before so not sure it shows for all

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

£150 on 8k. Need to log in and check if DS has anything, he's on 21k so fingers crossed he has won something.

Nothing again on £7.5k. That's a year with no wins now (though I got a proportionately big win a year ago so wasn't bothered until now).
I must be due a win next month...

This was me I hadn’t won for ages on a smaller amount and then twice in a row! I was fed up which is silly as I’ve only small amount in there but realised it’s the long game really….

doodles55 · 03/04/2024 08:23

£150 on FH
very glad to see a win after reading how some of you have received zero onFH 😏
good luck to all in next draw

PeanutAndBanana · 03/04/2024 08:33

Nothing on full holdings. But I won £300 last month and £1500 the month before so onwards and upwards!

Eaumyword · 03/04/2024 08:34

£800-our biggest win so far! Delighted with that.
Pleased for you @Blondeshavemorefun and everyone else who has won.

NewYearNewJob2024 · 03/04/2024 08:35

My first ever win - £25! I am chuffed!
I only have £400 (it was £600 last month but took £200 out). I started buying small chunks of £25 in early 2020 but due to house renovation I sort of stopped. But then discovered this thread and my aim is to buy in bigger chunks every now and again- aiming to buy a £1000 chunk once a year! Would love to get to FH one day!
Anyway, I love reading this thread! Congrats to all the winners and here's hoping for some big wins in the near future!

OublietteBravo · 03/04/2024 08:41

Nothing on about £5k. I really miss having FH and winning most months!

leafybrew · 03/04/2024 08:43

£50 prize this month on £20k holding.

Well done @Blondeshavemorefun !! super

Also congrats to @Eaumyword

Livinghappy · 03/04/2024 08:43

£100 on FH, better than nothing and I had a good win last month.

Each bond has an equal chance of winning. 1 of your 250 bonds has the same luck as 1 of my 10000 bonds.

I don't think that's accurate logic as regards an individual bond holder's chances of winning though.

individually each bond has the same chance of winning, but someone holding £250 worth of bonds does not have anywhere near the same chance of winning than someone holding £10,000 worth of bonds.

ZellyFitzgerald · 03/04/2024 08:48

I know it's a controversial view, but I am wondering whether there's something to having a large block versus lots of small amounts.....

I had about £9k made up of £25s and £50s. I hadn't won anything since the summer, so i withdrew it all in January and got one large block. The first month it was eligible was March and I won £100. April was the second month and I've just won another £100.

Of course it's all luck but it makes me wonder, as I seem to do better when the same amount is in one lump rather than scattered.

Sunshineandpinkclouds · 03/04/2024 08:48

£300 on 2 FH (DD and me) so not a bad month.

ooooohnoooooo · 03/04/2024 08:48

Morning £150 for me on FH so they are coming out !

Backinthedress · 03/04/2024 09:04

Bugger all for me since I had to withdraw 5k. Still got about 7k in there, but had no luck in the last couple of months.

Will have to keep fingers crossed for the new job I interviewed for last week instead. Would prefer the bonds win!

Parky04 · 03/04/2024 09:05

£125 for me & £200 for OH. Both on FH.

DeepfriedPizza · 03/04/2024 09:06

£50 here. well done winners

sashagabadon · 03/04/2024 09:07

Nothing for me!

I’ve won of blocks of £25 and £50….. also won off a block of 2k. I don’t think that it matters tbh but someone on here is doing an experiment to see..

Coastalcreeksider · 03/04/2024 09:08

This time last year, I had only £3,500 and won in April a total of £625.

Now on almost FH, I've won a grand total of around £550 since December which included getting nothing for March this year.

I live in hope of a big win every month and get way too excited when each draw is imminent. I really need to get out more I think ...😂😆

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2024 09:11

@Uninspiredusername for £17 interest a month I would move your savings to pb

Bet you would win £25 a Month

I have £10,00 holdings am re-investing my winnings. Does it seem better to have your holdings in one chunk or does it not make any difference? Thanks.

Well @OneFrenchEgg was doing an eggsperiment ......

@Flatleak us at the moment - having a really bad run. This is our 3rd year of holding, for the first couple of years prizes fluctuated but we got more or less the interest rate over a span of a year. Since December on FH we’ve had 3 months with no prizes and £225 in total. Down about £800 on what we’d have got in an isa, but we have to presume our luck will be better soon! Ironically I’ve never felt the benefit of the increased prize rates - that’s when our dry spell started 🤣

Edited

Where for me seemed better luck winning

But I must have used luck up now so sure May def won't win

Nothing here but adult DS has won £525. Unsure of holding (but deffo not FH). My mum (FH) has £25.

Re the bigger prizes announced yesterday....how do you check those? Have a list of your PB numbers? (apols if glaringly obvious but have been unable to work out quicker way)

Go down list to find your location

Look to left and see the amount winner has in total

If same as your total look to right and see when bought and how many

OneFrenchEgg · 03/04/2024 09:19

@Blondeshavemorefun I hate to say it but in 21 months I won under £500 and since Jan I've won £175. Have to see how it goes.
