£75 on £45k invested

WimbyAce · 03/12/2023 10:46

Just £50 this month. Total £875 for the year so not too bad.

wheresmyshoe · 03/12/2023 12:02

Thank you for the new thread. It was these threads that inspired me to get premium bonds.

willingtolearn · 03/12/2023 12:32

£75 this month 2% across the whole year. Will be moving some as there are better options available at the moment.

Not everyone is great at maths. I had a brain fart when trying to work mine out, so I just asked Google and it did the maths for me!

I used to be pretty good at maths when I was younger, but now I don't do stuff like that often, combined with peri-menopausal/thyroid brain fog means I can't remember how to do stuff. But I don't need to seeing as I can just ask Google.

I've won about £1,800 this year. £400 last month which was my biggest prize this year and £50 this month. I win usually every month with 50K.

In 2007, before the financial crash I won 10K one month. So I've always loved PB's.

Midlifecrisisat38 · 03/12/2023 13:53

When I did my last lot of PB 's in 2007, I had 5K × 6. So it was still full amount back then which was 30K. I seem to remember winning several 100 each month. Now I have FH but they're not grouped together in 5K anymore.

I wonder if this makes a difference with how much you win and is it a big difference.

Are you lucky

Brumbies · 03/12/2023 15:06

There are some seriously nasty people on mumsnet

I wonder why I stay tbh

I too wonder about this. Next year I’m going to buy a few blocks in £1K amounts and buy a few blocks in £50 amounts to see what happens.

I know it doesn't feel right, because our brains are wired to find patterns, but it literally does not make a difference. The machine chooses numbers at random and has no "knowledge" of the size of the group each bond is in.

cupcakes12blossom · 03/12/2023 16:16

I've just checked and my £100 win this month came from a £25 bond, my £25 win in October from a £575 bond and my £50 win in September from a £35 bond. I've never had a win from my highest value bond (£2,000).

What I like about this thread usually is everyone seems really nice, friendly and encouraging. Not everyone is comfortable with working out maths and surely it's better to ask the question and learn something. We should be here to help each other, not to put others down. No-one can do everything after all.

MercyChant66 · 03/12/2023 16:23

Zero for me again on FH. I've never had a December/Christmas win and am currently on under 1% interest so of course I really should just cash them in...

GeneCity · 03/12/2023 16:24

Agree with what others have said - the only stupid Q is the Q that you didn't ask 🙂.

I think I've done OK with my PBs over the last few years, but I was adding to them over this time, so it wouldn't be particularly easy to work out. And now I'm doing the opposite, and I've taken a big chunk out 😄.

I would love one day to be at full holdings and winning regularly - all that passive income regularly getting deposited into my bank account, the holding never going down, knowing you could win big day - what a fabulous position to be in! I’m so envious of some of you.

Believe me, it doesn't always work out this way. I've had full holdings for years and am much more likely to win nothing or maybe £25 on a good month. Nothing again for me this month... Everyone else here seems to be much luckier!

hellswelshy · 03/12/2023 16:29

Marking for January draw! As stated on previous thread I won £100 this month on £15k and dh had £50 win on approximately £5k. So happy with that. Fingers crossed for the new year ✨️

You're very kind. Thanks for that - restores my faith.

Starseeking · 03/12/2023 18:05

Well I’ve bumped my £14, held since 1956, up to £214 in time for January’s draw.

Encouraging to see a £2 bond from November 1956 has just won £10k. It would be nice if the results indicated whether (and when) bonds have been lucky in the past.
