@benfoldsfivefan I've had savings plus £5k with Halifax for over 2 years, and never won a penny.

Madcats · 04/09/2023 05:50

Well done to all the winners. We're sulking here in Casa Madcats. Zero wins!

WhatHaveIFound · 04/09/2023 08:56

£100 for me and £300 for DH. We both have £40k holdings.

GasPanic · 04/09/2023 09:51

Good result. Won more in one month (£750) than I have ever won in a year (5 years of full holdings) and already in 2023 more than 2020+2021+2022 combined.

The increased interest rates are really showing up.

We have full holdings x2 and do relatively well month to month but are now tempted by the new fixed rate bond NS&i have issued - 1yr fix at 6.2%. That's a great rate, but obviously taxable unlike premium bonds. Anyone else considering it?

I'm going to switch to it, or similar, once the year is out, for 50% of my holdings.

I started the year with 28k, now on almost 40k, but even if you skip the 10k prize, I've managed a great % on my first 28k.

So my order of precedence goes:

Half holding premium bonds
ISA/LISA
Remainder into NSANDI/tax paying bond.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/09/2023 10:21

I'm Too scared to take out. Seem to be on a winning streak

Plus I do love the thrill of what if .......

Have won more on a few thousand then when I had £35k in there 8yrs ago

Drained pb for extension and ivf and mini blondes (best investment I ever made tho she actually costs me money rather then make it) 😂😂

They have more entertainment value than other investments, but the return on them isn't great.

I can see how if you are coming up month after month with no prizes with large holdings it is hard to hold on to them, especially when there is decent money to be made elsewhere.

KohlaParasaurus · 04/09/2023 10:45

I've committed a small dollop of cash that was sitting in a savings account at a lower interest rate to the one year fix at 6.2%. I'll keep the PBs for now because the tax free element mitigates some of the risk for me (this is the first time since back when interest on savings was taxed at source that I've had to think about this) and also because since I got my PCLS earlier this year I've made a couple of deposits into fixed rate savings accounts at interest rates that looked spectacularly good in comparison with previous rates only to have mild regret a couple of months later as prevailing interest rates have continued to rise.

DH has either forgotten about "his" PBs or decided to put his £50 prize into his running away fund and not mention it🤐I'll remind him to check the app today.

I have just about got over the excitement of winning 10k and have made a spreadsheet to calculate a normalised rate of interest on them (treating the big win as if it were an at-best average win), but my primitive hind brain goes "big win happen again soon".

Ohmylovejune · 04/09/2023 14:16

I'm the same.

I compartmentalised the big win but when I swipe I still believe a big one might be on the end, knowing it once was.

I also feel morally obligated to leave it in even if I don't win loads so others gain.

CatMattress · 04/09/2023 15:53

Won nothing. Again. Am seriously considering either moving it all or, at the very least, not putting any more in and adding any new funds to a new savings account. Who's got best interest atm?

daisychain01 · 04/09/2023 17:10

Does anyone know if there's a deadline on the 6.2% Bond?

is it relatively pain free to subscribe to it. ns&I isn't the best in term of its IT - rather clunky ....

Ohmylovejune · 04/09/2023 19:06

@CatMattress

It's changing all the time..depends if you want instant access or not, and if you've got your ISA allowance still available for this year.

Parky04 · 04/09/2023 19:46

A measly £25 on FH for me, but £400 on FH for DP.

CaveMum · 04/09/2023 22:23

@daisychain01 someone said on the MSE forum that as Government spending was high in July they need to raise a large amount of capital, so are unlikely pull the 6.2% bond in a hurry. That’s not to say it will hang around indefinitely but it’s probably not going anywhere until at least the next BoE rate announcement, I’d guess.

I had issues buying the bonds last week, but that was a Mastercard limit rather than NS&I related - we don’t have an NS&I savings account to move money through so only option was to buy the bonds via debit card.

blitzen · 04/09/2023 22:49

£100 for me this month!

PrimaniTu · 05/09/2023 06:34

£100 for me this month. Very pleased.

Cotswoldbee · 05/09/2023 11:59

£450 on FH this month so another one that isn't too bad.
Haven't worked out the percentage but think it is going well this year.

neveragainagain · 05/09/2023 18:28

I just won £1550! Five separate wins for this month. I am DELIGHTED! It's just paid for our holiday (got back yesterday).
