Benefit cap

Hi there. Trying again as I haven’t seemed to have gotten an answer, so I applied for the benefit cap to be lifted a while back due to being in an abusive relationship during the time of my youngests conception. I've recently recieved a message saying they've overturned their decision and i will be exempt from the benefit cap from August 2019. Has anyone else had this? Will the money be backdated? If so does it take long? Many thanks

@TwinklyOliveHare Have you been on UC since before your 4yr old was born? If so, then Child Element should be backdated to when the Child was first added.

If you moved over to UC after your 4yr old was born, but were receiving a different benefit prior to UC (such as Tax Credits) then you'd need to contact them to consider revision of previous awards.

@TwinklyOliveHare That's very quick to receive any back pay? I second @8dayweek were you on a different benefit before 2 years ago? Although congratulations - that's a life changing amount of money already and much more than most people will receive.

When I got mine quite a bit was taken off, it's to do with the cap and hours worked and to be honest I don't fully understand but I'm so grateful I got anything I didn't ask too many questions.
And to be fair to them, the back pay was given practically as soon as it was confirmed as owed.
