DH & I got married a few months ago mainly for security & next of kins reasons. Alot of people don't even know we are married as it makes no difference to us at all. So, I have kept my name. we have just had our wills rewritten because of marrying (by my dad- that was his job pre retiring) and i notive that he has written: ' this is the last will and testament of......and given my DH's surname and then written (also known as.... - my name). Is this right? Am I now ....Dh's name aka my name or is it my Dad being old-fashioned? I need to get facts straight before tackling him!

Ah MP - yes yours do have an extra element of both names appearing. Niece has completely different surname from mother or stepfather and is travelling on foreign passport. Hence the problems!

Hmmm, I didn't change my name, and my DSes have their father's surname (he's more fond of his surname than I am of mine).

I have only travelled to Canada with one DS without DH, and I took a copy of a birth certificate, and a letter from DH saying I was ok to travel. The Canadian passport people did ask to see the letter. (It wasn't notarised or anything, so had no legal value, but never mind. )

But Canada is notably freaky about this kind of thing.

I'm still amazed atte number of people (admittedly, usualy older PIL-type people) who woory aboutwhat other people clal them selves and how they are going to cope with it.
I have people say thing like "But, what should I put on a letter when I write to you?" - my nswer is you can out anything you like a I'll probably open it anyway - unless DS3 gets there first and eats it

I think PILs get all huffy that you don't wnt to be part of their family or something - very peculiar
