Thank you @BarbaraofSeville - that was a helpful explanation.

Does anyone know if there is a way of linking my old Premium Bonds to the on-line ones I bought in the Autumn ?

WellWhyNot · 28/04/2021 22:44

Hi all,

I’ve been watching this thread with interest for a few months since buying some Premium Bonds - would be good to join you all :)

Thanks Smile.

But I can't answer your question about linking old and new bonds. I have a very small amount I've had since a child and also the ones I've bought as an adult, that are on separate holding number.

I did try linking them once and wrote to NS&I with all my details of the old and new ones, including address that the old ones might still be registered at and they replied to say they couldn't do anything 'because the signature didn't match that one previously supplied' which would have been when I was about 8 years old Hmm.

They did offer a solution involving form filling and officially witnessed signatures but I CBA dealing with that, but I do have both holding numbers in my app on separate tabs, so I can see that the old ones have never won and will know if they do, even if they don't have the correct details and the prize goes off into the ether.

BackforGood · 29/04/2021 22:29

Ooh, thanks. I'll have to investigate that.

The one I had as a Christening present in the early 60s ( Grin ), has never won anything I expect it is holding out for the million but the ones my dc had (late 1990s) and a couple of hundred ££s worth I bought for myself at that time, we've only ever had a cheque through the post. Will have to look in to how to get them notifying us on-line.

bouncydog · 30/04/2021 05:40

@BackforGood go online to national savings premium bonds. Loads of information on there. I wrote to them giving them old addresses etc. I got a letter back detailing all bond holdings going back to 1950’s. I was also provided with my new holders number and could sign up for online services. You go online to purchase new bonds. Have the app set up on my iPad so I can check every month to see what we have won. A bit of legwork to start with but really easy thereafter.

Pleasebe2022 · 30/04/2021 12:17

Today's is the day for notifications to the big winners isnt it? I keep checking for the winning email 😀

BackforGood · 30/04/2021 13:47

That would be NICE!! It's surely my turn? 🌹

bouncydog · 30/04/2021 14:50

I thought the draws for all prizes were 2nd working day of the month?

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/04/2021 16:32

They seem to be drawn last day of month to contact big winners

Then we can see big winner results day before announced on app

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/04/2021 17:48

I had a lovely dream a few nights ago that I won 1m, but refused to believe it til I had the cash in my bank account. I woke up before that happened though!

rosesarered321 · 01/05/2021 20:32

On lovemoney it says the big winners are informed the day before the first working day of the month, so there's still hope 🤞.

DS 13 is a bit of a saver and now has 1k in his current account. I was thinking of talking to him about buying £750 of premium bonds as I thought he might enjoy it. Is there an app where you can track if you win? Although I am assuming that with only £750 it would be a slim chance of winning?

Hollyhead · 02/05/2021 09:32

No I wouldn’t @alrightfella the chances of winning with that size of holding would be minimal. I wouldn’t consider Premium Bonds for anything less than 20k.

alrightfella · 02/05/2021 09:43

@Hollyhead ok thank you, I did wonder if it was too small an amount. Would you suggest he just leaves it in his current account then?

Really ?

I don’t have £20k and win here and there

Do it

It’s the thrill of might win

Yes won’t get interest but doubt he gets much a year anyway in £1k

And yes download ns&i app to check

MSE has a prediction section where you put in how much you want to invest and can give an idea of what you may win.

I get about the same as I would in interest.

I just opened dd a monthly savers with halifax. .currently paying 3.5% better than a current account
Hollyhead · 02/05/2021 14:55

@Blondeshavemorefun you might still win here and there but you’re unlikely to match what you’d get in interest. Someone who’s had £1000 in premium bonds for 20years will have had a significantly worse return than someone who’s kept it in the highest paying instant access savings account for that time.

FiveShelties · 03/05/2021 07:02

Last month I had 2 @ 25 on 6K and DH had nothing on 6250. I am hoping for the big one this month.

Good Luck everyone
