Monsoon in Leeds has shut down

Monsoon has shut down in Leeds. I think the retail sector is in real decline if Monsoon has to close in a vibrant city like Leeds.
The other week I had to go to Nottingham and as I was walking round the centre it just felt sad with one closed high street shop after another.

I agree the retail sector is in decline, online shopping is a bigger market. But Monsoon has a very niche clientele and would always suffer in today’s marketplace. They didn’t adapt and now are suffering

Largeyellowdaffodil · 23/02/2020 13:44

There used to be 2 of them,

DaisyDando · 23/02/2020 13:50

The Monsoon in Milton Keynes shopping centre has also closed...

JellyfishandShells · 23/02/2020 13:52

And Kingston upon Thames - big one there, very suddenly. It was very quiet lately, though, and the January sale reductions were barely worth it.

ChelseaCat · 23/02/2020 13:53

And Ealing Broadway!

Isabellaswann · 23/02/2020 13:54

Monsoon was gorgeous in the 90s and early 2000s. Now I can afford it there’s hardly ever anything that I like.

HerculesMulligan · 23/02/2020 13:58

There hasn't been one in central Manchester for a few years now.

Longdistance · 23/02/2020 14:04

My local one has closed too.

Tbh, I only ever go in there when there’s a sale. It’s overpriced for stuff I can get online cheaper.

This is a sympton of the high street in chaos ! A well known Store in our town has closed down(Beales in Bournemouth) been there for ever. And no M and S either ,So holidaymakers may have their work cut out if they want to go shopping at all! Most people buy online, and the parking charges plus having to walk around in the wet/cold, with pushchairs /umbrellas and so on ,plus the joy of finding out they dont have your size after all doesnt really inspire confidence !

ListeningQuietly · 23/02/2020 14:26

THey are known as the Ostrich retailers
many many stores have not adapted to the new normal
thousands will close over the next couple of years

FredaFox · 23/02/2020 14:26

The one in stoke has recently closed too.

JoyceDivision · 23/02/2020 14:36

When Gap closed in Leeds AND Birstall it was a concern as it should manage to hold one retail space of the two... There are a few empty spots in Leeds now. I just zip in to the hairdressers and back out now.

camrose · 23/02/2020 15:23

Monsoon gone in Guildford too...

ssd · 23/02/2020 15:26

I hope monsoon isn't in trouble, I like them.

They must be closing stores that don't perform well.

Eve · 23/02/2020 15:28

Gone in Southampton as well.

RuggyPeg · 23/02/2020 15:32

I don't think it's a sign of the high street in chaos at all. I think it's a sign of a fashion retailer who sells clothes that people aren't inspired to buy.

bingbangbing · 23/02/2020 15:33

Very sad for the job losses.

Monsoon is incredibly over priced though.

strawberrylipgloss · 23/02/2020 15:35

Monsoon haven't changed their business in order to survive so I'm not surprised that they've gone out of business.

strawberrylipgloss · 23/02/2020 15:35

Not gone out of business I mean struggling with business

fairydustandpixies · 23/02/2020 15:37

It's closed here too. It had a shared retail space with Accessorise and they've both gone.

Casino218 · 23/02/2020 15:39

Yesterday I went looking for a suit for my DH. Shop after shop just didn't seem to stock average sizes. M&S was the worst. Debenhams just felt bleak. Next was the best but even that wasn't great.
What will city and town centres replace these shops with I wonder? Will it all be cafes s and coffee shops?

Monks Cross closed as well. I think that Harrogate is still open.

IndigoApple · 23/02/2020 15:41

My local Accessorize has just closed too 😢. But not altogether surprising as the shop was always empty.

Thesearmsofmine · 23/02/2020 15:45

Is the one are White Rose still open? I haven’t been there for ages.

nitgel · 23/02/2020 15:46

We have a big one at London Colney that's also closed
