Monsoon in Leeds has shut down

Monsoon has shut down in Leeds. I think the retail sector is in real decline if Monsoon has to close in a vibrant city like Leeds.
The other week I had to go to Nottingham and as I was walking round the centre it just felt sad with one closed high street shop after another.

And the one in Henley...didn’t see any advance notice of it either and pretty sure it was open a week or so back when I drove through 🤔

Not sure who Monsoon is aimed at now, 15-20 years ago I bought a lot from them, now there's a lot of awful, frumpy stuff in there.

There is a MASSIVE oversupply of retail space of all sorts.
In Southampton there are two massive redevelopments on hold (East Street and Bargate) because the builders know that they will not be able to let the retail space.
West Quay 2 have still not found a tenant for the corner spot that had been allocated to Jamie's
Main West Quay has several empty units
Marlands has LOADS of empty units
and the cafes and bars and restaurants are all struggling

just wait till the Student boom peaks and all those units are empty as well ....

There’s still one at the white rose.

Monsoon in Dundee and St Andrews have also closed down.

Big river island in Bloomsbury shut suddenly. Was on Oxford street a few days ago and it really didn’t feel good. All shops empty and couldn’t find any of what I wanted. Hmmm

Monsoon are offering their landlords zero rent
if the landlord says no, the shop shuts

Monsoon left Dundee years ago. We only have accessorise.

OP - Next is pretty crap but they offer next day delivery if you order before midnight which I suspect makes them a lot of money. Argos is also in a competitive market but they offer same-day delivery on many items so they often get my business too.
Monsoon needed to adjust to a change in the market.15+ years ago their designs were a cut above the other shops but the shops look exactly the same as 15 years ago and you can get the same sort of clothing at John Lewis, Cath Kidston and the other kids boutiques that are in the same centre as my local Monsoon. The cheaper shops have stepped their game up massively and I would look in places like the supermarkets for occasion wear

I miss the monsoon outlet at J32 retail park, used to get some lovely things there for more reasonable prices than the main shops. Sadly I think there are just too many shops for what is needed these days. Internet shopping has reduced demand and there's been a big expansion into out of town shopping.

I wonder if they could convert some of the city centre shops to other uses, whether services like hairdressers or other grooming, commercial, leisure or even residential?
