Help! Refused credit , no money

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:22

Hello,
Urgently seeking advice. I work but have been left in a situation where I have no money whatsoever until the last day of the month:
I have emergency on gas and electric and little food in the house.

I've contacted the council , csa, credit unions and all have been unable to help because I am not classed as urgent because I am employed. Existing credit rating from ex partner has left me with a zero chance of lending a

I have no family who are able to help and my only friend is on holiday.
I feel like I'm in the middle of a nervous break down and don't know where to turn.

Can anyone suggest what I can do with regard to my finance!

My local food bank is 13 miles away and I do not drive. I'm so anxious I don't even feel like I can leave the house. Please help.

this website lists pay as you feel cafes in your area. Also, if you get in touch with your local church they would sort you out with a food parcel (our church would) and they will be able to put you in touch with organisations where free food is served in your area throughout the week with no referrals needed.

Phosphorus · 05/08/2017 16:42

Well your only option is to ask a work colleague, or google Churches or the CAB.

There are no magical solutions.

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:42

Reallly really appreciate everyone's ideas thank you so much for the help.

I'm in the middle of trying to contact local churches to see if they are available to help.

Provident loan will be my second option

Who would have thought strangers on the internet would boost hard times, feel 100 times better already, maybe there is a way out after all

She'll have her phone op, if you can't use yours ask a neighbour if you can borrow theirs.

Or FB her on your laptop?

Use it to see where your nearest church is?

There will be tons of payday loan places, christ if my bankrupt uncle can get one you can! Not ideal but if you're really stuck its an option until you can get hold of your friend who might loan you the money to pay it off quicker

MrsMotherHen · 05/08/2017 16:44

put the laptop in cash converters on buy back basis.

AdaColeman · 05/08/2017 16:48

If there is a Sikh temple in your town they may provide a free daily meal.

GahBuggerit · 05/08/2017 16:48

I know Freddy, what rotten luck :( especially as you say the only friend being away with absolutely no method of anyone contacting them at all. In this day and age. Technology has its limits it seems, even with hotels having WiFi.

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:49

GahBuggerit

Do you happen to know which payday loan company your uncle used. I am being declined everywhere to date other than guarantor loan facilities. Tia

milk and more would also be another option, if it's just a cash flow problem and you will have money at the end of the month. You can buy groceries that are delivered by a milkman and you pay monthly.

differenteverytime · 05/08/2017 16:50

If you leave a message for your friend on whatever social media she uses (FB or whatever), then she might get into a place where there's wifi. Even if she doesn't get it straight away it's another thing to try.

AdaColeman · 05/08/2017 16:51

What store cupboard food do you have? Post a list, and you will get lots of advice on making it go as far as possible.

GahBuggerit · 05/08/2017 16:58

No idea op, knowing him he would have just googled payday loan bad credit and rang the first be, he's pretty lazy so he wouldn't have tried many.

The other solution that you could start now would be to do a free trial in the credit rating agencies like Experian/Equifax and have his details removed from your credit file.

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 16:59

Order a Tesco shop..I find they don't take the money till days later..very frustrating, but it might help you,go back to yr bank and ask for temporary overdraft.or open 0% credit card..or see what direct debits you could cancel ...the Salvation Army will help you ,they are amazing near us

demurelyblue · 05/08/2017 17:01

Sympathies OP.

Is the car a 'must'?

differenteverytime · 05/08/2017 17:02

Also, how long is your friend away for? As you mentioned her in your OP could we assume that she'll help you when she gets home from holiday? Even if she's away for a fortnight and left yesterday, that's nearly halved the time you'll have to cope with this. It might help a bit psychologically at least to keep that in mind?

Bettercallsaul1 · 05/08/2017 17:02

How much do you actually need to get to pay day? What kind of terms are you on with your neighbours? If you are at all friendly with them, I would brace myself and ask if they could possibly lend you a tenner until the end of the month. Ask several if necessary to keep the amounts small. Explain the situation and it would be a very cold-hearted (or broke themselves!) person who would turn you down. If you are really in extremis, this might be your last resort.

MouseholeCat · 05/08/2017 17:02

Check out apps like Olio for free food within walking distance of home/work. Might be a long shot if you aren't in at least a semi-urban areas.

When I've been really, really skint I've dumpster dived- sounds gross, but it really wasn't and I saw plenty of people in suits doing the same thing!! Might not be for you, but there's plenty of resources online to help.

You can also do as many surveys on Qmee as possible to get some money together and into your account- it cashes out instantly into your bank account. Might just be £2 or something, but that can buy you bread, beans, milk, pasta and oats in an emergency. There are other similar sites you can use too.

SpartacusSaiman · 05/08/2017 17:06

A friend of mine used morses club. But not sure that will get you through til payday.

Call your energy provider and ask to speak to thei discretionary credit team. They will be able to loan you an amount to top up and then you pay it back through your meter each week.

Floralnomad · 05/08/2017 17:07

Can you get some local bar work of an evening .

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 17:09

You guys have really been so helpful thank you!

I'm going to try churches and milk and more for food

contact energy provider for discretionary credit

Everything else doesn't matter and can be sorted at a later date. I've left a message with my friend so fingers crossed she will also pick up the message

Really really appreciate all your kind comments and suggestions

Dont panic.
Go through your cupboards fridge etc and we will help you meal plan.
Dont switch your machines on they will eat your electric.
Provident isnt ideal but is always an option.
Where are you? Local mumsnetters may know of local options.

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 17:13

Gowgirl

I have some frozen veg, pack of bananas , two tins of tomatoes , 1 tin of beans , a pack of pasta and some frozen quorn chicken:

I'm thinking bananas for breakfast and some made up pasta dish for lunch/ dinner. Don't think it will last a month but I can ration :) won't hurt to loose a few pounds

Floral, I don't think applying for a second job, which might not exist locally, which she may or may not even get, and would still have to wait a month to get paid from, is going to help when she has no money at all right now.

OP if all other previously suggested options have been exhausted you may have to get one of those payday loans with a crazy interest rate, just borrow a small amount that you can afford to pay back with interest when you get paid. Those types of loans are a last resort but maybe you will need to get one just this once.

I hope things work out for you Flowers

Check coats handbags the back of the settee and under the seats in the car.
Cash is king here, small change even will help

MouseholeCat · 05/08/2017 17:19

For extra food, don't forget it's a good time of year for blackberry and elderberry picking:

There's also this website with info on where you can forage fruit from fruit trees in parks:
