It was on the 6pm news on bbc1, they say you can launch something with some advisors if you don't get your money back, i forget what the body was called though. Hopefully it will be on a later news

mad4simon · 16/10/2006 20:10

The thing that is really annoying, is that the directors of Farepak knew they were in trouble but have waited until now, until calling in the administrators. In other words , virtually everyone would have had their accounts paid up. The vouchers were due to be sent out in the next few weeks. Great timing isn't it. I have lost money, but i feel for those people who are in a worse position than myself. I have promised my son certain presents this xmas, and i will make sure he gets regardless.

pebblemum · 16/10/2006 20:10

I just wanted to say how disgusted i am by Farepak. My neighbour heard a rumour at the beginning of the year that they were having problems and were likely to go into liquidation, she had only paid in £40 at that point and cancelled it. She told many of her friends some of whom listened but many thought it was unlikely as Farepak were still trading openly. There was no official news and over the year everyone thought that my neighbour had been wrong. Now it turns out that Farepak have waited until they have got as much money from their customers that they could and then just closed with no warning.

I feel so sorry for the many people who have invested their hard earned money into Farepak. We use companies like them to help ease the burden of christmas and now many people have lost their only method of having a good christmas. Its disgusting that they wont get their money back. Im very and for all those who have lost out.

mad4simon · 16/10/2006 20:28

Unfortunately other companies who run similar schemes to farepak, will loose alot of custom now. No way will i risk doing this agin.

saffy202 · 16/10/2006 20:31

I've lost £225. First time I've joined up and only did it because one of my friend's at work was the agent. She was nearly crying today when she found out the news. I think it is the timing of it which sucks the most. I personally believe it is theft and I feel so sorry for others who really needed the money and for whom Christmas is spoilt

jambuttie · 17/10/2006 16:13

maggymay · 17/10/2006 16:35

moneysavingexpert.com thread link. I thought this might be useful to some of you.

pebblemum · 17/10/2006 20:35

A friend of mine has been considering taking out a loan (getting herself into debt) just to help repay some of her customers. Some of them have been really nasty to her, demanding their money. I know its horrible but it wasnt her fault, she hasnt run off with their money yet they are making her feel really guilty, as if she doesnt feel bad enough for introducing them to the scheme already

agalch · 18/10/2006 07:45

Pebblemum i'm [shocked] at your friends customers. My agent is away on holiday atm and presumably hasn't heard the news and i am gutted for her too. It's not her fault but no doubt some people will give her a hard time anyway.

Latest news is some of us may get 10 pence in the pound back.Wooohooo that'll really help us next year.

zippitippitoes · 18/10/2006 08:16

I find it unbelievable that they have declared this just as everyon's accounts are paid up, that is criminal (I hope it is anyway)

The big boss in this company is a former chairman of the CBI too

comrie53 · 18/10/2006 16:15

My family has lost £1,200 with Farepak and including my friends it goes up to £3,500. If the management team of Farepak have nothing to hide (which I don't believe for a minute) then one of them in particular the M.D. should sit on the sofa of GMTV or any other new programme and explain exactly what's happened instead of hiding behind the skirts of the administration team. I don't know how they people can sleep at night as they knew exactly what they were doing keeping people sending in money even although they knew they were insolvent. They are a bunch of cowards and crooks and should be jailed. In a week's time this will be old news, they will get away with it because that's what this country is all about and we will go on to have a merry christmas - not.

jambuttie · 18/10/2006 16:31

)))))))))))HUGS(((((((((( comrie sorry to hear that you too were one of the people who lost out

I agree they should face the people they clearly have ripped off

notasheep · 18/10/2006 16:44

Another scam by the sound of it

Kidstrack · 18/10/2006 16:49

its also annoying that Choice went bust in June who are connected to Farepak but they still took the money until now when they already knew the whole company were going under.

littlemadam · 18/10/2006 17:57

So sorry to hear about this. There was a programme on the radio yeaterday and they said it was the worst possible time, when people had paid nearly everything, and would receive nothing. What a miserable thing to happen.

debs71 · 18/10/2006 17:57

I have just found out in work today that i have lost £300. I am a single parent with three children aged 16,10 and 5 months. Its certainly not going to be a merry xmas for many a family this year

comrie53 · 18/10/2006 20:21

I am so sorry Debs17 that you have just found out about this. Its heartbreaking to hear everyone's terrible story. I have been in touch with my MP to take up the case for everyone but so far have heard nothing (no surprise there!)I have never been in favour of the death penalty before now and can't believe I'm even typing it but feel so strongly about what has happened I believe Farepak management team deserve it. Everytime you speak to someone you hear yet another tragic story. I will never do anything like this again even though I have been an agent for the last 5 years - been the only time I had actually saved for Christmas. I just feel so helpless.

misdee · 18/10/2006 20:24

this is so so terrible. i havent ever dealt with farepak, but have got vouchers through park before. this has made many people very wary. i mean farepak was a well established company, who have been running for years. how can they do this to people?

maggymay · 20/10/2006 11:27

farepak have now updated their web site and you can now use a claim line to phone them. I hope that we get something back but it doesnt look good please contact your mp and ask them to help stop this happening again

Max Clifford was on the BBC's Working Lunch programme today giving advice on what could be done may be worth watching them next week as well or looking at their website theyve been following what;s been happening at farepak all week as well

agalch · 23/10/2006 19:08

Anyone see the latest? Saw an article in the Sunday Mail about the Farepak thingy.(i have lost 700)

The article heading is "Goodwill hope for farepak customers"

No details were revealed but maybe we will get something back in time for Christmas eh?

Can't do clever things like links but has anyone else seen the paper or heard anything?

rustycreakingdoorbear · 23/10/2006 20:21

here
I heard something about it on Radio 5 breakfast, but no more details than this link

cozippy · 28/10/2006 15:31
