...PLease, please, please. I think I've been a vicitm of fraud.

Received a statmenet from HSBC last week. DP and I were both a bit baffled as we both closed our accounts with them years ago, but brushed it off and shredded it.

Justy checked my emails and have one from HSBC saying that someone has tried to access our accout (don't know whether mine, his or joint, can't remember who the statement was for). email didn't have a name it was addressed to. from abroad. They have put a stop on teh account, but we don't have an account with them.

Have tried phoneing the number but its only for acc holders.

sorry for pooey english, can't thnk straight, am shaking. DS1s birthday tomorrow so can't even go down branch then to deal with it and find out WTF is going on

Are you saying the e-mail looked like it was from abroad ?

There are a great many spam / Internet hoax e-mails which purport to come from the big banks.

cece · 29/09/2006 22:29

For lost and stolen HSBC online cards use the following numbers:
0800 0151 924 (24 hours

TBH it does sound like a fake email. I get ones like this from Barclays occasionally.

PretendFriend · 29/09/2006 22:29

GG, can you copy and paste the email on here?

GarfieldsGirl · 29/09/2006 22:30

OP posts:
hub2dee · 29/09/2006 22:31

(more usefully: we need the headers - the tech crap which is usually hidden. You might need to do Mail / Tools / View / Advanced / Show Message Headers or some such similar.

Expectantmum · 29/09/2006 22:31

I wouldn't have thought they would contact you by email. They would either phone or write directly to you asking you to contact them urgently. Sounds like a hoax to me.

GarfieldsGirl · 29/09/2006 22:31

thats what i was thinking cece, this is quite a new email address

OP posts:

HSBC ring you if they need to get in touch with you like this. Or they write you a letter - I had someone use my account fraudulently once and HSBC write to me every time I set a DD or SO up on my account now to check it's me doing it.

GarfieldsGirl · 29/09/2006 22:34

deleted. should i still phone hsbc in the mornoing to report it?

OP posts:
PretendFriend · 29/09/2006 22:34

That is a legit HSBC URL and the wording is "proper" iykwim - usually with scams they're obviously written by a foreigner.

But anyway GG, if you don't have an account, nobody can access it - they're not suggesting you're being cloned I don't think?
