Atos medical being cancelled and wasn't informed!

Hi all wonder if anyone can help, my daughter suffers severe anxiety disorder panic attacks and hardly goes out if she doesit has to be with some she trusts and she can't go that far.
Anyway I applied for the pip for her. She was asked to go for a medical, which she couldn't do, so they asked for medical evidence. The go wrote a letter stating what she has etc. I sent that off and last week I rang them and asked if a decision has been made in regards to the home visit. They said to me that she would still have to go as the letter did not have enough evidence.
She received a text msg on her phone on the 24th reminding her that her medical was on the 26th.
On the day I managed to get her she was in a state as we got into the building I handed the receptionist the letter to which she stated the medical had been cancelled, the lady rang atos to see what to do. Mean while my daughter was in tears ran out to the car and having a panic attack and wanted to get back home. When I spoke to atos apparently a decision was made I the 20th and they had tried to call from this date bearing in mind she had got a text on the 24th reminding her. She said that she has been granted a home visit, and that I should of called back.
Can anyone suggest what I should do, as this was really out of order on there part my daughter is suffering as it is let alone more pressure!

First I suggest you ask MN to move your post somewhere else, either money or maybe chat for 'traffic' as you will likely get more appropriate replies there. I've more than nice accidentally put threads where I didn't intend them to be or where they were less likely to get answered. To this you need to report your post to MN and they will move it.

Second, unfortunately this isn't surprising. ATOS are well known for doing things like this. Likely the text was sent by someone central who didn't know what was happening - in no way am I excusing them, just explaining. You could try complaining about what has happened, but you need to phone them first thing Monday to arrange the home visit. Otherwise she could be turned down, not having rung already (I know it's not your fault) will count as one medical not attended so you must rearrange immediately and not cancel, they will not allow a medical after two missed appointments for any reason and the application is refused (I've had experience of that myself).

Finally, good luck with applying.

I'm sorry I can't help more. Hopefully someone else will be along who can help you more.

Hope that makes sense. Sorry am very tired. I'll try and come back tommorow.

Bubbles247 · 28/09/2014 00:01

Thank you.
She didn't cancel the appointment they did. They said she will get a phone call from the home visiting team in due course.
The receptionist said and the dr in the centre said that they will vouch for her coming and that but obv that don't mean a thing.
Thank you for getting back.

Sorry, brain not working great at the moment I need some sleep, hence my rubbish reply, hopefully this will be better.

I didn't mean to imply she cancelled it, sorry. It doesn't matter that they cancelled and the centre will vouch for you being there, as there was no assessment It is still considered a cancelled appointment and will count as one missed (in my case I couldn't get into the medical centre as it is up steps (yes really!!) I went but they recorded it as did not attend as I didn't complete the medical).

If I was you I would definitely phone them Monday. Just in case, explain what happened last week and say you wish to complain as well. Especially as they didn't contact you this week. Please don't wait for them to contact you, I'm worried she will miss this opportunity.

Bubbles247 · 28/09/2014 08:53

Ok thank you very much.
I'll contact them in the morning, it's disgusting how they discriminate people over the conditions. Something needs to be done.
Did u get urs sorted?

My GP at the time sorted mine, as the stress meant worsening of a condition and hospital. It wasn't for PIP thought it was done by ATOS.

I know a lot of people who have been messed around by them hence mentioning you phoning them, sorry if I sounded like I was lecturing you that wasn't intention I just didn't want her to miss out.

Bubbles247 · 28/09/2014 17:05

No that's absolutely fine, did not come across as lecturing at all. Appreciate your advise.
The gp wrote a letter about her condition and they said it wasn't enough evidence hence why she had to go on the 26th. It was hard work getting her there! Then when we do get there the receptionist said that the appointment went off the screen about 1ish. We was not informed. When the receptionist rang them try spoke to the receptionist and to myself stating that she has been granted a home visit and that the home visit team will contact her in due course to arrange.
I'm going to ring them 1st thing

You're welcome. I really hope they get it sorted for you tomorrow, and do complain to them as well about what happened both by phone and in writing. It's awful dealing with all of this, I can well imagine the problems you had getting her there.

The GP I had then took no prisoners. I miss her loads Sad the benefits were reinstated after loads of hassle. Hopefully you won't need to go through that!

Unfortunately the DWP don't tend to listen to GPs anymore, something about them not being independent or so I heard anyway.
