Anyone been affected by this Natwest diaster?

Meant to be paid today but Natwest's "computer glitch" means that there is no money in my account.
So I won't be eating or paying my direct debits this weekend!

Anyone else having trouble?

Yeah, planning on popping into branch after school pick up to ask for some cash. It's payday today and I've got £20 in my account.
Have you been into a branch and tried to get some money?

Claire2009 · 22/06/2012 14:03

I've been given £60 today, and told I can have more when I want.... paid some bills, still more to sort, but guess I'll manage till its rectified.

lisaro · 22/06/2012 14:29

One of my staff was extremely worried yesterday. Her mortgage was due and she was flying off on holiday early this morning. She rung her mortgage provider and they were fine, we're aware of the problem and wouldn't be penalising anyone ie listing any payments as late, placing charges etc. So I'd suggest ringing anyone expecting payments to put your own minds at ease and confirm that it's out of your hands.

MrsRhettButler · 22/06/2012 14:32

So how long til its sorted then? I'm expecting money in tomorrow and DD's going out on monday

Caerlaverock · 22/06/2012 14:34

This is what happens when you outsource your IT systems to the other side of the world

billsmill · 22/06/2012 14:38

Says on the Daily Fail that 12million customers are effected and that it's going to last until next week.

DublinDoll · 22/06/2012 17:07

The same glitch has hit Ulster Bank here in Ireland as it's a subsidiary of NatWest and thousands of customers are affected, I was able to go into a branch today with my payslip and two forms of ID and they let me withdraw ?250 from my account. It's a pain in the arse, my mortgage and all my other direct debits won't have come out now and I can't use my debit card. The bank can't say when it will be resolved.

MamaGeekChic · 22/06/2012 17:12

Interesting comment Caerlaverock- the systems concerned are actually very much in the UK...

JennyNanny · 22/06/2012 17:18

I don't live near a branch unfortunately. I'll try and think of it as imposed savings - no spending over the weekend! The OH should be able to support me over the weekend, he is sensible and banks with Nationwide!

(Halifax are giving £100 to those who switch their bank accounts...tempting, tempting...)

I run payroll for my company (along with wearing a zillion other hats) and I have 30 employees who might not get their pay on Monday. It is really worrying me.

TheOldestCat · 22/06/2012 17:27

Yup, it's my payday and no pay. Working until late so can't get to a branch. Feck.

My direct debits etc come out of our joint account (with another bank) so I really need to move my cash from ShatWest today. DH doesn't get paid until next Wednesday. Bugger.

SecretNutellaFix · 22/06/2012 17:35

Yep- payday for me and Twatwest are hiding my pay and the unexpected bonus we received.

I didn't know about the problems on Wednesday when I made a payment to Ikea, so hopefully it has gone through.

I have left enough in there to cover it, but it really is quite frustrating to have enforced non-spending.

Driftwood999 · 22/06/2012 17:41

Was unaware of any of this until this pm. This morning I did a quick deposit, envelope at my local branch where you get to bypass the queue. Did for a nanosecond, wonder why the branch was so busy! Now worrying the deposit will disappear down a black hole...Anyone else?

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 22/06/2012 17:48

Both me and DP bank with Natwest. Our mortgage is with Natwest. Need DP's salary to go in on Monday ready for mortgage payment.

Rang Natwest this afternoon who advised me that:

Customers without sufficient money to last should go to their nearest branch
Branches are opening late (7pm) and even on Sunday 9am-1pm
No charges will be made for any unpaid DD's, mortgage payments etc

The chap I spoke to said he thought it would be all sorted by Monday so I needn't worry. But we shall see.

I think I'll be alright as our bank accounts and mortgage are both with Natwest, but imagine those people who bank with NAtwest and mortgage with others must have a horrible few weeks of phonecalls ahead of them to get mortgage company penalties recovered from Natwest.

It's a shame they have fucked up so royally, I have been with them for 15 years and never had any issues at all

SecretNutellaFix · 22/06/2012 17:52

I was told that Monday was what they were aiming for, but they weren't being overly optimistic that it would be fully sorted by then.

JennyNanny · 22/06/2012 19:41

Loving the new names for Natwest.
I was going with "Pratwest" personally but i like the alternatives.
I bet they're really regretting the slogan "helpful banking" now.

The bastards.

Online & mobile banking all up to date and working for me, not tried any atms though.

billsmill · 22/06/2012 20:52

My salary now seems to have gone in, thank goodness. Got £50 out in cash at the branch earlier. Felt really sorry for the bloke behind the counter. He looked pretty fed up by 4pm.

SecretNutellaFix · 22/06/2012 20:55

I will check again tomorrow. A Watched Pot Never Boils, and all that.

jammietart · 22/06/2012 21:00

hearts I'm in the same position. Run payroll for a company. Payday is Thursday next week but I need to get the payments to Natwest by Tuesday but our account manager couldn't tell me today if it's likely to be fixed by then. Not sure what to do.

slartybartfast · 22/06/2012 21:00

very unhepful bloke in my brnach yesterda. a simple No to my question. but perhaps he was being honest and he did not know when it woudl be sorted.
he did tell me direct debits would go out regardless - even if they werent taken out of my account. they would go and i would not be penalised.
have to pay credit card
have to go food shopping.

IT at my work were worried about it, thinking how could a virus get through Nat west?

StetsonsAreCool · 22/06/2012 21:19

Dh got his pay through at 4pm. They told him that people who phone to register their problem (aka complain) will automatically be refunded any late payment charges or unpaid dd fees. He's with Think Banking, which goes through Natwest it would appear.

Bah. I was thinking of swapping my current account from RBS to Natwest because I don't want to bank with Santander, who have bought my account. May rethink that now...

StetsonsAreCool · 22/06/2012 21:20

And my new employer banks with Natwest, so it looks like I won't be getting paid on Monday. Which is a complete bastard as I've been without any incomings for 6 weeks now. God knows how I'm going to pay for petrol on Monday Sad

CogitoErgoSometimes · 23/06/2012 07:52

Could you pay for petrol with a CC?

BeattieBow · 23/06/2012 08:05

my salary went in yesterday evening I think - at least it hadn't gone in when I went to bed, but its apparently in there now.

i have some charges on my account which wouldn't have been there otherwise, and my nanny didn't get paid either yesterday as the standing order didn't happen (although her money's gone through now too).

it was a pain and would have been worst if no money had gone through today as we have no food and would have had no way of getting any money to get food.
