Anyone been affected by this Natwest diaster?

Meant to be paid today but Natwest's "computer glitch" means that there is no money in my account.
So I won't be eating or paying my direct debits this weekend!

Anyone else having trouble?

Only a 'slight' issue. The company that DH works for has it's business accounts with Natwest, as a result nobody got paid on Friday. Went to
my bank on Friday, DH went in Saturday, they refused to help us. All we have got from Natwest is vague information about when the problem will be fixed and there's nothing they can do as we're not their customers. Borrowed a little to survive this weekend and got a few bits of food but it's been a hungry few days for me and DH. God knows what I'll do tomorrow if it's not fixed. Am I being vindictive to want to make the bastards suffer especially with being told that I have no right complaining as I am not their customer??

RubberDuck · 24/06/2012 18:14

MamaGeek: the systems may be based in the UK but NatWest apparently made huge numbers of experienced IT staff redundant a little while ago and outsourced to India. Wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't at least partially responsible.

MamaGeekChic · 24/06/2012 18:16

Yes they did, but it's not connected.

RubberDuck · 24/06/2012 18:37

Even if it didn't cause the problem, then having a skeleton tech department in the UK is not going to help matters, especially as those with the best knowledge of the systems no longer work for the bank.

I seem to have been bloody lucky. My Tax credits went in Thursday as normal, my rebate from Council went in yesterday. My wages are due in tomorrow, so wait and see.

Ex husband was affected though, with wages and DDs. He had to go into bank in person on Saturday instead.

Snorbs · 24/06/2012 18:58

slartybartfast, it wasn't a virus. It was a system upgrade that failed. As did, one can only assume, their pre-rollout testing, their in-service testing, their rollback plans and their disaster recovery plans.

NicholaJBailey · 24/06/2012 20:37

I can't believe how awfully my husband was treated when he went into the local branch. The Wrexham Rbs branch were abrupt and unsympathetic despite his business account and our own account being down by over £3000. They practically accused him of trying to profit from the situation by lying about what was going in. We were worried sick as you can imagine. Today, I phoned the Chester branch. They were amazing. So very helpful - even phoning us to make sure we could get through for an emergency payment before they closed.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 24/06/2012 21:06

So does anyone know if it's been sorted?

StetsonsAreCool · 24/06/2012 21:58

No credit cards Cogito.

I wasn't in the office on Friday, so I don't know if they've made any emergency arrangements. Hopefully it will all be back to normal soon.

GrasshopperNchipmunk · 25/06/2012 11:07

I had two standing orders that went out of my account on Friday, but have not yet arrived in the intended accounts Sad

This is such a bloody pain, and an inconvienience, suppose I better make my way to branch when I get a minute Angry

Ive linked in the discussion from the Guardian website as i was incensed by the attitude of a couple of the posters on there

carernotasaint · 27/06/2012 01:36

I have a cheque to pay in today. Hope it will be ok.

carernotasaint · 27/06/2012 01:40

Nichola are you going to complain about the behaviour at the wrexham branch. Absolutely disgusting attitude.

VerityBrulee · 03/07/2012 12:46

I just need to have a rant about this! I am in Ireland and Ulster Bank still have NO commuter systems running.

My child benefit did not go into my account at midnight, so I had to go into the branch where they looked up a spreadsheet provided to them by the government dept responsible for the payment so they could see how much usually goes into my account, and were able to give me that in cash. So I'm ok BUT the woman before me was in tears as they could do nothing for her. The guy beside me came in as his salary hadn't been credited to his account and he was living on his credit card. He wanted them to give him a temporary overdraft but they couldn't /wouldn't and said he'd have to continue with the cc until the salary was processed but they couldn't tell him when that would be!

The whole situation is farcical. I cannot use an ATM or my debit card and no one can tell me how much is in my account, or whether any of my direct debits have been paid. It is two weeks since this started and I am getting VERY CROSS.

carernotasaint · 03/07/2012 21:21

Customers need to start staging demos outside the branches and contact the press.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 03/07/2012 21:45

Affected? That's an understatement!

I'm with the Ulster Bank. They have no functioning systems, I haven't been paid. In fact there have been no transactions in or out of my account since 20 June.

The chairman of RBS (is it Sir Philip Something) was interviewed on the news last night, and when asked how long until we are fixed too, actually sighed, shrugged his shoulders and said not this week possibly Monday. Possibly. Pompous insincere git. The reporter mentioned bonus payments to directors and he looked really disinterested. If I wasn't cross before, I was then.

I have no idea if my direct debits have gone out. Neither have they.

I know I should have money in the account I cant access online, in the account I cant use, with the balance I dont know and the board of directors who dont give a flying fuck because I don't live on the "mainland" and am one of only 100,000 customers.

Well, sir Philip, down to 99,999.

Sorry, rant over. And I'm fortunate that I have savings with another bank, but honestly it's madness.

Our HR department today issued an email to allow staff with ulster bank accounts to get time to stand in queues at lunch to get money out. Not all the branches are open late to allow full time workers to get there.

VerityBrulee · 04/07/2012 10:46

Carer there has been lots of publicity, lots of affected customers on the radio/tv, but never a spokesperson from the bank to explain what's really going on.

It is incredibly annoying that no-one seems to be taking responsibility for the disruption and stress caused by all this. It has been a PR disaster for them. Interesting to see how many people move elsewhere after this. I have been with them since my childhood Henry Hippo account as that's where all my family had accounts.

If you go in with a payslip they will give you cash. But direct debits not being paid on time. They told me yesterday that they had completed payments up to June 25th.

The only upside to this is the email i got from Club Penguin saying they had closed dds account due to non-payment. I had forgotten all about it, which is of course how they make their fortune. Dd hasn't used it for (many) months.

My husband has been affected. His salary has not credited his account (due last Friday). Luckily this month I received some extra money from my last job, otherwise we'd be seriously stuck.
