Hi, have been a lurker for a while and only recently started posting. This book swap club idea sounds amazing. I am a big fan of books!

Anyone up for starting a new one with me?

I would be up for it!

JorlyWood · 13/11/2017 13:13

Excellent! Just need to find some more people.

4 of us so far then. Have any of you taken part in something like this before?

I might be...

How is it going to work ?

myusernameisnotmyusername · 15/11/2017 20:20

I’ve done one before on here. It lasted a couple of months then people just stopped sending the books

JorlyWood · 15/11/2017 20:36

Oh, that's a little disappointing. Hopefully we can keep it up a bit longer than that.

Katty I reckon one person would collect everyone's address then decide who is sending to who and then share their address individually then we would send a book to our person. Give it a month for everyone to read their book then pass it on again and so on until you have your own book back. We could discuss each book as we read it (trying not to give spoilers).

If you're still looking for people I'd be up for it.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 15/11/2017 21:39

Jorly I hope it lasts longer than that too.

JorlyWood · 15/11/2017 21:46

Yeah that would be good, Idonteven.

Looks like we have six people now, shall we start thinking about a date to start and some guidelines on which books maybe to avoid? If more people would like to join before then that is fine.

Also does anyone particularly want to be the organiser? I don't mind doing it if nobody else wants to.

OP posts:
Mulch · 15/11/2017 21:48

I'd like to join :)

myusernameisnotmyusername · 16/11/2017 11:04

Sounds good Jorly. I’m happy for you to organise if you’re happy. Thank you.

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 18:40

Yeah sure thing. Shall we aim for the 20th for addresses and then sorting who is sending to who? Then we can send 21st/22nd.

I think in previous clubs it's been horror, abuse memoirs and chick lit to avoid. Also recent bestsellers might not be great as they are more likely to have been read. Other than that it's up to you. Also along with your addresses please send me the initials of the book and author you are sending so I can make sure there aren't duplicates.

Thanks guys!

(Let me know if there is anything you disagree with, I am just going by what I read on other clubs but if there's anything you want to do differently I would love to hear)

BigPinkOrchid · 16/11/2017 19:32

I'd like to join, please, if it's not too late?

teabagsmummy · 16/11/2017 19:51

I'd love to Join as well please

appella · 16/11/2017 19:58

Me me!!!

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 20:12

Fantastic, we have a good number of people now. I know previous groups have limited the number but I reckon the more the merrier.

(It may be an idea to get a cheap copy of the book from a second hand shop though to send as we might lose some people and therefore books along the way)

OP posts:
myusernameisnotmyusername · 16/11/2017 20:38

Can we send mystery/suspense then?

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 21:03

I have no objection. To be honest I'm not sure about horror being on the no list. Do they mean zombies and killer crocodiles or Stephen king type horror/thriller e.g. pet semetary? If it's the first I can understand because mostly that genre is just pulp, much like chick lit. But if it is good quality horror/thriller/mystery I reckon we should allow it. I'd prefer there to be as little censorship as possible. What does everyone else think?

Abuse memoirs are definitely a no though as people might get triggered.

whyIsARavenLikeAWritingDesk · 16/11/2017 21:16

I agree to no abuse memoirs and slo to as little censorship as possible that way we get to read books we wouldn’t normally read I reckon

appella · 16/11/2017 21:48

Agree with those. I think more obscure books would be best!! Who are we sending addresses to?

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 22:06

Send them to me please by the 20th. Then I will message you all with the one you will be sending to. Damn, this is exciting. I best get thinking on what I am going to send.

OP posts:
myusernameisnotmyusername · 16/11/2017 22:45

I agree with the horror thing. And I don’t like abuse memoirs anyway.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 16/11/2017 22:46

Regarding chick lit- are we counting Dorothy koomson in that as I’ve found some of her books to be good.
