Hi, have been a lurker for a while and only recently started posting. This book swap club idea sounds amazing. I am a big fan of books!

Anyone up for starting a new one with me?

I'd like to join but I am more of a chick lit reader

LondonLassInTheCountry · 16/11/2017 22:50

Me please

clairethewitch70 · 16/11/2017 22:51

Can I join too please?

LondonLassInTheCountry · 16/11/2017 22:51

How do we pay for p&p... It cant be down to one person

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 23:01

I'm not really bothered about whether we include chick lit or not. I was just going on what other groups had done but this is our group and I'm happy with anything. If someone really despises a book there isn't any obligation to finish it.

Not quite sure what you mean London. The way it will work is everyone picks a book that they want others to read. Everyone sends me their address and I will then sort out who sends to who so that each person sends another their book. After a month each person then sends the book that they received on to the same person they sent to last time. So everyone will have one person they keep sending books to each month until you (hopefully) receive your own book back and then we are finished.

Jorly so we send you our address by PM and you organise our partner?

Also I saw on another book club that we also tell you the initials of both the book and author so that we can be sure no duplicates are being sent?

some also send chocolate with the books

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 23:16

Oh I totally forgot about the chocolate, thanks for the reminder! Let's do that too, up to a value of £2.50?

Yeah send me a pm with your address and the initials of author/book.

We will be starting on the 20th so all that wish to join pm me for then

HardRockHallelujah · 16/11/2017 23:27

Am I too late to join?

JorlyWood · 16/11/2017 23:32

Joiners welcome up to the 20th! I want to be as inclusive as possible but if at any point anyone has had enough please let me know so we can shuffle things around and there isn't a pile up of books at your door.

OP posts:
clairethewitch70 · 16/11/2017 23:35

We need to supply the initials of the Author & book so that there are no duplicates and it is still a surprise for the organiser.

appella · 16/11/2017 23:43

Can someone teach me how to PM from a phone? Blush

oxcat1 · 17/11/2017 00:02

Can I join please? Was in one before in here but it sadly fell apart pretty quickly.

JorlyWood · 17/11/2017 16:29

Appella if you go to the little person icon at the top right then inbox, down the bottom there should be a + for new messages. You will have to type my username there.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 17/11/2017 16:37

Oxcat we were in the same one!

whyIsARavenLikeAWritingDesk · 17/11/2017 18:07

Jorly can I do that on the app? I don’t have access to computer

JorlyWood · 18/11/2017 10:20

I got the app to try work it out but can't seem to find it. I will send you a pm of my email address and see if you can see messages you have received.

OP posts:
mailfuckoff · 18/11/2017 10:24

I would like to join but be warned, when the last one ended books for lost and mine never got back to me. So don't share anything you don't want to lose.

whyIsARavenLikeAWritingDesk · 18/11/2017 10:33

Thank you Jorly I’ve replied Grin

JorlyWood · 18/11/2017 10:50

Yeah, I definitely agree with mail.
There are quite a lot of us as well so more likely that things will get lost. I am thinking of a monthly sign in thread. We all reply that we are here before any books get sent off. If someone doesn't reply then I will organise for the book that would be sent to them to be sent elsewhere or to myself. I will work it all out on paper when I go buy a nice new fancy notebook for this.

I love to micromanage things, yey!

Also when you are sending me your addresses please let me know if you have any allergies/dislikes to chocolate or the like and I can send this request onto whoever is sending you a book.

Oh also can someone think of a group name so I can clearly set out the plan so far on a new thread. I am hopeless with any sort of creativity.

Thanks all!

So far I only have 4 addresses. I was hoping to have them by tomorrow so I could organise it and then we can send out tuesday/wednesday.

OP posts:
myusernameisnotmyusername · 19/11/2017 20:30

Hi I’ve just worked it out. Have a browse around my Mumsnet. I think I went to my Mumsnet then account and inbox.

BigPinkOrchid · 20/11/2017 19:08

Was today the deadline Jorly? How's it looking?

JorlyWood · 20/11/2017 19:43

Yeah it was, we have 6 addresses so far. So that is 7 including me. I will be up late as I'm speed reading the book I'm going to send.

So everyone has until midnight to send me the addresses and I will be sorting it out then. I really want to get books sent tomorrow or Wednesday as next month it will be coming up to Christmas and the period between Christmas and New Year can be hectic enough never mind sending books on.

oxcat1 · 20/11/2017 20:01

Just in case anybody no longer has a copy of the book they wish to send (enjoyed it so much so lent it to a friend who lost it. Grrr!), or perhaps where you don’t want to risk your much-loved own copy, AbeBooks is brilliant for buying secondhand books, often for little more than the cost of postage.
(I also noticed that they are on Quidco, if you do that....)

Looking forward to getting started!!

JorlyWood · 20/11/2017 20:15

Thanks for the link. If you don't have a copy of the book and are going to use the website oxcat linked then you could wait for the person's address you will be sending your book to and get it delivered straight to them. Saves a postage cost.
