How long after miscarriage did preg test show "negative"

I think I have had a miscarriage over the past 2 days - cramping, red blood followed by brown, then black stringy clotty bits, and total absence of pregnancy symptoms.

However there has not been much blood, but I think that is because I am only about 5 weeks. GP has said no point going to EPU as it is too early in preg for a sac to show, even if I was still pregnant, and that I should just wait and do a preg test in a few days.

But I am impatient and I want to know now one way or theother - so I can either move on, or become happy again about being pregnant.

Does anyone know how quickly a negative test would show if I have indeed miscarried?

Never posted anything before but i had a miscarriage at 9 weeks which was on the 15 of February 3 weeks later tests were still coming back positive. I had to go for a d&c to remove tissue on the 12 of march. The tissue was sent away to test for a molar pregnancy got the results last week that it wasnt. Pregnancy test are still coming back positive. Has anyone else had this ? And how long do HCG take to go back to normal as it has been 7 weeks on Monday since I had a d&c. This was my first pregnancy so about confused.

I had an ERPC 17 days ago and got a negative test for the first time today. It's soul crushing seeing that line when you know you're not actually pregnant. It can take several weeks for HCG levels to drop to zero and many of the tests (especially first response) are so sensitive you can get a positive result even if there's only a minuscule amount of HCG left.

@Meganjayne, I was told after my operation that if tests were still positive after three weeks to give them a call. It could possibly be retained tissue OR you may be pregnant again. Is there any chance you could be pregnant again? Seven weeks is a long time to still be getting positive tests.

I could be possible as the hospital never told me not to try . I had the tissue and everything removed to be sent off and checked. I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday but not sure what they would be able to do .

I had my first negative yesterday - 2 weeks & 5 days since passing the sac. I hope it’s because you’re pregnant again but check with the docs what they think. Good luck x

Hello everyone on this thread or joining later. Ive just joined MN but have often come to message boards to read others’ posts and found them really useful.
I had a miscarriage last week (23/4/18) at approx 8 weeks. Just took a pregnancy test and it was a negative. So hasnt taken long at all. Sad to confirm it but also means I can get back on to TTC. I’m sorry for everyone’s loss and hoping for more BFPs soon.

Hi I would really like some advice it’s been over 6 weeks since we had our miscarriage I was 7weeks pregnant.. I’ve still no period, I never took a test to see if it was negative after the miscarriage, because I couldn’t bring myself to it. My partner and I have had intercourse throughout the 6 weeks and I took two clear blue pregnancy tests one on Thursday then another on Friday and they both said I’m 3+ weeks pregnant!! This week I’ve been feeling sick and today I was sick could this be the morning sickness kicking in again? Am I pregnant again? What’s your thoughts😊

Hi im new here i had mc on Aug 18 and today Sept 17 i had BFN but no AF yet after 32 days and experiencing lower back pain since last week..what does that mean?

I’m really sorry to hear your loss. I’m forever googling stuff. I must say this as helped me a lot with my loss. I had a miscarriage 16th of September 2018.. I had a op to remove everything as nothing was working on me. Just a pregnancy test yesterday (29/09/18) came out positive! Did one today a day after came out positive AGAIN! but darker... I don’t know what to do anymore ;( I’m going to wait for 1 more week and see what happens.

Hi please can someone advise as Gp wasn’t helpful. 3 weeks late on period then heavy bleed for 5 days. Then week later back pain lower abdo pain pink- brown discharge sorry too much info positive preg test another later in day negative. Talk to gp says come in for urine test thinks infection tests urine for infection- nothing urine shows blood in it. Says probably just odd period today positive clear blue says 1-2 weeks. Still pain in lower back and lower abdo still discharge dark. Am I having or have I had a miscarriage

BFN three weeks exactly after the D&C. It ended up being a partial molar with hcg levels at 7.5 nearly six weeks after the surgery.

Hi I am in a similar weird position. I had a mc at 5 weeks- started bleeding on 12.07 tested negative on 18.07. Did a test yesterday (23.07) and it tested positive! I don’t know what’s going on... I know it could still be hcg in my body but it’s weird that I had a negative test last week. Anyone else been in a similar position? Could it even be possible that I am pregnant again!? Thanks xx

I think I had a miscarriage at 3.5 weeks. I'm nervous about taking a test to check - I don't want to deal with getting a false positive, I'd rather know if it's over, but I'm also desperate to know as soon as possible. How early would you advise taking a test? - It's now 13 days.

Hope this one day might be helpful to anyone in a similar position. I know this thread goes back over a year, but just in case it is helpful for anyone in the future, I had a MMC over two months ago and 8 weeks ago had SMM, which went well. However, I am still getting positive tests 8 weeks later, so it is possible (but not usual) that HCG takes a very long time to leave your system. I have been back to the EPU and they confirmed a complete miscarriage and nothing left behind, so it is now just a waiting game for the HCG to completely drop and my body to realise it is no longer pregnant.
I did a lot of research trying to work out how common this was and it doesn't seem to be, so I hope this experience can help someone else in the future.

I had an incomplete miscarriage 10 days ago confirmed by scan, done a test today and got bfp I'm sure it's probably still from miscarriage but a bit worried it's not all come away as test was really strong x

Hi Ladies, I miscarried twins 2 weeks ago and I’m wondering if my HCG levels will take longer to decrease than a single baby pregnancy. I can find any threads on it. Anyone else experienced this? Thanks x

BecsterG I'm sorry I don't know in your case, but just to anyone for whom this happens to as well, after getting my first period after miscarriage last week I tested this morning (just wanting to finally see a negative result) and it still came back as a faint positive.

I don't yet know what it means in terms of my cycle and ovulation, but still hope sharing this experience might somehow help someone else in the future.

Not sure if you are referring to me or the post after me but I got my negative 2 weeks and 5 days after I first started bleeding. I thought my cycle would start from then as it made sense but I got my first period two weeks later so 30 days from the first time I bleed with the miscarriage. I’ve now had two periods and I’m pretty sure I have just ovulated for the second time since my miscarriage. My cycle seems to have gone straight back to normal which is lucky for me.

Hi after some advice, I had a misscariage 3 weeks ago went for my 12 week scan and baby had stopped at 8 weeks 6days I took a test last week faint positive lines phoned egu they took my bloods which hgc levels were 26 took another 2 today and still faint lines would hcg still be in my system or could I be pregnant again?

@Louise198827 I still had some hcg 4 weeks after. My period returned a few days after a blood test which still showed I had some hcg in my system. I was still getting really faint positive tests. It could also be a new pregnancy though. You will only know with blood tests if your hcg rises.

Found this old post and I’ve had muck coming out of me for well over a week now. I have a scan in the morning which will tell me for sure as I just want to know as it’s the not knowing. I know that these things have happened to women for millennia but in this day and age I think you should be offered a scan sooner so you know. Waiting for repeated blood tests is not good enough. I still have a tiny flicker of hope that all is well but am being realistic.

I know this was a couple months ago but I’m literally in the exact same situation you are , I had gone into the ER April 4th , ( at the time thinking I was 12 weeks ) because I was spotting, and I was confirmed that my baby had no heartbeat or movement and was only measuring exactly 8 weeks 6 days 😞 bled for about a week then spotting on and off and I took a pregnancy test on April 19 and it was a faint positive still . 😞 did you get any results after your doctor appt ? Where you pregnant or left over HCG?
