Had a scan on Sat that showed no FH even though I'm 10 weeks and had another scan today that confirmed mmc. booked in for ERPC tomorrow morning. Any advice about what to expect esp afterwards in terms of pain and bleeding? Thanks

I am so sorry for your loss. This also happened to me at 12 weeks and i had an erpc. From what i remember it was a quick day procedure. I was in at 8am and out by 3pm surgery at 11. Bleeding wasnt too heavy, much the same as a normal period but darker (TMI) I was given strong pain killers but did feel tired out for 2 days. By day 3 i was able to go on school run and function IYKWIM. One thing i will say....ask questions. I was too dazed to really ask about things especially what happens after(i dont want to upset oyu but i wish i had asked these questions) I was told that if a mass is removed i would get a call to discuss next step but never got a call. Im sure that this delayed my recovery.

On a happier note, the ERPC was after my second MC and within 2 months of the ERPC i got pregnant again by accident and now have a lively DD aged 2.

take care

Hi napa

Ive just got home after having an ERPC, I got to the hospital at half 7 this morning, was first on the list so by half 9, Id been to theatre and was back on the ward begging for toast. I was under GA for around 10/15mins.

Pain wise, Im ok, I was roughly 14 weeks they said looking by the size of it, which would fit in with my dates. I have a little discomfort but Im honestly ok. Bleeding is minimal, onl there when I wipe but Im told my next period will be horrendous so make sure I take it easy.

Good Luck for tomorrow xxx

napa · 31/03/2008 16:36

thanks for your message, hope you recover well. i'm in at 7.30am and their planning to do me at 8 so can be home at lunch time. take it easy and rest lots.

Napa, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had a MMC at about 10-11 wks in Sep, had an ERPC. I bled lightly for a couple of days, then had a few days off, then about two weeks of quite heavy, sorry for tmi. I cried a lot afterwards, so they drew the curtains around my bed for me. Done at about 9am, awake again 9.40, out at 2pm. Took it easy for a couple of days as I was tired (from general anaesthetic I think), then I was OK physically (mentally another question!). Luckily I got pg again next cycle, it seems to be quite a good way to kick start your system again (I have PCOS and a practically non-existent cycle anyway).

Good luck, and take it easy for a few days, be nice to yourself.
xx

Napa, I am so sorry for your loss. I had erpc 6 weeks ago and had no pain after at all. Hope yours goes smoothly and that you are home by lunchtime.

Julez, so glad today was physically OK, have been thinking of you over the weekend, have you got a follow up appointment booked?

Julezboo · 31/03/2008 21:14

mummytobea - I go back in 3 weeks for results and blood test then another week after that for a scan. I assume all the bits for charing cross will come to me?

mummytobea · 31/03/2008 21:38

Julez, when you get your results they will probably register you online with Charing Cross at the same time (that's how my hospital did it) then I got the pots etc through from them a few days later. Hope the next 3 weeks pass quickly, I always think the waiting is worst xxx

expatinscotland · 31/03/2008 21:42

I'm sorry for your loss.

It varies by individual.

In my case, I had VERY little bleeding afterwards, but I did have terrible cramps for a few days and for one day I had that feeling you get right after you give birth - a bit like your innards will fall out if you stand too much.

Posey · 31/03/2008 21:45

So sorry for all of you who are going through this. I had an ERPC (molar pregnancy) several years ago. I had minimal bleeding for the first week then quite suddenly started gushing with lots of clots and pain. Apparently I should've been warned that this could happen (which is why I'm telling you). Obviously I was scared out of my mind, rushed to hosp, but by the time I was seen it was calming down again. The doctor said it was quite "normal".

Thinking of all of you.

Julezboo · 31/03/2008 22:57

thankyou posey, i would have panicked too! I did have one 2 years ago (exactly to the day ironically!) I dont remember much about it tbh except i cried alot.

My bleeding is only very slight, pains are the worst though, it feels like trapped wind all over my stomach, thats the only way i can descrie it, if i take my pain killers on time im ok though. Hurts to pee a little too.

Expat - how are you doing?

expatinscotland · 31/03/2008 22:58

I'm good, Julez!

I'm still very nauseated all day, but only being sick once every other day or so.

Touch wood.

Going for another scan in 3 weeks after this past one.

Taking every day as it comes.

expatinscotland · 31/03/2008 23:02

Napa, tbh, I didn't sleep well before the ERPC and after the GA I felt more refreshed, if that sounds right.

Please be kind to yourself and give your body time to recover.

No one expects you to be back to 100% the next day.

Just make sure they send you home with some pain medication.

I found a lot of relief from my hot water bottle, too.

Julezboo · 31/03/2008 23:04

Expat - Im happy for you, I remember you from other threads in pregnancy. I will keep everything crossed for you.

We've decided to stop at 2, we have 2 healthy boys that make us smile

expatinscotland · 31/03/2008 23:07

That's how we feel, too.

As we go along, it's just day to day, keeping in mind how blessed we are.

I think it is this way with every mother who has had an m/c in the past.

I hope it goes well for you, napa.

So many of us have been there, too.

expatinscotland · 31/03/2008 23:07

Thanks, Julez

napa · 01/04/2008 16:24

thanks for all your messages yesterday. today went fine, the docs were great and the recovery nurse was fab. they let me go home at 12 and so far all ok. minimal bleeding and no pain. the only crap bit was the admitting nurse who was clearly just following the general check list for all surgeries. she asked me my LMP (a bit weird as its all over my notes) then she told me I'd have to take a preg test before the surgery. i said "no read my notes" but she was insisting. so I stood right next to her a said, i was pregnant i've had a miscarriage and i'm here for an ERPC read my f***g notes. after a couple of mins she appologised but was still going on about it when the docs came to see me about how she'd have to tell the doc I'd refused a preg test, so I said fine, he is the doc that scanned me yesterday so I think he knows anyway!!! i saw the consultant after and he has made a formal complaint on my behalf!!

sorry for the long winded rant but I'm still cross - my friend came with me while DH was taking DD to nursery and she was livid -think she was the one who told the consultant

anyway, i hope you don't mind if i stick around on the mis boards, not usually into chat stuff but finding it really helps, and hope to join the mis avengers on the conception thread soon!!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 16:35

napa, glad to hear it all went well. sorry abuot that nurse. how awful! as if it's not stressful enough! i'd stick with the complaint, tbh. it doesn't take a genius to realise from teh notes that if you were only scanned yesterday and not had any bleed since then that you are still carrying the missed m/c.

please put your feet up and let everyone help you out.

there are plenty of us on M/C board, TTC after M/C, pregnant after M/C, etc. so join on in!

napa · 01/04/2008 17:11

don't think she even looked to see why i was there, so didn't know about the mmc she was pretty useless, didn't take my temp correctly and made a big deal about my friend not being able to stay and her looking after my clothes and I'd have to phone her later (the consultant came and took my friend to wait in the docs break room until I was out instead!)

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 17:17

yes, but once you told her you had missed m/c and were just scanned yesterday it should have been patently obvious to her that you don't need a pregnancy test.

and since when can you not have friends to wait/stay with you?

eleanorsmum · 01/04/2008 20:37

Hi napa, I'm having mine done tom. have to be there at 10. not looking forwards to it. are you in any pain now? did you worry about not coming round from the general? i'm worrying myself silly over that bit! stupid i know.

napa · 01/04/2008 22:35

was worrying today and decided to only stress about the op rather than the reason for it. not ready to work throughy that stuff yet. have had no pain at all and haven't taken any pain killers, bleeding a little straight away but now pretty much none (just on wiping-sorry if TMI). was a bit scared of GA mainly cos I hate needles and had a panic about that but as soon as it was in they gave me sedative and I remember nothing else. my friend said I came round from the op asking for socks on and for my knickers whcih I proceeded to put on (pad too) in front of my friend - good job we're good friends. hope everything goes ok tomorrow. i got to hosp at 7.30 went for op at 8.50, in recovery by 9.20 and home by 12. good luck and let me know if you need anything though i'm not an expert

eleanorsmum · 02/04/2008 08:28

thanks napa, am the same not dealing with why yet but just getting through today. not due in till 10 then will have to wait etc. am concerned about not waking up, chances are so slim but its an odd feeling.

thanks

napa · 02/04/2008 08:56

hope it all goes ok today, let me know how you are later i'll be thinking of you this morning

Julezboo · 02/04/2008 10:40

Hey girls

Hope some of you are stil around

I feel like shite today, im agony in my stomach, i have a heachache, all shakey, passed a clot this morning but bleeding has pretty much slowed down again now. Is this normal. It hurts my belly to walk. I feel all flu like.

Napa glad your op went went - I wasnt allowed to have my DP with me either, spent most of monday alone till he came to pick me up at 2pm, thought it was a little harsh given why I was in there?

Eleanor - hope yours goes okay today

napa · 02/04/2008 10:48

julez hope you are feeling better now, i still have no pain and bleeding seems to have stopped for now. i am tired but thats cos i'm not really sleeping. it might be worth checking your temp to make sure you don't have an infection. the only thing i noticed is my boobs are killing me, just as sore as at the start of my pg, not sure why but hope they get better soon.

i'm doing emotional avoidance!! - went shopping yesterday afternoon and spent the money I'd saved for a new pushchair and today I'm in mad cleaning mode, kitchen, bedrooms and one of the bathrooms done so far, just got the other bathroom and the hoovering to go in between pretending none of it has happened.
