Is it possible to ovulate 2 weeks after a miscarriage?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to get some advice... I had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago (7th Feb), I had medical management that day. I feel like I've only just recovered physically but I took a pregnancy test and a ovulation test today and the pregnancy test is still showing a very faint line, but the ovulation test is showing an LH surge. Is this even possible?! Are my hormones just confused or this there a possibility that you can ovulate 2 weeks after a miscarriage. Also how can you have a LH surge if there are still pregnancy hormones in your body!! Any advice would be appreciated x

So sorry for your loss 💕 how are you feeling?
I had a miscarriage on 6th Feb and really struggling.
I don’t have any advice regarding your situation but I’d like to know if you can ovulate/fall pregnant while still testing positive from your miscarriage. Xx

eurochick · 20/02/2022 22:57

My miscarriage delayed ovulation by only two days. It's definitely possible.

UnusuallyUsual · 20/02/2022 23:09

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks and had a erpc. 2 weeks later I ovulated and fell pregnant. It does happen.

PiesNotGuys · 20/02/2022 23:17

I am sorry for your loss. I hope it works out for you.

One of my Dc was born (and very overdue) 43 weeks and 6 days after one of my miscarriages.

Fingers crossed.

Hi @Emily6457 I'm just about recovered physically now but I just feel really sad and empty and feel no purpose in anything :(

I'm so sorry for your loss too lovely, and sorry to hear you're struggling :( I hope you've got lots of support around you? It's such a horrible thing to go through!

I do think it's possible to ovulate a couple of weeks later but I don't want to get my hopes up, I think there's a high change the test could just be confused because of the hormones. Are your pregnancy tests still positive? X

Thank you, I'm sorry for your loss too :( but congratulations on your new pregnancy, I hope everything went well/is going well for you. Definitely gives me hope that it can happen quickly after 😊 x

I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you're doing ok. That's great news that you've confirmed that you're ovulating though! Good luck, keeping everything crossed for you!!!

My clear blue ovulation test is a static smiley but still a very faint positive on a pregnancy test, do you think the ovulation test could be picking up the pregnancy hormone instead?

DD is 10 in less than a fortnight.

AF never came again after my miscarriage. I wondered if the miscarriage itself had just been breakthrough bleeding because I had a positive on a test. So I went for my 12 week scan and they saw a tiny 4 week old heartbeat. I had miscarried and promptly got pregnant again.

Keeping fingers crossed for you OP

Ttcfinalbub · 04/03/2022 13:31

You can ovulate 2 weeks after mc BUT lh is apparently also similar to hcg and pregnancy can trigger a positive ovulation test. In this case I would try some baby dancing and see where you end up if not you'll be alot clearer on what's going on next month anyway =)

Emily6457 · 04/03/2022 15:03

@OP

How are you getting on? Xx

helloimlaura · 05/03/2022 09:52

@Emily6457 I'm doing ok thank you for asking. Although I had to go back to the hospital as I was still positive 3 weeks later and said there was retained products after scanning me :( if it doesn't pass in 10 days I have to go back. Very annoying 😢 how are you getting on now? X

I’m ok physically. My pregnancy test was negative after 3 weeks. My husband doesn’t want to try again, which I am finding very hard emotionally. I’m lucky enough to have two children already though and a great support network xx

helloimlaura · 05/03/2022 14:30

@Emily6457 oh I'm really sorry to hear that, that must be really tough 😞 glad to hear you've got lots of support around you.
I just really want to be pregnant again, trying for our first and just worried about how long it will take x

Hi @helloimlaura I'd been watching this thread, I had a mmc too and am ready to start ttc.

Having retained something is my worst nightmare, so sorry to hear this. How annoying you have to wait too, they should be taking you straight back in.

helloimlaura · 05/03/2022 22:52

@Ellie5341 sorry to hear about your mmc 😢 how long ago was it? Hope you're doing ok.

Yeah it's really horrible as we thought it was all over and could move on but it's just dragging it out! I think they are hoping my period comes within those 10 days and it will pass with that. Really annoying to still be testing positive nearly 4 weeks later!

@helloimlaura it's terrible as there appears to be no consideration for your emotional state of mind to just keep you in what you had began to put into a part of your mind.

I am so sorry.
Mine was 2 weeks ago so I suppose I'm not out the woods yet.

helloimlaura · 07/03/2022 19:23

@Ellie5341 no unfortunately you're just expected to go back about your daily life a week or two later, it's very hard ☹️ hope you're doing okay and have got a good support network x

@helloimlaura how are you?
Are you due back in hospital this week or have you had a period?
Hope you're ok.

Ellie5341 · 13/03/2022 22:48

@FreckledMouse how are you?

I'm sure I remember seeing you in the September thread as well as another mc one.

I am similar in that I mc and ttc again.
Hope you have good news soon.

helloimlaura · 13/03/2022 22:52

@Ellie5341 thanks for checking in! I'm going back tomorrow morning as my period didn't come :( so annoying. Still testing positive, I did a digital test Friday and it was positive 1-2 weeks... I didn't think it was possible for these tests to count back down again? I'm very confused and just want to find out what's going on! Is there a small chance I could be pregnant again or am just clutching at straws?

How are you doing now? Xx

OP posts:
Ellie5341 · 13/03/2022 23:03

Omg @helloimlaura how amazing would it be to find out you were pregnant!!
Of course, you started this thread querying the opk... I suppose hoc could be dropping them rise again with a bfp.

No idea about the digital tests, I suppose the way hoc drops when measured in blood could these be the same?

If it's any help on the day after my procedure, I got a bfp and a peak opk.
I stopped testing and then started again about 2 weeks later and got a high then next day a peak, then highs counting down but still showing positive on a pregnancy test.

helloimlaura · 14/03/2022 11:46

@Ellie5341 just back from the hospital with still no more answers than last week! They did another scan and still showed some 'tissue' on the wall of my uterus. They said my lining looked very thick (not sure what that indicates). They scared me about the risks of the procedure so have agreed to give it another week for my period to come.

Are your tests negative yet or has your period come? X

OP posts:
Ellie5341 · 16/03/2022 10:08

@helloimlaura sorry to hear they scared you off the procedure, what put you off?

Any signs of af yet?

I am now testing negative and still no af so I was obviously having peaks with no ovulation 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm not even going to try to track but will wait for af and start from there.

Hoping4second · 16/03/2022 19:55

Yes I've had ovulation and a period and another ovulation all the while testing positive for pregnancy. The line kept getting fainter and fainter though, and I had a scan showing all was OK inside so I wasn't worried.

The epu doctor told me not to get pregnant until after I'd had a period post miscarriage. She said it's because the uterus lining may not be that robust immediately after a miscarriage. No idea how strong the evidence is on that. I've also been told not to have sex while still bleeding due to risk of infection and for me that meant no pregnancy until after the first period as I'm usually still spotting when I ovulate after a miscarriage.

Our bodies are weird and wonderful.
