Was it a miscarriage or not?!

So I had my BFP on 21st August (the day my period was due). Two days later I took another test which was slightly lighter and assumed it was another chemical (had one the previous cycle). Spotting / bleeding from 26th August for 6 days. Lighter than my previous miscarriage/chemical but similar to a normal period for me (pretty light).
Anyway... today... was taking an LH test so took a pregnancy test to confirm it was negative and it's positive. It was just a cheapy so took a clear blue and it said "pregnant 2-3 weeks".
What the flop is going on?!

Miscarriage

Why is still so taboo . Tonight I’ve had my second miscarriage and find just left the er . I’m thinking why does nobody tell you physically how hard it is . Mentally it’s destroying but this is my second miscarriage and both times were horrific because I never knew what to expect because I was told expect some cramping and bleeding and that might be the case for some women but not myself and I’m sure many others . I was 13 weeks the first time 7 years ago it was awful. I had heavy bleeding when I went to be checked out no heartbeat I opted for the tablet to help as it hadn’t passed was told expect cramping and bleeding and sent on my way . That’s not what happened I had contractions and passed a fetus. This time around I was 9 weeks went in to early pregnancy unit seen a heartbeat two weeks later heart had stopped I had bleeding when I wiped and again was handed a leaflet with my options and told to come back in two weeks . I chose to go natural and wait and see I was having bleeding and stringy dishcharge for on off ten days until yesterday I called hospital was told it’s okay unless I’m filling two pads up it’s fine but still again no information on what to expect I was left googling everything under the sun the last two weeks and it tormented me . I woke this morning with the deepest pains and I knew it was staring forward and hour I was screaming in pain with contraction like pain a I passed a clot maybe 6 cm and assumed that was it but couldn’t rest as the pain had not subsided all day the pain was so intense no pain killer was even touching it forward to 8.30 tonight I was on all fours in the bathroom I could feel something stuck trying to come out when I looked I actually taught I had prolapsed as it felt like it was stuck inside I rang er again and while on the phone to them I delivered a fetus on the floor off my bathroom. I’ve never experienced pain or shock like it before I was rushed into hospital as bleeding had intensified and they had to remove a large clot that couldn’t get through the cervix . It was such a traumatic experience . I really feel for anyone going though this it’s brushed off as something we should get over . I just wanted to be blunt and honest about my experience as i just wanted to know what to expect and spent hours on Google everytime I wiped and seen something trying to figure out if it has passed as all I was ever told to expect was cramping and bleeding I find even friends and family have the same idea it’s something that’s over in a couple days and your okay physically and hopefully that is the case for some but I just feel like I would have like to know what actually to expect

I had a period when I was pregnant. Well maybe not actually a period but it felt the same. I think you might still be pregnant. Is it worth seeing someone? When I bled they did an ultrasound and saw a foetus.

You need to go to your EPAU and request a scan. I'd say those are pretty strong lines after a mc, don't want to get your hopes up but could be implantation bleed?

jennyv16 · 05/09/2021 07:49

I went to the EPU who said they couldn't scan me yet and to come back on Wednesday. So I paid for a private scan in the mean time and went yesterday. They said that it might be possible I've got my dates wrong but she couldn't see anything yet so might not too. But that my endometrial lining was thick which it wouldn't be if I'd had a period. So I've got the NHS scan on Wednesday but also a free rescan at the private place on Saturday, to see if there is anything there basically. Fingers crossed!

So I am now addicted to peeing on sticks. Tested again yesterday and clear blue still said 2-3 weeks. Today I used a first response so I could compare it to my first test. Top is my first positive and bottom is today. I don't know if it's a good sign or not. If I am pregnant then great, but if I'm not, I don't want my body to still think I am! I want to get back to TTC again. It's very confusing. I have my NHS scan tomorrow at 12 noon so will update you after that. Hoping they can see something but I have a feeling they'll tell me it's a likely miscarriage.

Sorry op, only just seen this. Wow! Dye stealer. How did your scan go?

They couldn't see anything. They aren't sure what it is yet... ectopic, early pregnancy or incomplete miscarriage I think are the options. Had a blood test Wednesday and here now for another. Will know more after today I think.

HCG on Wednesday was 1366. HCG yesterday was 2187 (48 hours apart).

It's a 60% increase. I phoned up for it as someone was meant to ring me back. Nurse gave me the figures but said she couldn't interpret it and that a doctor would ring me back "with a plan".

I'm thinking it's ectopic territory?

Just an update for anyone still following now or in the future. EPU still hadn't phoned back by the time I went for my private rescan this afternoon. They could see a gestational sac but was only measuring 5 weeks. Sonographer didn't seem concerned and just said it could be the start of a very early pregnancy. Included a photo of the scan in case it's helpful.

Later this evening the EPU phoned back and said it was good that hcg level had gone up but it wasn't as much as they would like. Got to go for another blood test tomorrow afternoon to see what that is.

You must feel like you’re in limbo land! It’s interesting they found a sac this time. I can’t see a foetal pole though? Flowers

jennyv16 · 12/09/2021 21:14

@Boombadoom - no, they just saw the sac. Nothing else (yet?!)

3rd blood test result today was 3292. So it’s gone up but again not by what they’d expect.
So far I’ve had:
1366
2187
3292
which are all 48 hours apart. They’ve booked me in for another scan on Wednesday which will be a week since the last (NHS) one.

I had similar at s similar time scale to you by quite severe cramping and hcg not increasing as it should - was told to go home and wait for miscarriage to start. That was over 12 years ago and he's now just started senior school. Fingers crossed it works out for you too!

Boombadoom · 12/09/2021 21:35

Hmmm. Yes, really should be increasing much quicker. It could be a blighted ovum, or it could very well be a pregnancy that isn’t following the rule books but is doing ok. I still really hope it’s the latter x

jennyv16 · 12/09/2021 21:42

@yetmorewaiting wow! I hope I'm as lucky as that. What a blessing for you x

@Boombadoom Me too. Thank you. Will keep the thread updated as it's good to know the outcome when I've been reading others.

I believe it's supposed to double every 48-72 hours (if I remember correctly) so it could be that yours is actually doubling if they were taken 72 hours apart 🤞

newnameday · 12/09/2021 21:47

Yep so looks okay to me. Although not a professional, just a Googler when I was miscarrying and after my D&C when my hCG was not dropping, I read a lot!

Was it a miscarriage or not?!
jennyv16 · 12/09/2021 21:47

@newnameday Fingers crossed. I'll just have to wait and see what they can see on Wednesday's scan I guess!

OP posts:
newnameday · 12/09/2021 21:48

It may still be on the slower side but it's not an exact science. Best of luck OP, the waiting is the worst part Thanks

RedPandaFluff · 15/09/2021 19:19

How did you get on, @jennyv16 - hope you're okay Thanks

jennyv16 · 15/09/2021 19:31

Thank you @RedPandaFluff I had the scan at 4.30pm and I think basically they think it's a "failed intrauterine pregnancy" so it's not ectopic but it's not viable either. So kind of good news in that I was really worried about an ectopic pregnancy, but no miracles. We have been here hours and are still waiting to see the consultant now for the "plan" going forward. I imagine it will be medical or surgical management.
