Was it a miscarriage or not?!

So I had my BFP on 21st August (the day my period was due). Two days later I took another test which was slightly lighter and assumed it was another chemical (had one the previous cycle). Spotting / bleeding from 26th August for 6 days. Lighter than my previous miscarriage/chemical but similar to a normal period for me (pretty light).
Anyway... today... was taking an LH test so took a pregnancy test to confirm it was negative and it's positive. It was just a cheapy so took a clear blue and it said "pregnant 2-3 weeks".
What the flop is going on?!

Hi sorry to jump into the conversation so late and I'm sorry you're going through this. I had a similar situation to you with similar HCG readings and convinced myself it was eptopic. Scan actually confirmed a suspected molar pregnancy which was just as awful in some ways (not sure if you know what a molar pregnancy is but it's not pleasant). Anyway, I had to have a D&C to confirm and after many weeks of worrying it was confirmed that the tissue was a normal product of conception I.e a normal miscarriage and I was able to start TTC right away and I now have a beautiful 3 month old DS. It's awful going through a pregnancy loss (that was my second loss) but try and stay positive either way and look after yourself. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Sending you hope and best wishes.xx

@ECarmel Thank you so much for your comment. I'm sorry you had to go through that too. Lovely to hear a positive story though and you've now got your rainbow baby! Xx

Have you seen the consultant yet? Hope everything is ok.xx

jennyv16 · 16/09/2021 06:42

@ECarmel Yes, I'm coming back for an AVM tomorrow. So hopefully that will draw a line under it. They'll then test the tissue to confirm it was pregnancy tissue. As the other option was to take the drug for ectopic pregnancy which I didn't want to do! X

So I went in for my MVA (under local anaesthetic) today. They tried twice to do it, but my cervix wasn't dilated enough at the top for them to be able to get the tube through. I've got to go back on Monday/Tuesday for a general anaesthetic. Has anyone had a general before? It scares me!!

Personally I'd much prefer a general anaesthetic - I've had a few and it's just like drifting off to sleep; then you wake up and it's all over. I had a bit of nausea once, but it didn't last long. You might feel a bit tired for the rest of the day and you'll need someone to stay with you, but honestly, I'd choose a GA every time!

jennyv16 · 18/09/2021 09:13

@RedPandaFluff Okay that's reassuring! I've never had one before so I'm anxious about it. Good to know it's not bad! Thank you x

Ah bless you. This is really dragging on isn’t it! I’ve had 4 GAs now. Super easy, no effort at all. So relaxing! Xx

Just to bring this thread to a conclusion for anyone reading it in the future... I had my surgery yesterday under general anaesthetic. It was so much better than I was expecting and I needn't have been so scared. Hopefully that draws a line under it all now. I have to go back in a week for a blood test to check my HCG levels and then take a pregnancy test in 3 weeks to confirm it's negative.

Hopefully will be referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic now too.

Hi
I'm hoping to get some advice/know what to expect.
I wasn't aware I was pregnant until Saturday just gone, and prior to that I had, had spotting, which I thought was my period starting - I think this might of just been the implantation, however I had quite a big bleed on the Wednesday prior to me finding out. It leaked through my pants onto my jeans, I've also had a large bleed on Tuesday just gone - I wasn't wearing any pants but it was IMO a lot of blood. It went all down my leg and through my trousers too. I do have photos if that would help? On both occasions before the bleed I had a lot of "period pain"

The GP won't refer me for a scan yet as I'm not six weeks pregnant

I've kept a log of the bleeding

Bleeding

Was due to start period 27th October
28th October - Light period. Normal first day, then came off after one day.
30th October - Spotting. Light pink.
3rd November - Gush of blood. Bright red. Enough to form puddle in pants and soak through underwear.

6th November - Positive test
9th November - Spotting @ first. Light pink.
Sudden gush of blood. Bright red.
Light pink when wiping. Stopped for an hour.
Bright red when wiping @ night time.
10th November. Still red when wiping. Little bit of stringy clots. Only in morning.
11th November - no blood.

@Taurusmom I’m so so sorry you’ve been through this. Sending you a hug & prayer. Truly awful. Be kind to yourself xoxox

jennyv16 · 11/11/2021 11:14

Hi @LaurieBump. Sorry you've been through similar. It's very stressful.

I would ring the EPU (early pregnancy unit) at your local hospital and ask to be seen by them. You don't need to go through your GP. They should be able to take a blood test to see if your HCG level is high enough to scan you. If not, they may do repeat HCG blood tests to see how your levels are doing. Whether they are rising, falling or rising but too slowly.

Please push to get checked out.

Take care x
