Ovulation after MC

Hi everyone, I had a MC at 6 weeks on 06/04 passed naturally with bleeding finishing after 7 days. We decided to start trying again straight away so have been using OPK’s as I did before this pregnancy. Usually get positive OPK on day 16 like clockwork but CD18 today and not even a hint. I know it’s early days still but for those who do use OPKs/temp when did you first ovulate after MC? I’ve started temping too which was a bit erratic at first but I was taking a hot water bottle to bed and getting hot so not worried about that too much.

Thanks in advance.

This would also be of interest to me, I had mc on 19/4, never had heavy bleed, just more spotting with a few small clots.
Today, so far is the first day of no bleeding and no idea whether to wait for a period then track or to start using opk now??

EmsTTC · 24/04/2021 19:56

Hi @Haiyaa and @Katierose34, I’m sorry to hear about your recent MCs, I also MCd on the 10/4 at 5+3 and had 8 days of bleeding. I have been using CB ovulation tests and have had a flashing smiley (high fertility) for the last 4 days (CD 12, 13, 14 and 15) but no peak yet. Just thought I’d drop in and add my experience so far in case it’s helpful. I got a negative pregnancy test really quickly, 3 days into my MC, so just thought I’d carry on TTC without waiting a cycle and see how it goes.

catinthehat12 · 25/04/2021 14:39

Just posted something so similar on conception forum, forgot about here where it would have been much more appropriate.

I am in same situation as @Katierose34 as miscarried on 18/04, only just stopped bleeding really however I have OPK’d throughout. It has been incredibly positive for the past week as expected, only now is it becoming less than 1:1 with control. I was a MMC at 9 weeks, measuring only 6 weeks, but had the full miscarriage on 9+6, so would expect my levels to be higher than yours. Do you have cheap OPKs? I have been using them daily just to monitor when it drops after the pregnancy and when it’ll peak again. I only had my first almost negative HPT today too, still faintly there so it’s just what the OPK is picking up on making it so high.

catinthehat12 · 25/04/2021 14:40

@Katierose34 just realised you didn’t see how far you were, had misread, apologies. How far along were you?

Katierose34 · 25/04/2021 15:35

I was only 6+5. We were trying for about 6months so it kind of feels like 'back to the drawing board'

sleepysoozy · 25/04/2021 15:37

I'm in the same situation as you so am going to follow this xxx

Haiyaa · 25/04/2021 17:08

Seems like there are a few of us in the same boat, sorry for your losses. It’s really hard when you are trying to emotionally recover from a MC but if you are like me, the only thing that will make it better is a healthy pregnancy ASAP.

My OPK has registered “high” today in my Femometer app but nowhere near what I would normally see as a peak so hoping I will get that over the next day or two. Will keep you updated.

Maybe we can all keep each other updated :)

I am still bleeding from my miscarriage which started last monday/Tuesday so nearly at a week. When did you start to track ovulation again?

I have a scan tomorrow to confirm and was going to ask then x

Katierose34 · 25/04/2021 17:28

I am still bleeding aswell, although more just spotting but that's all it ever was. Today though it is much more brown coloured so I assume it is tailing off.
@Haiyaa yes I feel the same, want to be pregnant and healthy ASAP. I haven't started using opk yet but as soon as I stop bleeding I intend to.
I'm very anxious to be pregnant again incase of another MC.
I already have a 12 and 10 yo from a previous marriage.
Does anyone else have other children?

sleepysoozy · 25/04/2021 17:54

Unfortunately not. This was my first pregnancy. I'm already a nervous person and just know I'm going to live in fear until the day I give birth to a healthy bub. Hopefully it will happen for us.

I also have potential endometriosis which may make everything more... rough. (not fully diagnoses as they don't want to do any op while we are trying to concieve) xxxxx

Haiyaa · 25/04/2021 19:00

Yes, one DD conceived first try. Stupidly I hoped it would be that easy again.

I started OPK again when I had nearly finished bleeding on day 8 as I didn’t want to miss anything. Wouldn’t have done any earlier due to infection risk and I wasn’t really feeling up for dtd either. I’m still not super into it at the moment tbh but hoping that ovulation hormones will take care of that.

@sleepysoozy can’t they check you for endo during your follicular phase? Or maybe just have a month off for the opportunity to get some answers?

Unfortunately the only way to be certain is having a laposcopy and they don't want to so anything like that when trying to concieve. I almost don't want to know :(

catinthehat12 · 25/04/2021 19:51

@Haiyaa Glad to see you’re getting close to a positive OPK. From what I have seen most people ovulate slightly later post miscarriage and you also have confirmed that. I similarly to you get a positive OPK on CD16/17 standardly so will not panic if things are slightly later this time.

Also sad so many of us in the same boat. Good luck to you all this time around! I know it’s early days but I have comforted myself by thinking I could be 1 week pregnant currently. Obviously we conceive at 2 weeks and then don’t implant until 3 weeks so it doesn’t really count Blush, but one of my biggest struggles is not being pregnant anymore and that change in identity so this helps. This was my first pregnancy so no other children.

Katierose34 · 25/04/2021 20:24

Can I ask, when I seen the midwife when I was scanned to confirm mc she said to count the 1st day of miscarriage bleeding as day 1 of my new cycle. Was anyone else told this?

sleepysoozy · 25/04/2021 20:32

@katierose34 I have my scan tomorrow so I can ask x

Katierose34 · 25/04/2021 22:44

Thank you @sleepysoozy. I don't know how you can track from 1st day of bleeding from a mc? I assume to wait til bleeding has totally stopped or I feel comfortable to dtd again and if it's before a next proper period then use opks.

bages1977 · 26/04/2021 00:32

Hi guys

I had a MC on 29 March and was 6 weeks pregnant. I bled for 8 days and think I may have ovulated around 16 days after the MC started. My AF is due imminently, in fact it should have started either yesterday or today but no sign of it yet.

I'll let you guys know how it all goes in the next week and it may be helpful for you guys if I can establish a rough timeline of mine seen as I seem to be a couple of weeks ahead of you guys.

Sorry for all your losses. Wishing us all the luck for the future 🌈

bages1977 · 26/04/2021 00:34

@Katierose34 I was told to treat the first day of MC as day 1 too but then other nurses and midwifes said that it isn't accurate as you will still have hcg in your system at this point. So basically your hcg levels will have had to lower enough for your body to register your not pregnant before preparing to ovulate again.

I mean, not sure what to believe as people say so many different things

Haiyaa · 26/04/2021 07:57

Sorry for your loss @bages1977, were you trying this month? Do you know when you would normally ovulate?

I’ve counted first day of bleeding as CD1 but I suppose that is why it feels we are ovulating late if we still had small amounts of HCG in our systems.

Hope your scan goes ok @sleepysoozy and it isn’t too stressful.

OP posts:
bages1977 · 26/04/2021 09:27

@Haiyaa I would usually ovulate around CD13 so really I should have started my period by now on a normal month. However, I still had hcg in my system when I had blood tests 5 days after MC so unsure when that returned to normal.

We haven't been trying this month but we said if it happens it happens. I think we only dtd 3 times out of the whole month and they've been more recently more than around suspected ovulation. I have tender boobs atm but I always get those on the second half of my cycle. It's all a guessing game atm.

I suspect I'll be getting AF this week so I'll let you all know how it goes

EmsTTC · 26/04/2021 11:21

Fingers crossed for you @bages1977 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I’ve had my peak on day 16/17 so seem to be ovulating along a similar timeline to you which is only a couple of days later than normal for me. Hopefully everyone in this thread gets their peak soon as well and we can all be on our way to BFPs

Katierose34 · 26/04/2021 12:32

So my bloods came back today and instead of hcg decreasing it has increased. Gone from 350 to 590.
Nurse said I have to do bloods on Thursday again and see if hcg has dropped any.
Instead of a complete mc as originally thought they are now saying pregnancy could be in an unknown location and just to wait and see what next bloods show. Anyone else been in a similar position?

bages1977 · 26/04/2021 12:59

@EmsTTC yeah we do sound like we're running on a similar track! Fingers crossed for us all. We will all get there eventually. As much I'd I'd rather no one ever has to go through a miscarriage, at least when it does happen for us, we will appreciate it more than ever!

@Katierose34 I've not been through that but I really hope things turn out ok for you! Has the bleeding stopped? You will have to keep us updated. Sending love

Katierose34 · 26/04/2021 13:21

No it's not stopped but has tapered right off. Its more brown like old blood and only when I wipe. I'm noticing a cottage cheese (sorry tmi) like consistency through it with little white lumps. Midwife said it could be an infection and to see about it on Thursday when I go for bloodsHmm
