Threatened miscarriage at 5weeks??

Can anyone share with me their experiences? I feel lost and probably that a miscarriage is imminent but I'll share from the beginning.
I've had endometriosis in the past with ablation and had my DS. we started trying again and I have had 2 very early losses in October and November and found out I was pregnant on boxing day. I did pregnancy tests every day out of anxiety that I would lose and they consistently got stronger and stronger. I got up this morning for work and went to the bathroom and a small amount of thick dark brown/red blood passed. I phoned NHS 24 and basically told it is potentially a threatened miscarriage as there are no cramps and no further bleeding at that time. I went to bed as completely emotionally drained and when I have been to the bathroom I have had spotting and light bleeding. I will add I have some minor pain around my hips/pelvic area.

Can anyone else tell me their experience of this...bad or good? I am devastated and prepared for the worst as I truelly believe there is something clinically wrong preventing me carrying a pregnancy.

Just to update if anyone will read this, I spotted yesterday evening and have been wearing a pad overnight which has nothing new on it. I feel some lower back pain today. I am hoping the GP is open tomorrow to get bloods taken.

Hey OP. I'm sorry no one saw this to respond to yesterday. I had bleeding at 5 and a half weeks, called my GP and was sent to the EPU for an early scan. It was too early for a heart beat so I had to go back 2 weeks later. I had some quite bad pain for 3 weeks which was waking me in the night. Fortunately for me baby was doing fine but it was a nerve wracking time. I hope you are able to arrange something with your GP to put your mind at rest and check on baby. Something that helped me was knowing that whatever happened I couldn't change the outcome. It allowed me to "let go" a bit. Thoughts are with you, and big hugs.

OP the not knowing is just awful, I had dark brown spotting on/off for 2 weeks, it never got heavier and never needed a pad. I went for a scan and they couldnt see anything, took my bloods 48hrs apart and it was confirmed I was having a miscarriage. My bleeding had stopped by this point but really picked up a few days later. I'm keeping everything crossed for you. Everyone is different X

LuluF91 · 03/01/2021 08:31

Thankyou both for posting 💓 I so wish that it will be ok but I am entirely pessimistic about it, especially with my history. I basically was told they wouldn't scan me as there is nothing to see at this stage and due to covid... but the thought of having a long drawn out miscarriage is awful. I feel terrified to even move.

I thought I had updated here since this morning. I had a small amount of bleeding (hard to say how much as it was in the toilet) this morning and very minor spotting when wiping. My husband brought up a valid point that I had my dates totally mixed up with DS as I was sure I'd had a period but it potentially was this. I would really like a blood test done but not open until Tuesday. I also did a pregnancy test, the fainter one is yesterday and stronger one today. I know its not the most reliable indicator but could it mean my HCG is still rising and everything could be ok??

I’m in a similar position at the moment.
I took a test 4 days before what I thought was my last period and it came back negative. My period then came on time so I assumed I wasn’t pregnant. A week ago I started bleeding like never before. It was so heavy with clots. Lasted around 4 hours and then stopped. I called the doctor and he said it sounded like a miscarriage. He told me to take a test as it should still show a faint line. I took a test and there was the line. Since then I have taken two more tests and and the line got darker. Today a digital one has me at 3+
I now have nausea and other symptoms I experienced with my first pregnancy. It’s messing with my mind.

Is there a chance my baby is still in there or is my body playing tricks on me?

LuluF91 · 03/01/2021 16:58

That sounds really confusing for you. I would assume with such heavy bleeding, clots etc that it would be a miscarriage but I think the only answer is going to be through a HCG blood test or scan?

SamLDN · 03/01/2021 18:11

I know,
I had come to terms with the fact it was a miscarriage but then the tests being a strong positive a week later and the pregnancy symptoms are messing me.
I’ve literally spent the last 48 hours online searching for similar stories.
Going to try and get refereed for a scan tomorrow.

LuluF91 · 03/01/2021 18:46

Sounds like such a torturous week for you. Please let me know how your scan goes. I have read of bleeds like yours which haven't ended badly but I would hate for you to get your hopes up and it turn out not to be. I am feeling every little niggle right now and panicking it will be blood but nothing so far.

Hi

From my experience, for 3 mornings i had spotting bleeding (no bleeding during the day) and then the following day heavy bleeding with clots.. I also had period like cramping pains. Luckily i was able to get a scan that day which did unfortunately confirm no heartbeat.

Sometimes bleeding in early pregnancy can be infact normal! Are you experiencing cramping pains like period pains? Unfortunately the only way to confirm really is a scan.

A pregnancy test can test positive for up to 3 weeks after a miscarriage (even with surgical intervention) so i would not rely on pregnancy tests.

Fingers crossed

LuluF91 · 03/01/2021 19:21

Thankyou for sharing your experience. What confuses me is the lack of pain. I have a bit of right sided niggle...if that is a good word for it. But again, like you I had spotting this morning and nothing until now where it has happened again. I thought it was tapering off but I wonder if it will be more like what you have gone through.

It is a very confusing experience and the not knowing what’s happening is the worse part!!!

I thought the same , no bleeding all day so must just be ‘left over bleeding’ but every morning (3 mornings) woke up with spotting. I did however have the cramping from day 1 of bleeding and it seem to gradually get worse day by day.

Are you able to get a scan? I think they only scan from 6weeks onwards ...

LuluF91 · 03/01/2021 22:12

3 mornings seems to be a pattern. I feel it seems a little worse this evening, this nagging pain i have so I'm expecting the worst tomorrow. I probably won't get a scan as I phoned OOH and they said no and the GP is closed tomorrow anyway. I will only go if light bleeding only persists but if I start getting heavy then I will know. They agreed to do investigations as this will be the third time. I asked last time for investigations as I was referred for infertility prior to DS but now I have him I got palmed off with miscarriages are normal.

I think something is going to happen soon. My pregnancy test from today is dramatically different from yesterday. I didn't manage to use FMU with this one but still doesn't look good. I still have no cramps and no spotting this morning yet.

I am now keeping my fingers crossed for the both of us. Have you booked a scan? I have one in for Friday...

LuluF91 · 05/01/2021 03:09

I have nothing booked as of yet. I am phoning the GP today and maby they will refer me for a scan or do bloods that will just tell me if its over. I have woken up (3am) feeling incredibly sick and immediately had a light bleed. Its not enough to fill a pad and without clots which I'm hoping means baby is still there...maby. Friday seems so long to wait for you, I hope it will be good news xxx

So my GP has been rather kind but also very clear about my situation. He says he feels it is still a threatened miscarriage, he is reassured by my tests staying positive despite bleeding for 4 days and his plan going ahead is to possibly expect this to continue for the week and review with a plan to scan at 8 weeks.

OP posts:
SamLDN · 06/01/2021 19:31

I took another test today! Still a strong positive... I keep reading stories online though of people who’s test stayed positive for up to 7 weeks!! So I’m not feeling hopeful.

Time has literally frozen waiting for friday to come.
I’m preparing for the worst but there is still a small part of me that feels like a miracle could happen x

LuluF91 · 06/01/2021 21:39

I feel your pain there! The dr says he feels the tests are good sign so I just keep telling myself that. I've kept my test from Saturday to compare my daily tests with and they are all blazing positives ( it is excessive but it eases my anxiety somewhat) So I've got a bit of hope! I'm prepared for the worst but I'm trying to be rational now as many women bleed throughout and they have been ok. I hope for the both of us it will work out.

LuluF91 · 07/01/2021 19:33

The bleeding has stopped! Such a relief...now to wait and see if it's ok. I think I'm just going to bypass the GP and phone my midwife on Monday and see what she thinks.

I don't mean to frightened you but this sounds like when I had my ectopic pregnancies. I had similar bleeding, positive pregnancy tests, all the symptoms and a right sided niggling pain in my hip. It wasnt very painful at all more like constant ovulation pain. And would come and go. Both times I had to fight to be seen and have bloods and scans done. The first time I was even misdiagnosed as a mc just by bloodwork and told it would resolve Its self. Told to test a week after bleeding stops. Anyway long story short 3 weeks later and after another go appt I finally got a scan and told it was ectopic. I was incredibly lucky.

If it doesn't feel right push to be seen. Be your own advocate. I hope all goes well for you. As a pp said bleeding in early pregnancy can be completely normal.

Rtmhwales · 07/01/2021 19:59

I also don't want to cast shadow on your hopes but the pregnancy tests darkening doesn't necessarily mean much. I got my strongest positive well after I'd had my miscarriage and D&C, so there wasn't even anything left to cause it and my blood hcg was going down. It just seemed to vary after 4weeks/missed period how dark it would be depending on the day. But you could be fine. DS I had lots of bleeding, no pain, threatened miscarriage and healthy baby.

Itsjustme3 · 08/01/2021 20:12

How are you doing today?

SamLDN · 09/01/2021 08:24

Try and stay positive.

I posted on a separate thread and received so many positive stories and it really helped.

I went for my scan yesterday and the baby is fine. I’m 6 weeks and 6 days and there is a strong heartbeat!

Turns out my bleeding was down to a subchorionic hematoma. They showed me on the screen. It hopefully will go on its own and not affect the pregnancy at all.

It’s still early days but I honestly thought there was NO WAY the baby survived the amount of bleeding I had but I was wrong. Right now I’m at the same risk as anyone else at 7 weeks.

Sending you love, light and positivity for your scan.
