Someone help? Stressed about Ectopic/PUL

Hey ladies.

I'm looking for someone who's going/gone through what I'm going through right now.

I was approx 8 weeks pregnant when I started experiencing abdominal pain. It wasn't severe but enough for me to notice. I booked a private scan however the sonographer couldn't locate my pregnancy through a TVS and advised I go to A&E to hopefully rule out ectopic pregnancy.

At A&E they conducted various tests which all came back fine however my HCG levels were very low (129). They called me back in the next day for another 3 TVS with different clinicians. None of them could find my little bean sad. They said it's a PUL with likelihood of ectopic.

They have put me on expectant management. My HCG levels have been dropping (72) then to (46) 48 hours later.

I haven't had any severe abdominal pain, spotting or bleeding or any shoulder tip pain.

It's hard not to worry, for my health & my pregnancy. I've learnt to accept that the outcome for my pregnancy isn't positive due to dropping HCG but the wait inbetween appointments and uncertainty is killing me sad. If anyone has been through this could you please share your experience.

It would be much appreciated.

Thankyou xx

Maybe give 111 a call / EPU/ Gynaecology (which ever your trust prefers ) I didn't bleed a lot at all with my ectopic but as said I had very sharp / intense pressure pain in my ovary area but not constantly

bunnyrabbit93 · 01/01/2018 21:21

As PP said trust your instincts. I was told by 4 doctors including a consultant gynaecologist that I was probably having a miscarriage or just pregnancy stretching pains.

bluebird3 · 02/01/2018 00:05

Hi OP.

I had something similar a few months ago. When I started to bleed the cramps/pains were quite sharp but only lasted a few hours. If it's worse than that I'd ring for advice. I think it's unlikely to rupture at low hcg levels but better to be safe.

I had bloods taken 12 times over a period of 6-7 weeks. My hcg levels stagnated at about 50 for 4 weeks before finally dropping on their own.

Hope you're ok today.

moomin11 · 02/01/2018 00:26

I would definitely get checked out given the pain has got worse, it's better to be safe than sorry. And not all cases are 'typical' - I was really worried about ectopic and went to the hospital only to be told it definitely wasn't because of my hcg levels and as I appeared to be coping with the pain. They were wrong and I'm glad I trusted my instincts. Hope you're ok.

Georgina14 · 02/01/2018 10:43

Morning Ladies,

Thankyou for all your advice. I called the EPU and they’ve called me in for a scan. I’ll keep you guys posted on the outcome. I hope it’s just my body going back to normal. Fingers crossed x

Good luck @Georgina14, hope the scan goes ok!

I actually bled with mild cramps throughout my ectopic but my hormones were steadily decreasing so I think this was the pregnancy ending on its own.

moomin11 · 02/01/2018 18:31

Glad they're looking into it x

bunnyrabbit93 · 04/01/2018 22:26

Hope it all went okay OP Thanks

MrsMoose0 · 05/01/2018 19:31

Sorry, just catching up on this. Hope you're ok OP and you got some answers from your scan?

To answer your question my latest bloods have were 80 last week and 19 this week. So close to 10 now but I daren't let myself believe it'll all be done next time.

Take care of yourself Flowers

Hey guys,

Thankyou for wishing me well & looking out for me. It has been a rollscoaster ride. I went in for a scan & the sonographer refereed me for a scan with a specialist consultant. Unfortunately they didn’t have any in so they wanted to admit me for the night so I could get scanned first thing in the morning + my HCG Levels had risen from 23 to 34. I opted to go home & get scanned the next day. I had 3 people scan me and none of them could find the pregnancy. The consultant insisted we remain on the expectant management pathway, however only if my HCG dropped within the next 48hours, otherwise We would have to consider methotrexate or surgery. I had a blood test yesterday and fortunately they’ve dropped again to 20. It’s been one hell of a rollacoaster. I wouldn’t wish this on any one. x

Thanks for the update. That all sounds very scary but good to know you're doing alright and pleased for you that you managed to avoid any intervention. Sending support x

kate288 · 07/01/2018 00:03

That sounds so tough, you've been through so much. Really hope your bloods continue to drop from now on.

Georgina14 · 11/01/2018 01:37

Constant mild cramping, it’s just super annoying now. Thankyou for the support ladies xx

I'm a bit flustered after reading this thread now. I have had 1 MC at 8+3 and 4 chemical pregnancies (lost them early on 4-6 weeks). All within the space of a year and a half.
Now, with my last early loss I was in hospital with really bad pain and bleeding. I heard the duty Doctor say she suspected it was a ectopic to one of her colleagues, but nobody ever told me what had happened to me. Then I had numerous follow up appointments at the EPU (early pregnancy unit) where the nurses took my blood to check that my HGC was dropping as it should. It wasn't dropping as fast as it should and I had to go back every day for about a week to get my bloods taken to check HGC was dropping until I got discharged.
Did I have a ectopic? 🤔

Fingers crossed things are moving in the right direction now Georgina, it's so hard with all the waiting isn't it.

RedWine I wouldn't have thought so if they didn't tell you it was, and I had to have bloods done every other day with both my mc and ectopic so I think it's standard for both. Sorry for your losses x

RedWineAllMine · 11/01/2018 13:35

Ah thanks for insight moomin. Sorry for your losses too. X
Sorry for everyone's losses on these type of threads.

Georgina14 · 12/01/2018 00:18

@RedWineAllMine sorry for your loss too Hunni! I would like to answer that for you but I’m no professional so wouldn’t want to misguide you. Hope you’re well xx

@moonin11 thankyou Hunni! It’s very very hard. Fortunately they’ve dropped to 14 today. It’s the waiting between appointments that’s irritating but I guess we can’t make our bodies work any faster than they want to ey xx

Also, has anyone had this weird feeling of discomfort from your abdomen to your rectum (sorry TMI). This ectopic pregnancy has really had my body acting funny. Did you guys get any symptoms whilst your ectopic pregnancies were resolving themselves? xx

😢 so sorry to hear your news. I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2005. I was 6 weeks pregnant. I didn't know I was pregnant and had been bleeding for 2 weeks prior to abdominal pains. I had sudden, horrendous pain twice and ended up in A and E early in the morning. My HCG levels were high. I had a scan the day before and they couldn't see anything. In the end I had a camera inserted in my belly button, had keyhole surgery to remove my Fallopian tube because it was badly damaged. Take care x

Twiggle81 · 12/01/2018 01:01

After my ectopic I was diagnosed with PCOS. I had fertility treatment with chlomid tablets. I have successfully had 3 beautiful children even with PCOS and one Fallopian tube so there is hope. My daughter is nearly 11 and was conceived with the treatment, my boys are 3 and 2 and conceived naturally. I hope the discomfort eases and you are ok x

Georgina14 · 12/01/2018 01:13

Sorry to hear about your loss! But happy to hear about your success story! It’s made me smile knowing that there is hope, Thankyou soo much xx

Georgina bless you. I can't offer advice on eptopic as it seems I probably didn't have one.
But with all of my losses, after the bleeding had stopped my pain went. I didn't bleed for long, was more of a heavy period. Just a few days.
It's great that your HGC is down to 14 (not sure if great is the correct term to use, but you know what I mean) your body is slowly getting back to its normal self. I hope no damage has been done.
But it seems there is hope with the success stories on here.
I decided to take a break in April last year as it all got too much, n I decided to try again in December but AF decided to show up! So I didn't even conceive even tho I got my ovulation dates correct. I didn't understand that, as every time I DTD on ovulation I got pregnant. But I guess it doesn't happen every time. But I will be sure to keep an eye on things.
When do you think you will try again?
Whoever said having a baby is easy?! It's one of the hardest and emotional things I ever tried to do. X

moomin11 · 12/01/2018 19:57

I had discomfort where the ectopic was even when my hcg levels were really low after medical management, it worried me at the time but they said the tube was stretched/bruised so would feel sore for a while. I think it took a month for my levels to be 0 after they diagnosed my ectopic it felt like forever. You just want to get back to 'normal', and stop being stuck with a needle every other day!
