How long did it take for a negative test after miscarriage?

I'm so frustrated right now and just want it to be over 😔. At my early reassurance scan it showed my baby had no heartbeat at 7 weeks. I went to the epu the following week who said there was no longer a foetal pole and just an irregular shaped sac. After consulting a doctor they said my best option was conservative management and sent me home. I have now been spotting and having a pink discharge for the past 3 weeks but no actual bleed. Epu told me to prepare for pain and bleeding with clots which I've not had. I would have been 10 weeks this week and took a test today and got a strong positive which I would've expected to at least have started to fade by this point.
I've called epu but they've insisted I must wait another two weeks for my body to miscarry the sac naturally, but this is causing me a great deal of distress. I am really trying to be patient but I feel until this is over I can't really move on.
Can anyone tell me how long it took from the start of miscarriage to get a negative pregnancy test? It's so strange that after longing for a BFP I'm now so desperate for a BFN.

Oh that's good to know they've dropped that much in 48 hours. I'm not feeling anywhere near as bloated today too. Maybe the tiny bleed I had yesterday may have sorted things out a bit. Hoping for a negative test on Wednesday so I can cancel my blood test on Thursday...like you I'm so darn bruised! Every time I go for a blood test I seem to have at least 2 or 3 people try to get blood (tiny veins that no one can seem to find!)
Last time I came out having had both hands and both arms done, looked like I'd been in a fight with all the bruising!
Hope your levels drop back down to normal for your next test...seems things are moving for you though :)

Cantamendusername · 19/07/2017 16:55

@mummyjl15 how are you doing? The hospital have discharged me now as my levels dropped to 199 so they don't think it's an ectopic. I'm going to wait to take a test I'm sick of seeing positive tests, and I never though I'd say that!

I'm exactly the same! Had another positive pregnancy test today so I'll still be going back for my blood test tomorrow :( really hoping for good news like you! That's great your levels have dropped to that, hopefully in another week you'll be back to normal Smile

Hi, can anyone help. I'm totally frustrated and confused and just don't know what to do for the best. I had to go for an early scan due to having some brown bleeding. It weren't much only slight but when I went to the scan they told me they could see sac and yolk but no baby and it was measuring at just under 6 weeks. By my dates I should have been around 10 or 8 from my test date. They asked if I was certain of my dates which I was. I did a positive test on the 20th May a couple of days before my period was due. After the internal I continued to bleed very lightly again brown not red for about 4 days. They booked me in for another scan in 2 weeks which I had today but still no sign of baby but sac is still round and yolk still visible. I've also done another pregnancy test which is as strong as ever. They discussed my options with me regarding wait 3 weeks, the tablet etc. Has anyone else had this? Everyone I've spoken to either their sac had deflated when they had their second scan or had a lot of bright red blood loss. Maybe I'm hoping for something that's never going to happen but just don't want to go to the next step to help the sac come away if there is any slight chance 😔

Hi Louise3891 sorry to hear you're going through this. I have a slightly different experience as when I went for an early scan at 6 weeks due to having some bleeding and losing some tissue there was no sign of a pregnancy at all. However my hcg levels were too low to have seen anything anyway. Long story short im having a miscarriage unfortunately. I started bleeding 3 weeks ago today and even this morning I've still had a strong positive pregnancy test as there's still some tissue left. Have you had a blood test to check what your hcg levels are doing? They should have offered to do this followed by another one 48 hours later to see how they're changing.

mummyjl15 · 20/07/2017 19:28

So I had my blood test this morning and hcg levels have dropped by 100 in a week, now at 378. Such a long drawn out horrible experience! Just want this miscarriage to be over now so I can move on and try again!
Next blood test in a week. My 6th one since my miscarriage started 3 weeks ago. Hopefully I'll get a negative pregnancy test before then though so I don't need to go!

Louise3891 · 20/07/2017 19:46

No, no blood test has been offered. Said the best option is to just wait another 3 weeks and then have another follow up scan or if I prefer I can book an appointment for the tablet to dilate my cervix. I certainly agree that it's such a long drawn out situation. Feels like it's never ending doesn't it x

mummyjl15 · 20/07/2017 20:06

That's really odd that they're giving you those options. The waiting in itself is a horrible thing to go through, mentally as well as physically.
I had a friend ask me when I'm due today as I've got a small bump which looks exactly like I'm pregnant, it's so horrible looking and feeling pregnancy but knowing it's a failing pregnancy.
I don't know what to suggest but it seems odd to me that they've not offered to do bloods to check your hcg levels.

Louise3891 · 20/07/2017 20:28

To be honest that's what is worrying me. Everyone seems to have their levels checked after reading so many things today. I didn't know that was the norm at the time else I would have mentioned it today to her. I had a bump too, so people keep looking and don't know what to say. Just such an awkward situation. I'm so desperate to try again too as it took me two years to get to this point and I feel like time is running out. I hope you're feeling better soon and can focus on starting again x

Cantamendusername · 20/07/2017 21:10

@mummyjl15 it's good that your levels are dropping even if it is slower than you would like at least you know there's some progression.

I'm now on day 38 of my miscarriage, I'm not going to take a test until next week as mine have still been positive.

@Louise3891 I'm so sorry you're going through this. I waited to miscarry naturally, I would definitely ask for a blood test as that will give you some indication as to whether the pregnancy is failing x

mummyjl15 · 23/07/2017 06:54

@Cantamendusername how are you getting on? Have you done a pregnancy test yet?
I just had 2 full days of light period type bleeding (much heavier than spotting) so when it stopped last night I thought I'd take another test this morning...just in case that was it....STILL STRONG POSITIVE!! It's been over 3 weeks for me now. So sick of playing the waiting game!

Louise3891 · 23/07/2017 07:49

Mine has been 3 weeks since I found out too and I've still had no bleeding, no cramps, still strong positive tests. I even enquired about a private scan yesterday because I'm just driving myself insane but then think am I just being stupid. Maybe if they had offered me a blood test to check my levels I would of had a better idea. My partner wants me to ring the hospital tomorrow to ask to book me in for the tablet to move me a long but I'm still so scared in case they've got it wrong. I honestly feel like I'm going crazy 😢

Cantamendusername · 23/07/2017 07:55

I'm so sorry you're going through this, its so frustrating when you just want to move on. It's coming up to almost 6 weeks for me now, I did a test this morning and got a very faint positive so I'm hoping it's not going to be too much longer.
Have you had a follow up scan? I was told I'd need to be scanned again if I still had a positive test at 3 weeks post miscarriage, mine were also strong positive tests.

OP posts:
mummyjl15 · 23/07/2017 10:54

Oh really? No that hasn't been offered to me...I'll ask them when I go for my next lot of bloods on Thursday. So frustrating isn't it?! And you've been waiting a lot longer than me! Hopefully as you only got a faint positive things are progressing.
I can't wait to try again, so desperate for a baby! This whole experience has been mentally and physically draining. I'm so emotional at the moment, everytime someone asks if I'm ok or 'so when are you having another one' i just break down in tears! Sad
Crossing everything for this all to be over soon and hopefully my period will come quickly so we can try again after. Really wanted to have a bump at Christmas (that was the plan when I started taking conception tablets in January anyway!). If I see anyone with a baby I feel so angry which I know is stupid...must be the pregnancy hormones lingering Hmm

CremeDeSudo · 23/07/2017 13:23

Afternoon ladies

Sorry to hear everyone's stories. I'm currently waiting for my miscarriage to happen naturally after my early scan showed no heart beat last week.

I don't think I can wait. Especially after reading this thread! Am going to call tmw and ask for surgical management I think.

I'm wondering what the worry is over the BFN? Do we need to get one before trying again?

mummyjl15 · 23/07/2017 14:20

Hi @CremeDeSudo sorry to hear your news. I personally decided to wait and have a natural miscarriage as the other options available to me meant I had to wait 3 months before being able to try again. I know lots of women who get pregnant before they have a period but it's recommended to wait until you've had a period after a miscarriage.

From what I understand though, until your hormone levels have gone back down to normal you won't ovulate anyway, hence why myself and @Cantamendusername are waiting for a BFN.

I know it's different for everyone, my friend had a miscarriage that was all over within a week and she had a period straight away then was pregnant within a few weeks. Unfortunately it's just taking a lot longer than I hoped it would for me Sad

CremeDeSudo · 23/07/2017 15:44

Thanks for the quick response. Is that standard then? D&C means wait 3mths? Any ideas why?

I didn't realise that with HCG levels - this is my first MC and was blissfully unaware of all this a wk ago!

I'm scared of it taking ages but also don't want to have to wait 3 months!

mummyjl15 · 23/07/2017 17:13

That's what I was told at the EPU but I could be wrong! Another friend of mine had a D+C a week ago and is still waiting for her hcg levels to back to normal.
My first MC too and it's been an awful experience, the worst part has been the waiting around. I sort of got my head around losing the baby a few days after it happened but 3 weeks on and still waiting for it all to be over.

I think everyone is different though, when I had my scan after having some bleeding at 6.5wks there was no sign of a pregnancy in my uterus but there was a shadow in one of my tubes so they suspected ectopic. Turns out it wasn't an ectopic but baby just didn't develop after 6 weeks and was too early to see anything anyway.

Hope you get some answers soon. Not everyone waits this long and this is longer than average apparently so you may be a lucky one but check what they would advise when you call tomorrow :)

mummyjl15 · 26/07/2017 23:03

Oh man!! Still a strong pregnancy test today Sad so I'm still going to have to have my bloods done again tomorrow. So sick of going to the hospital every week to be told 'see you next week!'..,they want to keep checking my bloods until they've dropped to under 20!! Fingers and toes crossed they've dropped a lot over the last week.
4 weeks tomorrow since my mc started Sad

How's everyone else doing?

Cantamendusername · 26/07/2017 23:20

Sad are you going to ask for a scan? Really hoping you get some good news!
I'm into week 6 now, I haven't tested again since my positive on Sunday so I'm going to test again in the morning. Feels so strange to be hoping for a BFN!

OP posts:
Cantamendusername · 27/07/2017 06:20

Good luck today @mummyjl15
Faint positive for me again today Sad

OP posts:
mummyjl15 · 27/07/2017 07:00

@Cantamendusername Oh no! I wonder why it's taking so long for our bodies to get back to normal?!

Thanks for the good luck, will let you know how I get on.

TurquoiseDress · 27/07/2017 10:23

For me it took around 3 weeks to get a negative test- 3 weeks from the day of my scan when bleeding started and approx 2.5 weeks after I took the pessaries.

mummyjl15 · 27/07/2017 11:36

Ahhh! My hcg levels are now at 233 so only dropped by another 100 in a week. Getting seriously fed up now...I was only 6 weeks when I started bleeding (4 weeks ago today!) and even then my hcg levels were under 600 so really low for that stage.
They've only just halved in 4 weeks and they should halve every 48hrs after miscarriage apparently Sad

Back again next week for more bloods. SICK OF THIS NOW!!! They wouldn't offer a second scan as my levels are too low to see anything apparently.
So desperate for a baby...I don't drink or smoke, started taking conception tablets in January to start trying in March, did everything right during TTC and pregnancy. I know miscarriage happens but why is my body taking so bloody long to get back to normal? Just want a BFN now so we can try again Sad

Cantamendusername · 29/07/2017 01:05

@mummyjl15 Sad I really feel your frustration, it's like our bodies aren't up to speed with what's happened.

Still positive tests for me, I finally cracked today and broke down. I don't think I can do this again, I've decided I won't be TTC when this is over 😢 .
