As the mum of a 4 year old ds who miscarried in April this year I find this quite interesting.

Same here Northerner. Ds was three in our case.

Like everything statistical its a small study of only 305 women, hardly a comprehensive accumulation of stats!
Of course I'd disagree though, I have first born son, then a dd, now only after having her have I had recurrent miscarriages/ectopic.

I know Piffle. Still it makes you wonder though.

Old reports indicated that, too -- I know I knew about it when pg with DS. I don't think previous reports had suggested a possible cause, though.

And, Piffle, you would potentially fit right into the pattern described in the article -- which seems to suggest that it's subsequent boy pregnancies which are likely to be affected if they are right about the cause. You did have a firstborn DS, then a DD with no problems, then recurrent m/c.

Interestingly my MIL had DH, then m/c, then SIL1, then m/c, then SIL2. She did have thyroid problems, though, which are a more likely cause than its all being DH's fault...

Also "She stressed that only a small group of women, possibly with defective immune systems, were susceptible to the problem. Most women's bodies tolerated the presence of a boy foetus with no ill-effects."

strange, i've got two boys and miscarried in between them

Three boys and a miscarriage between 1 and 2.

2 boys and a very early mc between them.

I had a girl, then had a mc then had a boy.

My Mum miscarried four boys (lost one also through Rubella), then went on to have 3 girls.

My sisters and I have all boys none of whom were lost, but you're looking at a lot of nightmare pG's... I had hyperemesis with three (to varying extents but all required medication), pre-eclampsia with eldest. Sis had pre-eclampsia with her son, has been advised not to hve another. other sis luckily went into natural labour day her Bp started to rise.....

my friend miscarried twins - 9 weeks pg - and she got 2 sons already so it make me wonder if she had twin boys !! - never know!

I have a ds and have just had a mc at 9wks.

But I guess you'd expect a mc caused by an immune response would be likely to happen quite a bit earlier than that, when the embryo attaches to your womb lining?

This is interesting - when I had my m/c at 9 weeks after ds1 I wondered if mybe the baby had been a girl as I've only had boys. Thought perhaps my body couldn't cope with girls.

I had 2 mc, then dd1, then mc then ds, then dd2, so I totally dont fit the profile at all!!!

I had a m/c in oct last tear after my ds who is 8.

sorry meant year! also my mother had 2 late m/c both boys one before me and one after then went on to have another girl, they said she was unable to carry boys for some reason?

I had 3 boys then a M/C after all 3. I took it for granted that because I had 3 healthy boys with out incident, I would carry this baby to term with no trouble so was very shocked to go on and miscarry. But whether thee stats are right or wrong, its given me an explanation. I too onder if the baby I lost was a girl...
