I just want to know what's going on

Should have been 7+1 when I went for scan last monday after spotting since friday. Bleeding got a little heavier Sunday and there was a little clotting on Monday. Since then the bleeding has gone back to spotting again (now 9 th day).

I was already fearing the worst but hopeful after reading other ladies' stories. However, they just told me there and then that there was nothing. Did an internal as well to check and nothing there either :'( Don't understand how i could have completely miscarried and not know, I thought I would have passed some tissue or something?

I was told the most likely thing was that I'd totally miscarried but they wanted to check my bloods. They were only 650 on monday (so way too low for a viable 7 wk pregnancy) and they were expecting them to drop further. They haven't. My hcg levels have been rising by about 200 every 48 hours. I now have to have another scan on monday to find out what is going on. They've told me to go to a&e if I feel unwell or have any pain.

I'm worried it's eptopic. I just want to know what's going on and for this to be over so that we can try again :(

Has anyone been through similar?

Hi I don't have any advice but I'm going through something similar and I know how you're feeling. The waiting and not knowing is almost the worst bit. I hope things get sorted for you soon Sad I'm sure someone will have some better advice for you soon

iamci · 28/04/2012 07:19

Thanks spottyteacakes, hope you get sorted too. How far along should you be?

Only 5+2 but I had a coil fitted so they don't know if it's ectopic or not, had a scan on Wednesday but they couldn't see anything

notnowImreading · 28/04/2012 08:00

It does sound like a possible ectopic pregnancy. If you had suffered a complete miscarriage, it's likely that your hormone levels would now be falling fast. However, if the EPU didn't whip you in to hospital there and then, there must still be a chance that everything is fine (ie non-ectopic, not fine to lose a baby - anything but, I know). Keep a very close eye on yourself as far as pain goes. Apparently ectopics can cause pain elsewhere in the body too eg neck, shoulder, so don't ignore any symptoms and head to A&E if you feel worse. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm sorry for your loss - I hope this part of it turns out to be just haywire hormones for you.

cakesloveme · 28/04/2012 08:12

Hey iamci, I was in a similar position last year with spotting, rising blood levels and nothing seen on first scan. I was rescanned and was found to have ectopic , they whipped me into theatre there and then to remove tube :(

I would keep on the ball with this one and push for rescan if you can. I felt reassured after the my first scan but shouldn't have been as the ectopic was missed. If your hcg levels are rising they need to be keeping a close eye on you.
I don't want to scare you, just share what sounds like a similar experience to mine.

Watch out for pain, mine was deep into my hip and radiated down my leg. I didn't have shoulder pain but watch out for this.

Wishing you much luck :)

iamci · 28/04/2012 09:29

Thanks notnowimreading and cakeslove me. I just wish I didn't have to wait till monday for next scan.

I haven't had any pain throughout. Some mild discomfort but not pain. I'd describe it more as a 'funny' feeling.

Apart from tiredness, my pregnancy symptoms have started to fade this week. breasts very rarely sore anymore. Does eptopic make any difference to pregnancy symptoms, are they different from the start?

Very aware of any twinges in my body and every tiny one makes me worry. I don't think I'm going to have a very restful wknd.

bonzo77 · 28/04/2012 09:41

can you get a private scan today? Or go to a&e and tell them you think it's ectopic? They have no choice but to take it seriously. The consequences if you were right and they ignored you are too serious.

Goofymum · 28/04/2012 23:49

I am also in a similar situation. I was 10+4 on Thursday and started bleeding. I went into the EPU on Friday and they scanned me and said they couldn't see anything at all even with a vaginal scan. They could see a little fluid in the womb and said that could be a sign of an ectopic (I don't know why). She couldn't find any signs of an ectopic in my tubes and they said they would have ruptured by now. My blood tests came back with very high HCG levels so I have been diagnosed with a pregnancy of unknown location and I am going back tomorrow for another blood test to see if the HCG levels are coming down. I am now worried in case there is an ectopic growing somewhere they haven't found but I hope I will be monitored closely. It is scary. I haven't even miscarried properly yet, just a little blood, not like a previous MC I had. I have never wished to MC so much - better that have a growing ectopic and need methotrexate or surgery. I am not in pain either. All will be clearer tomorrow evening for me hopefully. Keep is informed OP.

iamci · 29/04/2012 08:07

Bonzo77, I'm just going to wait till tomorrow and hope that, if it is eptopic, that I don't deteriorate before then. First sign of any pain though and I'll be straight there.

Goofymum, I'm sorry that you're having to go through this too. This is/was my first pregnancy so I can't compare my bleeding but it was nothing like I would expect for a mc. It never got what I would call heavy, nothing like even a normal period.

Hope you get some answers tomorrow. I'll keep you updated with what they tell me x

It could be a blighted ovum where there is nothing there but the body still thinks it is pregnant, the hormones keep rising still.
But yes if any pain at all, or shoulder pain or more bleeding, stright to A&E with you, regardless of time of day ok

So sorry :(

Goofymum · 30/04/2012 14:01

Let us know how you're feeling iamci and what happened at your scan, if you can.

Moominsarescary · 30/04/2012 14:42

I had similar with my first mc, levels rose but not enough for the pregnancy to be viable, in the end after further scans I had a d&c.

With my 2nd mc it all happened at home, I only ever had slight bleeding and didn't loose any tissue, I was sure that when I had the scan I would need some sort of medical intervention but I didn't.

Like everyone says, keep an eye in the bleeding and any pain and ring them if your concerned x

iamci · 30/04/2012 15:58

Just got out, still none the wiser. Can't see anything in my tubes though which is comforting. They did see a tiny fluid filled sac in my uterus but said that it was probably a red herring.
they've just taken my blood again x

bonzo77 · 30/04/2012 16:16

So sorry you are still in limbo. Have they said what you should do next?

iamci · 30/04/2012 18:29

Just rang up got my blood results - up again! Now at 1600. Got to ring up tomorrow and they will "come up with a plan for me."

So my levels are rising but they can't find any signs of anything. Still having what I'd call "weird" twinges and feelings in my abdomen.

OP posts:
iamci · 30/04/2012 18:35

Moomin, could anything be seen on your scan or were your levels rising with no visible pregnancy?

Goofymum, how are you feeling? Did you get blood test results back?

OP posts:
kalidasa · 30/04/2012 18:52

iamci Is it possible that you have had an early miscarriage but then conceived again? If the pregnancy was very early you'd have HCG but they wouldn't be able to see anything yet. It all sounds very stressful though, I hope they work out what's going on soon.

WhatDreamsMayCome · 30/04/2012 18:56

iamci, it's extremely rare but did they discuss the eliminating the possibility of a molar pregnancy amongst other things?

I can only go my own experience, so I hope it will be of some help. In EPU they performed a normal scan, said that it looked as though all had been passed however the HCG was still high. They gave me a leaflet on molar pregnancy and asked me to come in for another apt 10 days later to test and then gave me the option of coming in again or calling with an at home pregnancy test result about a fortnight later which then showed a negative.

Statistically, it's unlikely to be a molar (and even it is can be successfully treated when caught early) but I would think they want to see that the HCG is dropping to be completely certain. Hope you're no longer in pain. Keep us updated.

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 30/04/2012 21:05

Sounds more and more like Blighted Ovum to me iamci x

iamci · 30/04/2012 21:14

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily, I wondered if that might be the case. Would they not seea sac on the scan though? x

OP posts:
Moominsarescary · 01/05/2012 00:48

The first time was 11 years ago, so can't remember exactly but they said it looked like I was 5 weeks when I should have been nearly 7. They scanned me again a week later, and there was still no growth or hb. The week after was the same and we decided on the d&c. By that point my levels were dropping, then raising slightly again.

iamci · 01/05/2012 11:41

Just spoke to hospital again. They don't seem concerned and think that it'll probably resolve itself. I've got to go back again next tuesday got another scan and blood test.

Originally they signed me off work for two wks which even then I thought was a bit excessive. apart from being tired I feel well enough to go back to school so am considering asking to be signed back on. However, as I haven't had heavy bleeding and my hcg levels aren't dropping I am worried that I haven't fully miscarried (as they originally told me). I don't want to be in class if that is going to happen.

So, still feel in limbo. Don't really know what's going on and don't know what to do x

OP posts:
WhatDreamsMayCome · 01/05/2012 19:48

Glad that you've been reassured by the hospital. If it was there anything too much to worry about they would have wanted to see you sooner than Tuesday. Try to relax (know it's easier said than done) in the meantime, Tuesday will be here before you know it and you can get some more answers then.

iamci · 01/05/2012 20:07

Thanks whatdreamsmaycome. I've decided to just do as I was told and not go back to work till next wk. Been exhausted today so prob for the best.

I'm surprised you understood what I typed there, iamci! Meant to say if there was anything too much not 'if it was there anything'! Brain not engaging with hands!
Work can wait, get some rest and sleep.
