Iggi999 · 20/09/2011 23:21

Thanks Milkyways. I have had counselling in the past, (for PND) which overlapped with 3 of my mc - unfortunately it stopped some time ago (a charity, they have to set a time limit). I have always thought I'd request counselling from Sands or NHS when I have finally given up, at the moment I'd just be kidding myself that I'm trying to come to terms with it when all I'm really doing is desperately trying to make it work.
Going to GP tomorrow, will ask for HCG tests so I know if anything positive is happening at all. Managed to forget about it all for a couple of hours at work today, will try to be busy tomorrow to achieve the same!
Hope everyone else is doing ok.

pebspop · 21/09/2011 10:05

hi everyone

whispers congrats to iggi. are you doing anything different this time? have you got a diagnosis for why you have had the mc's in the past?

will kepp my fingers crossed for you.

still no AF for me. it's been 11 long weeks now. my temps aren't showing ov either. will see what my consultant says next week. eeekkk it's my results appointment next tuesday.

Iggi999 · 21/09/2011 22:19

Hi Pebs, hope your appointment goes well.
I don't know why I mc, I had one tested which had a trisomy so there wasn't anything I could've done for that one. I have high killer cells and am on steroids for that, also progesterone - though I was on these when I had my last mc so who knows if it will actually work. Has done for a lot of other women though!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 24/09/2011 09:55

Hi guys just wanted to post to announce the safe arrival of Thomas James born 22nd Sept weighing 8lb 12oz.

Stay positive guys, there can be a happy ending xxx

pebspop · 24/09/2011 17:18

congrats coconuts!

can't wait for my happy ending!

Iggi999 · 24/09/2011 18:20

That's lovely, and thank you for letting us know. Now go and enjoy the baby!

pebspop · 25/09/2011 10:17

went for accupuncture today since i havn't had af for 12 weeks since my mc. i am not sure if it will work but it was nice and relaxing anyway and i will be going every week for 4-6 weeks.

my chart is showing that i ov'd a couple of days ago so hoping to see af soon, my chart was showing ov a couple of weeks ago but then my temps fell again so it's changed it's mind! hope it's the real deal this time!

Iggi999 · 25/09/2011 17:23

That must be frustrating! Hope you get it soon.
I've just clicked on the thread for people expecting around the time this current pg would be due - and have had to run out again with my fingers in my ears going lalala. Lots of people talking about when the baby is born, planning the birth etc. Perhaps I was once briefly that confident, before all the mc kicked in Sad

scooterchaser · 25/09/2011 22:33

iggi rooting for you, it's so hard isn't it to listen to other people sailing through it all. I hope these early weeks start to speed by for you.

coconuts hooray that's such fabulous news! Congratulations on your lovely little boy :-)

pebs I hope the acupuncture helps and AF returns soon. Good luck with your consultant appointment next week is it?

As for me, I saw Dr S in July then got my follow up appointment brought forward from March, to November and then suddenly to this month. I came home with a scarily big bag of steroids on Friday. In the end its taken less than 5 months from initial referral to treatment on the NHS which is quicker than I imagined (I hope that's encouraging!)

For those of you this will mean something to, my NK count is ok but NK cell activity level is 1.37 when it should be 0. something. So now I have the famous prednisolone & cyclogest and just debating whether to begin this cycle - it feels like a scary prospect.

My first step is to optimistically move myself into the 'under treatment' category so I will just update on the list.....

Waving to LAF, Milky, freelance, hairy, kittens, lucky, puree and everyone else :-)

iggi i tried to join a pregnancy forum in my last pregnancy but i couldn't post with out putting a disclaimer after every thing i said of :if everything works out!! i bet the naive preggos thought i was mad!

scoot glad you have some treatment, fingers crossed for the next one!

i have my consultant appointment tomorrow so will see what happens with that.

guess what??? after i had acupuncture on saturday i got af yesterday - can you believe it! not sure if it is coincidence or what but i am glad. i will keep up the acu though as i was temping this month and didn't really see the ov rise. fertility friend thought i ov'd twice and changed it's mind as my temps didn't stay up.

Iggi999 · 26/09/2011 15:32

Hello, trying not to be too positive but my hcg levels have more than doubled so that it a move in the right direction (better than my last pg at least).
Pebs that's good about AF (though it's a reason I'm a bit concerned about accupuncture when pg!) It's nice to feel a bit in control again.
Scooter, welcome to the steroid gang! I don't know if you've seen it, there is a thread in Conception for people taking steroids (most of whom seem to be seeing Mr S). I like being on the steroids personally, very positive effect on my energy level, but not so nice coming off them if af comes.

confu3ed · 26/09/2011 22:27

Congratulations Coconuts, it is great to hear a happy ending :0)
Waves to everyone else!
After a break from ttc I am on clomid and attempting it once more (scared stupid) only difference this time is that I have to use progesterone and low dose aspirin as soon as I get a bfp. Also put myself on magnesium and selenium for the past 2 months as someone on here posted a link to an article advising this. I so hope it works! Still shocked that I only just got my test results and treatment when I had tge tests in march! Nhs!!
Also went to a Chinese doc who said my ying is imbalanced and that's what causes the mc, anyone else heard of this? She could fix me but it would cost £100 a week!
Congrats iggi, the levels doubling sounds very promising!
PebsPop great that the acupuncture helped to kick start things!

hi everyone

just back from the consultant. i found out i had blood clots in my placenta and have to take 5mg folic acid before ttc, 75mg of asprin from bfp and herapin injuections from seeing heartbeat next time i am pg.

the baby was fine and our karyotyping was normal, all the tests came back normal but they found the blood clots in the placenta anyway.

this sounds like good news to me as i have seen lots of stories on line of future pregnancies working out after using asprin and herapin.

i am going to wait until christmas to start ttc as i want to make sure my cycles are ok first.

thanks for all the help everyone, i will keep posting here to let you know how my story unfolds.

Hi pebs great news that you have a diagnosis. You must have antiphospholipid syndrome if they are putting you on heparin.

It's good that you have a time frame to work with now.

I'm pleased that the appt went well!

OP posts:
pebspop · 28/09/2011 09:27

From reading Lesley regan's book it would appear that i do have antiphospholipid syndrome although it wasn't mentioned at the meeting yesterday.

they didn't point out any of the blood tests as abnormal, they concentrated on the post mortem report which pointed out the clotting in the placenta and what they called infarction (think this is basically a bit of dead placenta).

the description of antiphospholipid syndrome in the book is exactly what has happened to me in the last pregnancy. it did concern me a bit that the name of the syndrome wasn't mentioned and i don't know if the blood tests showed it up as lesley says you should only treat if two blood test show up the problem.

i will be giving the treatment a go anyway, my consultant seemed up to date with lesley regans work - she said lesley is the main person who all consultants listen to. she had also worked in the rmc at liverpool hopsital previously.

farfallarocks · 29/09/2011 14:09

Hello (waves shyly)

Was hoping to join you all. I have not been through anything like what some of you have on here reading the stats so feel free to boot me off.

I am 31, DH 32. Have had 2 early miscarriages at 5 weeks. Seem t
get pregnant quickly but can't hang onto them for very long at all.

Some basic tests my GP has run shows low progesterone.

I know you are meant to wait until 3 but I decided to go and see and Raj Rai privately to get the ball rolling. My TSH is elevated but in the normal range at 3.9. He thinks this might be part of the problem. He has ordered lots of tests and an ultrasound.
He was pretty dismissive of any talk of NK cells which worried me a bit given the success lots of you have had on here with Mr S (I been lurking for ages!)

He did seem to think I was a good candidate for progesterone though (so perhaps their stance is changing on that) but he wants to rule everything else out first.
He has advised us to abstain this month or use protection as it looks as though I also have an 'unfussy' uterus as I am getting pregnant too frequently (he said 6-9 months is the normal range not 1/2 months)

pebspop · 29/09/2011 15:09

hi farfallarocks

i have had two mc's so don;t really fall into the recurrent catergory either but my second one was at 20 weeks so i got to have all the tests done on nhs before enduring a third. Which i would have done as my results showed i get blood clots in placenta which stop the baby getting what it needs. luckily this can be treated - fingers crossed.

i think you are in the right place to discuss testing, i am sure there is no competition of who has had a worse time getting here so you won't be getting the boot!

have you read lesley regans book - miscarriage; what every woman should know. it's really good and tells you all about the tests and how they can treat problems found. you can pick it up for a few quid on amazon. it's a bit old now (i think it was written in 97) but the advice is still good.

lets hope you get some results and treatment quickly.

farfallarocks · 30/09/2011 10:35

pebspop I am really sorry to hear about your loss at 20 weeks, that must have been unimaginably difficult. So good that they have found a 'problem' though in some ways?

milkyways · 03/10/2011 17:27

Hi everyone, sorry to see some new faces - farfallarocks I hope this thread is as helpful to you as it has been for me. I think there are a few women on this thread who are on the PROMISE trial for progesterone in pregnancy, and so far the results have been very good. Hope everything works out well for you too.

scooterchaser Hope everything is going well with the treatment.

How are you iggi? Hope everything is going well, the hcg doubling is a very good sign.

Iggi999 · 03/10/2011 17:42

Hi Milkyways. How are you now?
I had a scan today, measured just under 6 weeks (4mm) but we did see a heartbeat. I have been having periody-style pains all afternoon, so have convinced myself the ultrasound has done some damage! Hope it fades soon (the pain that is).

milkyways · 03/10/2011 21:09

Congratulations on the good scan iggi! I had period type pains after my internal scans too. It doesn't help that I have a tilted uterus either! Hope everything goes smoothly from here for you.

I've got to 26 weeks now! Things are thankfully seeming better now - I'm still on my low dose aspirin and Vit D, and have switched to pregnacare now. The only problem I am having is not gaining enough weight, but the MW didn't seem too concerned, and it's just given me an excuse to snack on whatever I feel like throughout the day without worrying!

Iggi999 · 03/10/2011 21:59

26 weeks is amazing, good for you!
Must feel "real" now.
