Hi Iggi TEG can be done before pg as well as in a pg state. AFAIK, St Marys is the only place that does it.

pebs you should have had a cycle within 9 weeks. I'd definitely talk to your GP. I'm sure something can be done.

pebspop · 04/09/2011 18:57

thanks girls!
will try to get in to see the gp this week.

i got a bit of tlc last time, i was able to go to epu every two weeks for a scan but didn't realise the benefits of tlc then and stopped going for the extra scans after eight weeks so only had two extra. wish i had kept them up now - not saying it would have changed anything but who knows???

Hi ladies,

I have been directed here for some advice after having my third MC in a row. I was just looking for some advice on potential testing etc. I have had some tests done already after my second MC - karotyping, clotting, thyroid etc which all came back clear - and have been told in no uncertain terms that that is my whack on NHS.

I know there are some further tests - NK cells etc - that I could get privately but I am unsure where to access them as I am based in Central Scotland. I think I would have to travel South for these types of tests so I wonder if anyone has any detail on where/how to contact these clinics and if there are any recommendations anyone is willing to make of a Dr/Clinic who is at least interested. Also, is it horrendously expensive??

My history is: DD aged 4 (easy conception and pregnancy), 1 MC at 11.5 weeks the morning after a perfect scan (needed ERPC), 1 MMC at 10 weeks which had stopped growing at 9 weeks again it seems the day after a perfect scan (needed ERPC) and my most recent MC last week at 6 weeks which seems to be resolving naturally.

I have to admit to being shocked at the total disinterest of my Consultant this time around. No empathy, no sympathy and no advice.

I suppose I am just hoping for some guidance or advice from other ladies who have unfortunately been in similar situations.

Thanks on advance. :-)

freelancegirl · 05/09/2011 18:29

Hi Decaff Sorry for the awful experiences you have had with mcs and also treatment from the NHS. I've said it so many times here but we all have needed to become our own doctors to a certain extent. It makes it very time consuming and you often feel like you are on your own, searching for the next answer. Of course you know all this already but I just though I would empathise. I too have come back clear with all the test I have had with NHS (apart from thyroid which I knew about already) and went on to be tested and diagnosed with very high NK cells with Mr Shehata.

I can't help you with anything in Scotland but I hear Professor Quenby is very good in Liverpool if that helps. I know once people are diagnosed with high NK cells treatment seems to work for a lot of them. Unfortunately for me I have just had another mc on the treatment but will be trying again soon. It's a controversial form of treatment as you know and not everyone believes in it! But for many of us it has been worth a go after all other avenues didn't lead anywhere.

Do ask away with any other questions and we will see if we can answer them! I assume you've read Dr Beer's Is Your Body Baby Friendly? It not, that's the first step! xx

Iggi999 · 05/09/2011 18:34

Hi Decaff. Sorry you find yourself in this club Sad
A number of people on MINUTE have paid privately to see Lesley Reagan, a similar number to see Hassan Shehata. I've also heard of folk seeing others in London (can't remember names) and Siobhan Quenby who is in the midlands I think. We have a similar history - I have a 4 year old, then 4 mc. I have been to see S, and am on his treatment programme for NK cells - no baby yet though! I too live in Scotland, it has involved 2 visits for me to get tests and results, the train is good but adds another 80-100 onto each trip, more if you stay overnight. Hth - feel free to ask me more.

pebspop · 06/09/2011 12:28

decaff welcome to the club. sorry you have to join us.

i am just waiting for nhs test results so can't really help with your questions but will be around to chat etc.

iggi what is MINUTE?

pebspop · 06/09/2011 19:20

i have got a docs appointment on monday to find out what i can do about my missing periods. it will be 10 weeks by then since mc.

hope they can do something for me.

milkyways · 07/09/2011 18:02

Hi all, just checking in to see how you are all doing.

I feel much better than I was a few weeks ago. I guess that feeling of guilt will never go away, but am feeling much happier than I was.

iggi Hope you're doing well. Will you be trying again soon? Good luck with everything.

freelance Good luck with your appointment with Dr S tomorrow. Hopefully you'll get a new plan of action of what to do next. Really rooting for you.

at everyone! Wishing you all well.

pebspop · 09/09/2011 10:56

hi everyone

i have been looking on the internet and think the doctor will give me provera tablets for my missing af - anyone had them before?

the side effects sound a bit a nightmare (bad pmt, cramps etc) but hopefully it will reset my cycles. they were regular when i cam off the pill last year but i have only had one af since last august to due to two pregnancies and mc's.

Iggi999 · 09/09/2011 13:55

Hi Milkyways, glad you are feeling a bit better. I think it's normal to feel guilt, as long as your head is also aware you have nothing to feel guilty about. We are on our 2nd month of trying again, in 2ww at the mo.
Pebs I'm glad there is something you can take, it does sound dramatic but maybe you would not have any side effects?

pebspop · 09/09/2011 14:15

i am not really one for getting side effects so i would hope i am ok. just thought i would mention it if anyone else if reading!

i am hoping that the gp will give me the tablets and that they reset my cycle so i am back to normal.

i have been charting for the last couple of weeks but not noticed any temperature changes yet. didn't do it this morning as i am full of a cold and couldn't be bothered! will keep it up though as i would be interesting to see the temp shift after ov.

pebspop · 10/09/2011 19:57

got a letter today for my first consultants appointment to dicuss test results. it's on 27th sep.

does anyone have any advice for me on what to ask etc. i have had all the usual tests that are done on nhs including postmortem on the baby, karyotyping on me and dh, infections, blood clotting etc.

hoping to learn from all the experience on this thread to get the most out of the appointment.

will ask the graduates for advice as well.

pebspop · 12/09/2011 19:21

went to gp and they told me to wait for af. they said come back in three months if nothing happens.

he said maybe it;'s my bodies way of giving me a break and if i forget about it, it will come back wtf?

bloody men!

i have got my consultant appointment in two weeks so will mention it to them and see what they say.

i don't really want the hormone tablets to start af, i would rather it came on it's own. i have been temping and the chart said i might have ov'd over the weekend so if my temps stay up af may be on her way - fingers crossed!

LAF77 · 12/09/2011 21:55

Hi pebs that sounds like terrible advice, to go 5 months without a period! Hopefully, you have ovulated and AF will come, but I'm flabbergasted by your doctor's advice.

With respect to your consultant appointment, I'd make a note of the dates of all of your miscarriages, and how many weeks you were. I'd also make a note of your cycles and their lengths. Sometimes you get asked these questions and it is good to have the information at your fingertips.

For me, I would also think about the outcome that you want. If they tell you that they haven't found anything in your results, you should push for a referral to a specialist RMC consultant. I'd push for a referral to a specialist even if they do find something. Try to think about who you would want to see, if Liverpool is the best place for you, then ask to be referred there.

You don't want to leave the room without a plan of action for next steps so you don't have to then wait a month for another appointment. You have to manage your own care, unfortunately.

Just to let you all know, I am 12+5 today, I can scarcely believe it myself. I had my dating scan on Friday and baby seems to be OK, the nuchal measurement was 1.3mm, so that is looking good. I had my booking in appointment with the midwife today too.

Over a year ago, I had my second miscarriage, and things were looking bleak. Don't give up hope, keep fighting to get the best care that you can.

The list hasn't been updated for awhile, so I will do it. I've taken the liberty of putting myself in the pg section and confirming that hairy milky and lucky are pg as they are all past 20 weeks and glittery gave birth a few weeks ago.

thanks LAF. i will make sure i get a plan of action. i was speaking to dh and we have already said we will get a refferal is they don't come back with any results. i would love to go to st marys but will try liverpool first as it will be so much easier for us to get to.

i want them to give me a scan as well as a nurse at epu told me i might have a bicornuate womb. not sure if i do or not but i want a proper diagnosis.

i will see what they think about my missing period. i agree that 5 months if far too long to wait.

i realised that my raised temps over the weekend may have been down to drinking too much alcohol rather than ov. my temp came back down today.

Hello just popping by to see how everyone is. Would you believe I'm 22 weeks pregnant. Just wanted to give back some hope after all the hope I found here. Nit out ofthe woods if course but all is, so far, well :)

Iggi999 · 17/09/2011 11:11

Hi Hairylights, that's great news, I'm so pleased for you. :).
Obviously you'll never relax completely after what you've been through, but you've got so far down the road now!
I got a bfp yesterday, quietly freaking out already.

milkyways · 18/09/2011 14:51

iggi A tentative congratulations from me. I really do hope that everything works out fine this time. Will you be opting for weekly scans for reassurance?

I've reached 24 weeks today - my final milestone I suppose. Feels a bit surreal, and I still don't feel attached enough to imagine holding a baby at the end but anything is possible and each day that passes gives me more hope.

Iggi999 · 18/09/2011 15:30

Thanks Milkyways (and a success story is what I need to hear just now!). Hate being back on this road again, but then again I'd be unhappy if I got a bfn and was planning ahead for next month already.. Never mind weekly scans, I'd be happiest if they could put me to sleep and wake me up when it's over, hopefully in 9 months time!

Congratulations Iggi when you are feeling brave enough, feel free to join us us on the freak out thread on the conception page where you will get lots of support xx

Thank you Laf. I am currently lying on my bed convinced the odd feelings in my tummy is another mc and I am only 4 bloody weeks today, it would be better just to get it over with now than endure any more of this.

LAF77 · 19/09/2011 20:09

Big hug iggi the first three months are dreadful, every minute and every hour is filled with worry. However, it isn't uncommon to have cramps in early pg. Did you start with pred from ovulation? xx

iggi, like LAF said, cramps in early pregnancy can just be the uterus stretching. Are you still on Dr S's plan? I really do have my fingers crossed for you. x

Iggi999 · 19/09/2011 22:47

Thanks guys, I appreciate your messages. Have been doing things like searching for car insurance tonight, anything to occupy my brain! Yes, I've been on the steroids since ovulation this time.
You'd think I'd be used to this period of waiting/hoping/despairing by now, having been through it so often. If this doesn't work I really don't think I can keep going at ttc, it just poisons the rest of my life. But, I do know from this thread that it can work, maybe even for me! Smile

milkyways · 20/09/2011 12:12

I think it doesn't matter how many times you go through it - it's always just as hard. I remember the blissful ignorance I had when I was pregnant with DD - didn't even have a 12 week scan as I thought it wasn't important!

Have you thought about counselling? I know it's not for everyone, but for me it's helped get things into perspective about my life. I think I would have spiralled into depression if I hadn't opened up and talked to someone about my mc's.

I think keeping your mind occupied with other things is a good idea. As long as you have more than 3 years on your "no claims" I am sure looking for insurance will be ok!
