Who knew your fanny shrivelled up and ran away when you hit mid 50s!?!

I certainly didn’t and I miss it! The only part of my body to become skinny and Im absolutely pissed off. Why did no one tell me about this?? And now I feel I can’t tell anyone else in case it’s just me.

Topical hrt will plump things up.

shellyleppard · Yesterday 19:26

@shrumps its not just you. Mine disappeared in menopause and I'm still looking for it 🤣 next time round I'm coming back as a man or a well pampered cat 😺

Head to the GP and get some vaginal oestrogen. I went with the vagirux tablets as they’re less messy than a gel or cream. Game changer!

Meceme · Yesterday 19:27

Ask your doctor for topical oestrogen cream. Use both externally and internally - game changer. ( Also helps avoid uti's)

Elieza · Yesterday 19:39

yup they dont tell you youre in danger of losing the sponge up there when washing as it’s become a giant cavern……

shrumps · Yesterday 19:39

I love that you’ve give me hope!!! Really? I’m not doomed?

Ummm, what?!?!? I’m 42, women in family never spoke about menopause. So… what?!?! 😱

Im not there yet and reading this thread with much confusion.
How can a vagina get skinny?
Do you mean vagina or vulva ?
Does it get skinny or cavernous?

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · Yesterday 19:55

I'm pleased tbh. Always thought mine was a bit chubby !

WearyAuldWumman · Yesterday 19:57

It used to be nearly impossible to get decent HRT.

I'm now having a combination of

Mirena Coil (for progesterone)
Elleste Solo 1mg - oestrogene
Vagirux - localised oestrogen

I was prescribed the last by the practice nurse in order to help with discomfort and it has made a difference. I was getting what seemed to be UTI after UTI.

Also...apparently localised oestrogen helps prevent prolapses? I only got the localised stuff this year and I'm 66.

I first read about the dreaded vaginal atrophy online. Anything that helps to prevent discomfort and prolapses has to be good.

Morechocmorechoc · Yesterday 19:57

Curious here as well!

Txutxioyigx · Yesterday 19:58

My boobs shrivelled away but I’ve been using the gel and now resemble Pamela Anderson

Fernsarethebestplants · Yesterday 19:59

If you search for threads on this, there's some great advice on how to deal with vaginal atrophy, you can use topical oestrogen but some people can't or don't want to, and it was suggested on here to use coconut oil and it works very well. You can also do kegal exercises that build the muscles, which also helps it come back to life, so to speak. It turns out even your vag needs exercising and moisturising when you get older.

If I understand correctly, both are involved - the actual tissue becomes more fragile and prone to damage. It's one of the reasons that a smear can become more painful as you're older.

I'm hoping that a HCP might see this thread and give a better explanation.

ItsABatFaceThing · Yesterday 20:03

I knew. And I thank god I did. I just use topical oestrogen cream every other day, in and around your hoop and guess what? Pretty much no difference to how it was decades ago tbh

but you must do it! Get the cream now. Do not wait until it comes for you! Trust me on this

lambfillet · Yesterday 20:03

There are female doctors out there now referring to topical estrogen cream as “sepsis prevention cream.” So in addition to plumping up your nether parts, it helps ward off the UTIs that often accompany menopause.

ClawsandEffect · Yesterday 20:05

Your labia minora reabsorb back into your body. Bye bye mini flaps.

ItsABatFaceThing · Yesterday 20:05

There re many many older women out there who are suffering. ANd no, your fannydoesn’t just go all svelte.. you will be plagued by UTIs, thinning tissue, thrush type symptoms and. A general feeling of permanent discomfort

For me my padding in my clitoris vanished over night and out flipped from being an infinite source of pleasure to feeling like a searing electric shock at the slightest pressure. The skin became very thin and tore easily too. Walking could be painful. I was 43 and it was a horrific shock. Got the internal tampers and the cream and full on hrt and it’s helped. It’s plumper and better than it was not it’s never going to be the same again and sex /forplay has very much had to change.

TinDogTavern · Yesterday 20:10

These threads never disappoint. I love a good minge whinge.

Anyway, you think you’ve got problems, I had one flap off (long story) this summer so mine looks like Picasso drew it.

I only found out after painful sex and a number of back to back UTI. I would suggest all women are aware from 40 plus
