Onion armpits and Fussy deodorant

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 28/06/2026 00:03

I am 51 and for the last few years find that in the hot weather I am getting the armpits that smell like onions.
I have heard Fussy deodorant is good for this as it has ingredients that counteract the bacteria that causes the smell.
Have people found it good? Seems expensive.

It's only in the summer when it's really hot. Normal deodorant works fine the rest of the time.

Thanks

I don’t really rate Fussy or Wild, have tried both and they aren’t super effective. What works for me SO well is AKT deodorant. I’ll never use anything else again. I’ve literally not smelled of BO at all since I started using it. Great stuff! A little pricey but lasts for ages. Get the metal key thing so you can roll your tube nearly as you use it.

I tried Fussy a while back but it seemed to make things worse. I didn’t have oniony smells, was just a bit more BO type smell than usual, it was odd as I’ve never really been sweaty or smelly but put it down to menopause. Now I use Sanex , the pale blue one and it works well. There was this thread last year about ‘smelling funny’ Persimmon soap might help you, a lot of people tried it. Near the end someone mentions curry smelling armpits. Might be worth a read,

Does anyone else “smell” … funny?😳 | Mumsnet

When I was a kid, the loo always smelled “funny” after my DMum had used it. Fast forward 40 years, now I’m smelling that smell when I use the loo (...

Second recommendation for AKT! I am a sweater and even with strong antiperspirant would be stinky by the afternoon on a hot day. Tried various ‘natural’ ones including wild and was even worse. With AKT I don’t smell at all. I know a lot of people using it now.

I much prefer Nuud. Its a cream and kills the bacteria. Once established you only need to apply it every 2-3 days or so. Some folk get longer in between. I was really surprised that it actually works . 53 yr old female here.

Pitrok is also excellent but its a daily application. Its a crystal you apply to freshly washed, still wet pits.

Not a deodorant recommendation but what made a real difference to me is washing armpits with dettol soap. I will have a normal shower and then use the dettol under arms, massively reduces BO smell during the day.

I use Act as well, and so does teenage daughter. It works really well. I didn’t like Fussy or Wild.

Fussy is really wierd. It's like some kind of dry prittstick you are meant to roll over the delicate underarm skin.

My fragile pitts require better. I swear by Dr Organic Tea Tree from Holland and Barrett. Its nice roller and feels super minty fresh. Used it for years.

I used to have bo that regular deodorant couldn’t shift. Triple dry works for me.

I'm not particularly sweaty, it's just that it smells oniony,. I live in Spain so don't have all the same brands available. There's a Spanish brand of stick deodorant called Tulipán and the original (no aluminium salts) one has quite a fresh soapy smell. That seems to work to an extent.
Now in the summer I find even if I shower before bed when I wake up (even sleeping with aircon so not sweating particularly) I smell of onions.
I will have a look at persimmon soap. DH uses aleppo soap for psoarisis, is that good too?

Pitrok is very efficient and gentle. It also last a long time. Unless you drop it in the sink and bits get chipped off.

My pits only smell oniony if I have eaten something with onions in it.

I do know what a PP said about fusty smelling wees. I think it is a meno thing. Maybe hormones. As long as you drink enough water I wouldn't be worried about it.

Yeah it's definitely a perimenopause thing. Annoyingly I still get my period every single fucking month, closer together now than before too. So don't even have the advantage of fewer periods. I have also noticed the fusty wee smell.
I'm not worried, just would rather not smell of onion BO hahaha.

Pitrok doesn't seem to be available in Spain but the holland and barrett one is on Spanish amazon.

Vichy roll on. I use the unscented one, I hate anything with a scent. It’s the one with a white lid. It works very well and lasts a while. Always make sure armpits are completely dry before you dress.
