When or how did your periods stop?

I’m 51 and up to this point I’ve mostly had regular periods. Occasionally in the last 3 or 4 years, one would be late by about a week or 10 days but otherwise, regular as clockwork. I’ve not had any real perimenopause symptoms other than waking up hot and sweaty from time to time but then I just realised today (from looking at my tracking app), I’ve not had a period for 60 days (2 whole months!). I’m quite excited by this and hoping it’ll continue as I’m so ready for them to be over.

Curious as to when and how other women’s periods stopped or slowed down?

I think it’s really random. Mine stopped suddenly aged 40 when I was going through a stressful period in life and they never came back!

Heatedrival · 04/02/2026 21:35

Mine just stopped for about 4 months then I got a small one and then they just completely stopped. I haven’t had a period in 5 years and no real menopause symptoms apart from having to be careful in the summer when it’s hot. I tend to dress very light, take a hand fan with me and if it’s scorching a damp cooling towel. In the winter I’m fine.

Mothertodogsnow · 04/02/2026 21:40

My last one was 55. Went heavier then lighter. Last one was nothing more than a show.Always regular to a few days either way. I didn’t recognise the peri signs but they weren’t talked about then. Looking back I had random days of severe depression then next day I’d be fine. Wierd!

skippy67 · 04/02/2026 21:43

Mine stopped when I was 53. Literally just stopped.

Iwanttogobacktobed · 04/02/2026 21:45

Mine stopped when I had a coil for hrt, but hated it and had it removed a few months later. Period has never returned. I was 51

aintnospringchicken · 04/02/2026 22:04

I had my last period,if you can call it that( very light and lasted 1 day) when I was 48.My penultimate period was 9 months before that. They has been getting lighter and further apart for a few months.

Notsosweetcaroline · 04/02/2026 22:12

I had a really terrible one, proper flooding, aged 50, I woke up and it was like I’d haemorrhaged, before that I had a couple of a little late but nothing unusual. I then didn’t have one for a year. Went away with my daughter, shared a hotel room, she was having her period and I had another period, and then that was it. That was 3 years ago and never had another one.

Translatethedog · 04/02/2026 22:15

At 46 they stopped for 10 months (got it checked out), then a small short one, then nothing for about two months, then another short barely there one and now nothing for almost a year.

2old4thispoo · 04/02/2026 22:17

I was 42.
I always had very regular periods. I had 2 weirdly light periods in the February and March. Then nothing for 5 months. Then my last period in the August. Never had another period. I was gutted as I was TTC.

Gingercar · 04/02/2026 22:17

I’d had ridiculously short but very heavy periods for about three years before they stopped. Still regular as clockwork but gushing now and again, Then when I was about 54 they stopped completely. A year later I had one final period. The heaviest ever, literally flooding, and ultra embarrassing as I was staying at someone’s house and had no sanitary products (nor did she had already gone through menopause). But that was three years ago and I’ve had no problems since. I’ve lost practically all of the anxiety/temper I had in peri menopause. I just wake up boiling hot at night regularly (thankfully not sweating).

Beautifulsunflowers · 04/02/2026 22:17

Never really knew because I was on the progesterone only pill and took it continuously from age 40 to 45 and didn’t have a period when I came off the pill.

SpringTimeIsRingTime · 04/02/2026 22:19

Mine stopped when I was 53 - no warning - just never came back.

nevertoolater · 05/02/2026 10:04

I woke up today and period was due - I had some telltale twinges but so far nothing! I’m hoping it will stay that way.

mine are stopping
from regular as clockwork to one every three months now
can’t wait for them to finish
am 50

Funnywonder · 05/02/2026 10:13

Mine started to bunch up close together when I was 46, until my cycles were only about 17 or 18 days. I did have this checked out and everything was fine medically, even though I was bloody fed up and permanently exhausted. After a couple of years they became more recognisable as the periods I always had. Then, at 51, they just stopped abruptly. The end. Yay!

Strollingby · 05/02/2026 10:13

At around 46 mine started getting lighter, shorter, and further apart. Final one started the day after I was 50, lasted a couple of days and that was it.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 05/02/2026 10:14

I'm 47 and in the last two years mine have become erratic. I skipped 2 periods early on in that time frame and then they returned for 6 months. Since then they've become erratic again so I can get them monthly or they disappear for a month or two. They are either very light or heavier than normal for me. I'm actually due now but no signs as yet.

SilverPink · 05/02/2026 10:22

Following with interest, 51, still regular as clockwork and very heavy for a couple of days. Wake up with hot flushes at night but no other major symptoms. I know my mum was early 50s so I guess I’m following in her footsteps.

PithyViewer · 05/02/2026 10:47

Mine became progressively more erratic, starting around age 44. I'm 51 now. For the last 2-3 years I've had gaps of 3-4 months between them. I've just had a six-month gap and thought I was done, but then I had one. So who knows what the next few months will bring, but given that I've been having long gaps for a few years and the last gap was six months, it surely can't be long now till I'm done.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 09/02/2026 07:19

I’ve had very regular 4 weekly super heavy periods for years, November’s lasted for 2 weeks, then December was just 2 days of spotting, and nothing at all since. Am assuming I’m in the latter stages of peri and careering very quickly towards menopause - I’ve just turned 48. Had my hormones checked recently expecting them to indicate this - but they were alarmingly normal across the board 🤷‍♀️

Still getting godawful period pains though - I thought I’d be spared this once they stopped.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 09/02/2026 11:22

I'm on now and have to say this one and my previous period have been heavier and more painful than I've experienced in many years.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/02/2026 12:00

I had my second (last) baby a few weeks before my 41st birthday. My periods came back about 4 months later and were light. They got lighter, and lighter, and lighter until they phased out entirely at 52. They always remained regular though.

nevertoolater · 09/02/2026 13:26

Well it’s day 68 today and still no sign of one. Was just chatting to a friend who told me she went 69 days and then they came back. I know everyone’s trip through this is different but I’m glad at least that things appear to be slowing down a bit.

I’ve switched to continuous HRT and they’ve stopped. Only been a few months though. Was very hit and miss on sequential regime prior to this could go months without. 54.

MarlaisDay · 09/02/2026 15:38

I turned 54 in January and had one in November- they are now every 2/3 months and have been for a couple of years.
I was doing a happy dance in 2024 because I thought they'd stopped- went January to July without one- was gutted. They started when I was just turned 11 so I'm well over it all now.
