When or how did your periods stop?

I’m 51 and up to this point I’ve mostly had regular periods. Occasionally in the last 3 or 4 years, one would be late by about a week or 10 days but otherwise, regular as clockwork. I’ve not had any real perimenopause symptoms other than waking up hot and sweaty from time to time but then I just realised today (from looking at my tracking app), I’ve not had a period for 60 days (2 whole months!). I’m quite excited by this and hoping it’ll continue as I’m so ready for them to be over.

Curious as to when and how other women’s periods stopped or slowed down?

I was 56 and they just stopped. I had the occasional hot flush, but that was about it.

crackofdoom · 09/02/2026 15:53

I'm nearly 52, and last year I had periods in January, February and August. I hoped that might be it, but I had a very light one a couple of weeks ago. Maybe THAT was it, who knows!

VictoriousPunge · 09/02/2026 15:57

Regular as clockwork until I was 53 ish, then I had one every three weeks for a while. Then they started spacing to about one every three months. Last one I had was in August last year. Like you I'm hoping this is it! I'm 55 in April.

Cheese55 · 09/02/2026 15:59

Mine stopped at 52. Just like that.

TimeForATerf · 09/02/2026 16:01

Got heavier and closer together and more painful from 45 onwards then at 52 they just stopped. I had a couple about six months apart but that was it then.

the flooding in the years leading up to it were awful but I escaped other things like hot flushes relatively lightly.

Anonanonanonagain · 09/02/2026 16:32

I had very light 35 day cycle then went on the pill for a couple of years, came off the pill and had one very lght period and nothing since. That was when I was 46.

catin8oot5 · 09/02/2026 18:27

Mine stopped suddenly at 43. Nearly 3 years ago. No menopause no symptoms apart from heavy but sporadic bleeding for a couple of years before.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/02/2026 18:32

Mine got really heavy with cramps and flooding that took my breath away in the last year of having them. Then they stopped. I had one a few months later, out of nowhere (this was September 2022 (I was 58!) and then that was me done.

HeartyBlueRobin · 09/02/2026 18:33

I never had a regular cycle. It was a nightmare trying to conceive when my shortest cycle was just 17 days and the longest 48 days. In the run up to menopause I went from very light periods to heavier but no flooding and I had to take medication twice to stop them. My last period at 50 was on the day I received my father's terminal diagnosis. I initially wondered if it was stress and they'd return but they never did.

bugalugs45 · 09/02/2026 18:36

mine stopped suddenly at 46 last year, 6 months and counting ! Went 2 months without earlier that year , then a couple of 20 day cycles , but regular up until that point .

EBearhug · 09/02/2026 18:38

Mine became irregular at 49. I'm now 53, and hadn't bled for 9 months until I had a light period about 3 weeks ago. So 68 days is no guarantee it was the last.

You're not officially at menopause until it's a year since you last bled, so you've got almost another 300 days to go. I've known more than one woman who has had a period after 11 months without.

I'm on now and have to say this one and my previous period have been heavier and more painful than I've experienced in many years.

Me too! I thought I had DS's virus coming as I was hot and cold and achey last week, then yesterday it started and today I'm literally flooding and the pain is off the scale. Didn't sleep last night at all, just lay there sweating which I never get usually. My last period was 3 weeks ago and before that I was having lighter ones, then missed one altogether so hoped that was it but no, here we go again! My work is going to force me to go to the doctors but I told them I have tried HRT and the coil and they didn't work. I find this the hardest thing, dealing with my scary manager! I'm 54 and I wish they would just fuck off, the periods that is! I feel very jealous of those who say theirs just stopped one day and never returned!

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 10/02/2026 05:59

Mine are stopping due to HRT tweaking.

FIFIBEBE · 10/02/2026 06:14

In my early 50s, gaps between periods became longer and flow much lighter. This lasted for a couple of years. Began having COVID jabs and this seemed to bring the light periods back which was irritating. A further three years of very light and irregular periods followed . I’m about nine months period free now at 58 and have zero menopause symptoms. I feel like the price I’ve paid for being virtually symptom free is the many, many mini periods.

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/02/2026 06:33

I’m 52, went for 6 months without a period & then had one in December. I’m really hoping that’s it.

LesserSootyOwl · 10/02/2026 06:38

I was 50 when I first missed a period, but I had one the following month. That was over a year ago and since then it's unpredictable- some months I have one, some I don't. Currently haven't had one since November.

MissMogwai · 10/02/2026 06:47

I’ve had the coil since October as part of my HRT plan and hadn’t had a period since December so thought it had kicked in (thank god, because my periods were super heavy for years) but lo and behold I’ve come on this morning!
I can’t wait for them to bugger off completely.
I remember in the olden days when I couldn’t wait to get my period and be all grown up and now at 46 I’m so jealous of my friends whose periods have stopped! 🤣

Miloarmadillo2 · 10/02/2026 07:29

51, still going… I’ve changed to continuous progesterone as part of HRT which doctor said would stop them…. nope.

I'm not surprised as HRT did nothing for me. Didn't help with any of my symptoms. The coil is next but I don't know whether to bother as I'm hoping more than anything that this latest period is the last. Working with this shit hanging over me is depressing as all I need to do is just wait it out, stay inside and dose myself up, but all work want to do is help me (which is bollocks cos as soon as HR get involved it's all downhill) Just can't stop crying 😢... sorry!
